When I saw the graphics and the development trees I was really enthusiastic, the story sounded good...then the let down...its terribly linear, like walking through very pretty corridors, and theres no save so you have to go back and redo lots of unnecessary stuff...respawn also seems to have bugs as you lose things- perhaps theres a patch to fix this.
So, wont be buying this one , perhaps next time they will realise that a PC game can be more than a console style and I'll shell out some cash.
Too Linear

Ok first off I will say this game has a great skills system, great graphics, and leveling style. Thats about as good as it gets. The story was a little obvious.
The WORST part of the game was that it was way too linear. Theres a single path that you follow for the main quest. Thats it, sure theres like one dungeon... as part of the main quest. There is absolutely no way to do things a different way. Just to blast your way through guys until you make it to the end, even the quest items are auto-picked up. So I guess if you like extremely linear games that you kill senselessly in then this game would be awesome otherwise you will hate it.

Very disappointed in this game. Perhaps when some good mods are written it will be playable. Spent maybe 2 hours messing with it and gave up.

At first some one the changes (the new town system) seems a bit annoying but it adds a certain depth to the game that the first lacked. If you are looking for the first game with a more involved experience and side quests then this is it!
Nice game but multiplayer problems

I have played this game up to a level 90-something multiplayer character, so I did get my moneys worth. I faithfully installed all the patches.
However, I have also encountered some frustrating problems along the way:
1) Other players can join (local LAN) my level 90-somethings games, but the level 90-something cannot ever join any other multiplayer game. If I create a new character, the new character can join any game, so my network is not broken. I have saved files from a level 40 version of the same character. That character can join other games, but when it gets to around level 60, the same bug always occurs. I sent the before and after versions of the character to the developers, but they couldn't help. Also, this character has some quests that don't work.
2) Multiplayer does not work with some Linksys routers. The linksys BEFSR41 version 2 router works with DS2 but BEFSR41 version 3 doesn't. Everying else I have except DS2 works with the version 3 router. I also have a cheap $10 LAN router that works with DS2. Maybe the rule is that you use the simplest router you can find.
Good Hack and Slash Fun

The basic reason for this "review" is to reply to a couple of things I've seen from other people. I'm currently running this game on an Nvidia 7900 GT card, and it works just fine -- zero problems. The person who's having graphics problems should look somewhere else. Of course, if you've just spent a lot of bucks on a high end system, it's petty natural to blame the game if things don't work quite right. Also, if reading those slowly scrolling dialog screens bothers you, just click on the square button at the bottom. All the text will appear at once. I've found this game to be a lot of fun, if very linear. It takes a while to get up to speed, but then it's hack and slash taken to the ultimate. Everything runs smoothly and problem-free. The graphics are good, if somewhat dated (for example the NPC's mouths don't move when they speak during cut scenes). The landscapes (desert, forest, jungle, snow, mountains and buildings) look right-on as do the combat effects (blood and body parts flying through the air -- the reason for an M rating). The light and shadow effects in the forests and the water reflections are just beautiful. Develop your characters right, put together a good party (including pets if you want) and your group can become incredibly powerful. The characters are hardly Baldur's Gate quality, but there is an attempt to give them personalities and develop an overall "team" feeling. I usually play a straight ranger and, for some reason, it's fun to have a bow and arrow (or crossbow or thrown weapon) that's almost as powerful as the repeating cannon in F.E.A.R. And there's a sequence (about mid-game) where you fight a dragon that's as well-done as any I've seen. I really look forward to the upcoming expansion pack (written by a different developer).
Not an attention grabber

I have a newer graphics card and I can't say that this game impressed me very much. Even though the monsters were unique-looking, there wasn't any variety in fighting them; you could either hack at them with a blade or cast the same set of weak spells and then hack at them with a blade. The quests were tedious and, needless to say, it didn't hold my attention for long. There are many better games out there for this kind of money so keep looking.

Very enjoyable when I had XP on my machine. Now that I've installed Windows Vista (which I do enjoy), this Microsoft game doesn't seem to be a "Game for Windows" product. I just can't get it to run, while older products like Rise of Nations run just fine under the new operating system. Somewhat surprising . . .
Diablo with better graphics....

I'm not much of a role-playing gamer... so I'm not too impressed with this game.
It has the 'feel' of Diablo II but with better graphics. Many of the scenes look the same as Diablo II, the story's just a little different, but it seems oddly similiar.... little Pigmy's in the jungle, Spider like creatures in the desert...
If you've played Diablo II, you may or may not like this as you'll get deja voo. It seems Microsoft did the bare minimum not to infringe on Diablo II's copyright.
Better grapics, with a zoom in feature that makes combat pretty fun.
If you're into mindless and hours of quests to get things for characters in the game, while fighting on the way, then this is for you.
However, this is why I'm not fond of current RPG's... you're basically a servent go getter throughout the game. One character needs this, another needs that go get it, spend hours getting it, return it, get something small or insignifigant, repeat. Until the end when you battle the final boss. Too many hours and not enough 'conquering' for me, but you may like it.
So, I give it 4 stars because it is too similar to Diablo, and the gameplay isn't that great.

I tried the demo and it's actually very lenghty, nearly 1 gig of play, and I took it to the end. It looked cool at first, but I was quickly disappointed. I pretty much had to puke my way through it.
I saw the full game and ALL the features because a friend of mine USE to own it. He threw it in the trash after playing it for about 5 hours.
The character creation is rather lame; Not much to choose from.
The music is.... ok.
The graphics are decent.
The NPC voices are nice, except for the captains and leader voices. They sound like they have a mouth full of food. lol.
The battle system is quite choppy and there is quite a bit of lag in the loading and new areas when you arrive.
The spell system is not bad, but is a bit weird to get use to.
The coolest feature I found was the ability to pick up all items in the area by pressing Z on the keyboard, but umm, that's about the extent of it.
I really didn't like the game and am glad I tested the demo and my friend's copy before I purchased it.
It's more of an Action game than an RPG. You point, click, kill, drink potion, rinse, repeat. Not many options.
"Two Thumbs Down."
