I'm an avid AOK:Conquerers player and I NEVER thought I would find a game that would blow it away. I've found it!!! The graphics are stuning. The detail in the buildings is extreme. The trees really look like trees. The peasants and military units perform their tasks with an almost lifelike grace.
Rifles, cannons mortars etc. all have different sounds and all produce puffs of smoke when they fire. The artillary bombardments are spectacular; actual explosions and clouds of smoke and flying debris when they hit a target.
The ships are very lifelike, especially in their movements.
Forget the 200 maximum on units... I just finished my first run thru on this game and had a maximum population limit of 1000 and could have gone higher. There are also LOADs of unit upgrades.
On a scale of 10 I rate this one a definate 12!!

What can i say, The gamepay is exellent, the grafics are exellent, there is nothing i can find whitch is wrong with this game. These are the points i can think of that make this the greatest strategy game of all time...
1. The enemy attacks you in formation (not scattering its units like in age of empires or red alert).
2.it features loads of countries.
3.it is 100% historicaly accurate. the units themselves, tecnologies, formation of units,
4.in this game the population limit is 8000 (not 50, or 100 like in red alert or age of empires) + the computer does not crash even if you have 8000 units in play.
5. the grafics are brilliant, great attension has been given to the detail of the units. units are in proportion, they act so realiticaly, and are so finly detailed, that its almost as if in real life.
6. it has loads of units and upgrades, more than any other game ive seen n my life. every type of infantry or cavalry that ever existed in that time.
7. Every country has its oun type of buildings and units (unlike all other sutch games)
after playing the demo, and then getting the full game, i must say, this the only game i have not gotten bored of. for more info on the game, go to: www.cossacks.com

I like RTS games, but all of have their own disadvantages. When I first played Cossacks, I was waiting to face a new one, but the only thing I found was advantages. The game is better than Age of Empires 2 and the magnitude of choices is unbelievable. The computer is clever and unpredictable and this makes the game very interesting. (If you play the game in the "Very-Hard" Mode, your possibilities to win are limited.) If you like RTS games, this is your next game.
Cossacks is actually one of the best RTS-Games

If you're a RTS-Fan, Cossacks: European Wars is a must for you... I've been really suprised as I played it for the first time a few days ago. The Graphics are the best I've ever seen in a 2D RTS Game, there are even much more better than those in Age Of Empires 2. The Game balance's nearly perfect.
The most interesting thing about Cossacks, is that it's the first game ever with a realistic number of combat units, indeed you can handle more than 8000 Units... Isn't that fantastic?
In a word, Cossacks' a game which provides you a high gaming pleasure and a long time motivation...
A Must Get.

I must admit, the demo is impressive. First, I recommend you get the demo, it's at ... , just copy and paste the address. Be sure to get the version 1.02, because you don't need the current patch. I'd start the download in the morning, and leave your computer on through the day, because the demo takes a lot of time, but trust me, it's worth it.
Ok, now about the game. If you play any Age of Empire game or demo, you'll have no trouble with the controlls. The game spans the 16th-18th centurys (1600s-1800s) and looks historicly accurate. In the demo you only get a random map with Spain, but it's real fun. In the demo you start out in the 17h century and are able to progress to the 18th, but you must have several buildings and 12500 gold, 500 iron, and 20000 food (I'm not sure about them, but it's close.)In the 17th century don't waste time and resources on Musketters, but on Pikemen. There attack and defense and be upgraded six times each, and you'll need to. But when you get to the 18th work with Musketeers from the Barracks Two and from the Academy have the Muskteers cost half as much. Oh, yes, set it on easy mode, I can't even beat it yet.
MUCH BETTER THAN AGE OF EMPIRES 2

I bought this game after a friend recommended it to me, claiming it is, "What Age of Empires 2 should have been. I gave it five stars, even though there are several cons about it.
As for the pros, there is everything printed on the back of the box, such as 8,000 units on a single battlefield, which you are probably familiar with from the other reviews. I personally think that the campaigns on Cossacks are much better than the AOK campaigns; there are more realistic, more difficult, and last for a very long time. The artificial intelligence is great. The computer players actually have some strategy, and you, the human player, can't just march up to the enemy and conquer them as in AOK, but has to have some strategy. It is much more realistic than AOK. People actually eat, for one thing.
One con is that people don't follow orders very well. You order them to attack one unit, and they attack another unit in another direction. Next, you can't destroy guarded seige weapons unless you destroy the huge formations of pikemen and heavy riders surrounding them. Also, there is no map editor. Despite these cons, I would highly recommend any real time strategy lover to get this game.
One of the best RTS games there is...

I haven't even had this game for a week and already I love it. True, it loads slowly (leading me to open it twice, resulting in a lock-up when you exit) but you can spend that time reading the extensive, encyclopedia-like manul. The only bug I've noticed is that when ever you start the map editor (which is nearly impossible to do, seeing as it is a beta version and is in German) and then try to play, youc't tell your men t attack. So don't use the map editor, there's plenty else to do. First of all, the graphics are great, sort of like those of an upgraded TZAR. The random maps are great fun (not to difficult, especially on easy) as are te campaigns, which are extremely hard do to a lack of adjutable difficulty levels for the campaigns. The 16 civs are all quite different, and each require different strategies. It hs tons of realism: your food constantly depletes, and your men start dying if you run out, and all gunpowder units use up coal and iron in every shot. The units are great, all with advantages and disadvantages, even if these be as subtle as extra protection against cannonballs or low cost. Forget generic unit names: the European designers came up with Strelets (Russia), Sich Cossacks, Hetmans, and Serdiuks (Ukraine), Roundshiers, Pandurs, and Croats (Austria) and many more. The combat is extremely tactical: whereas in AoE one unit always beats another, this game changes that-elevation, upgrades, and even ambushes(hiding units behind trees) are all possible. It's amazing to watch three musketeers draw a hoard of enemy cavalry into a valley, where your remaining three hundred men then open fire. You can lead raids with fast cavalry, capturing buildings, burning them, and enslaving enemy peasants (except those of Ukraine.) I have tons more to say, but I'm afraid I'm running out of room. YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is the only game that shows how warfare was in the 16th-18th centuries I am a hardcore wargamer so this was a breath of fresh air to me that they made this game all of the units are highly detailed and the combat relies on strategy not by number I personally have destroyed 1000+ units with 500 grenieders so if you are interested in renissance warfare then you must buy this game but chek for patches it is a little buggy and the gameplay is very hard to master but easy to learn
