One thing's for sure, this game wouldn't have been as half as enjoyable if I hadn't played the previous versions of Monkey Island because of the inside jokes and re-encountering old characters.
It has very funny parts (I mean, really laughing out loud parts), but the game is not an improvement from what was Curse of Monkey Island. I remember enjoying 'Curse' a whole lot more--not to mention Grim Fandango (the best adventure game i have ever played, by the way from LucasArts too and in 3-D). If you've played Grim Fandango you'll have no problem with character movement. I don't know why people can't figure it out so easily.
Technologically, I did have a few problems with the game. It froze once, but I had it saved so no prob. What really got on my nerves was the memory recovery for H.T. part (you'll know when you get there) which didn't work even though I had done every necessary steps. I had to redo all over that part of the game and surprisingly it worked then. **Advice: keep a bunch of saved games cause it does have it's glitches.**
I should've waited 'til this one was in the 'Outlet'. I think it's the last time before I buy a no-review new release just based on the series reputation.
Good game, crashes too often

I enjoyed "The Curse of Monkey Island", so I was anxious to try Escape. The interface is not as easy to use as the last game, and traveling from one site to another takes more time than it should. I believe there are fewer puzzles than in curse. Also this game does crash often, so save early and save often. Fun, but the 3D is a waste as it causes the crashes and adds nothing. Just not as much fun as curse.

While I was a relative newbie to the Monkey Island series (I had only played the 'Curse' demo and a little bit of 'Secret'), I found Escape from Monkey Island to be very enjoyable. I was able to run the game on a generic 3d card with minimal trouble(the only glitch I encountered was being unable to see which action I had selected from the list without hitting 'enter'). Otherwise, the game runs in beautiful 3d graphics, with fluid animation. The keyboard controls are a little strange at first, and a mouse option would have been nice.
The game is filled with memorable humor, as many characters return from previous Monkey games(such as Murray the evil skull) and new, equally funny ones(such as Marco de Pollo) are introduced. The game is filled with in-jokes, however, and you may want to save this one until you've played at least Secret of Monkey Island(which seemed to contain the source of many). The humor is clean, so you won't have to worry if you let your kids play. The puzzles are cleverly made(although some can be slightly obscure; Lucre Island comes to mind), and shouldn't be too much of a problem for anyone. The gameplay is varied by the use of minigames, such as Insult Arm Wrestling, and Monkey Kombat. Strangely, LucasArts ships a small walkthrough booklet in each box, which can be often too tempting after racking your brain on a puzzle for an hour.
If you want a mind-testing, humorous game you can play in your spare time, you may want to give EFMI a serious look.
One of the best (only) adventure games of the year!

Okay, so, when I saw the first screenshots I was doubtful. How could Lucasarts possibly hope to better Curse Of Monkey Island using their GRIME 3d game engine? Wasn't the art and animation in CMI some of the best adventure game artwork out there? 3D is all... blocky. Unfriendly. But somehow, they did it. Escape from Monkey Island is every bit as good as, if not better than CMI. The best part is the return of Dominic Armato as the voice of Guybrush Threepwood. As always, he plays the perfect Guybrush. My only complaint about the game was the occasional bug, but most of these could be fixed by a simple enough workaround. I highly recommend this game if you liked the previous Monkey Island games. You won't be disappointed.

As a long time player of Lucas Arts Monkey Island games, I'm not disappointed with this one. The in-jokes are excellent.
My only beef with the game is the lack of click and go playability that was so easy and straight-forward with the previous three games. Playing using only the keyboard made things a little fiddly.
Other than that small issue, the graphics were excellent, the puzzles kept me busy for ages, and the reintroduction of some old and familiar characters, definitely enjoyable
Keeps up Monkey Island tradition

While Escape from Monkey Island does a good job of remaining true to the originals it has a few problems that take away from it. The music, characters, humor and story are all great but the graphics suffer a little in the transition to 3D. There are also control problems that can get very annoying. Most of the puzzles are clever but some of them require a LOT of trial and error and are illogical even for a Monkey Island game. Overall I have enjoyed the game once I could get past the drawbacks.

Since I was about 8 years old I have been playing Monkey Island 1 and 2 whenever I get spare time. I could just about do it with my eyes closed. Although I have been a fan of the Monkey Island series since the release of The Curse of Monkey Island on the Amiga 500, I still don't own a copy of Monkey Island 3. I got a demo of MI3 and wasn't at all impressed at first with the game, I felt it had became more childish and wasn't what I expected after playing MI1 and 2 constantly. But later on I actually played the demo, ignoring the cartoon style 2d grqphics, and a Guybrush Threepwood which looks more like that guy from Only Fools and Horses then Guybrush from MI1 and 2, point being is, funny enough, after playing it for a while I got really stuck into it, only to find in Australia you can no longer get Monkey 3 in stores nor on Amazon as it doesn't ship that item there, but all the same, with the release of Monkey Island 4 I was the first person in the store to purchase it, and It really is a excelant game.
An excellant addition to the Monkey Island Series!

I am a big fan of all the Monkey Island adventure games and have played all four of them more than once. In my opinion, Escape From Monkey Island is the best of the four. What impressed me the most was the cinematic movies. I thoroughly enjoyed watching each movie as the adventure progressed. Second, I was glad to see the return of characters from previous adventures. There is nothing more fun, more entertaining, and more humorous than reminiscing with old friends and sharing new experiences. Finally, I enjoyed the graphics and scenery. All the locations were exceptionally drawn and it was great fun exploring the remodled islands from previous adventures and the new islands from this adventure. For these reasons and many more, I strongly recommend playing Escape From Monkey Island. Also, I recommend the other Monkey Island Adventures since some jokes and elements in the Escape From Monkey Island story are better understood after completing the first three games. I believe that there are too few adventure games that possess the same great qualities shown throughout the Monkey Island Series and that Escape From Monkey Island is one big step towards preserving the legacy of adventure games.
A new look is still fun on Monkey Island

I am a huge fan of the Monkey Island series, from the basic graphics of the first game to the fully 3D system that enables Escape from Monkey Island. More than a standard action puzzle game, Monkey Island glows with a keen sense of humor and a nefarious mind for tricky combinations.
Your hero, Guybrush Threepwood, is back again - this time as a married pirate with a governer-wife. You roam around the islands, finding yourself a pirate crew, fighting duels and figuring out the various riddles that challenge you. The dialogue is great. They throw in references to everything under the sun, from 'Zillionaire, Mansion and a Yacht' jokes about Bugs Bunny to sly comments about the OJ Simpson trial. There's something for every age group in here.
I was very disappointed that they included a walkthrough *with* the software - I'm quite sure that many, many people will use the walkthrough without trying to figure out the puzzles on their own. Yes, they can be tricky sometimes, but the whole point of the game is to get that "Aha!!" moment when you get the right combination to work. Using the walkthrough skips tons of fun dialogue and results that only occur when you trial-and-error your way through. throughout.
Other downsides include its tendency to crash (save OFTEN) and the confusing controls for movement. The graphics are great, though, and there is no way I could resist a game this witty. Be sure to grab yourself a copy!

I have bought and played all the Monkey Island games before this, so I was excited to buy the newest fourth edition in the series. To my great disappointment though, they have changed too much. The graphics were great, but did they really need to make it in 3D format. Maybe I got a bugged disk but when I would use the pg Up buttom (or down) it wouldn't highlight the sentence I wanted to pick. Also, since you are not able to use a mouse, it takes him FOREVER to get anywhere. You need to walk in just the right space to get sentences to choose from...the list goes on and on. I am taking this back to the computer store tomorrow. Why couldn't they just make it mouse compatible. I would of really enjoyed the game!
