Fun, action-packed, easy-to-play, lots of hack-and-slash and loot, no gameplay issues -- not a classic but lots of fun.
Microsoft's "Dungeon Siege II" is a fun, action-packed, easy-to-play fantasy role-playing game that is well worth the money. It's a fairly standard hack-and-slash game where you start with one character and recruit/befriend more characters to join your party (or purchase a pet!), up to a total of four in your party.
The graphics are good but the game interface is great. The controls are simple, user-friendly, and self-explanatory, and all of your note-taking and logging is kept in the game. (No need to keep a notebook by the computer because your quest book will remember everything.) The character interface is especially good, and you can easily compare your new weapons and equipment with what your character is currently using by simply picking up the new item - your character's stats will temporarily change to show both the current stats and stats with the new item. You can also easily zoom and move the 3-D view, although I wish that the game allowed a lower, behind-the-party view instead of the isomorphic above-the-party view.
The quests are easy enough to complete without the use of online guides, with lots of dungeons and bad guys to kill. However, the quests are very scripted, and you rarely have any choices to make when talking to others, you're just along for the ride. As is typical of this genre, your character follows his destiny in a struggle to save the world from one evil villain. Although the character acting is very bad, this doesn't detract from the game because the ongoing plot is just a sideshow to the action.
This game is a lot of fun with many hours of gameplay. I never had any problems with the software. The quests are not as involved or challenging as those in some older classics such as the Might & Magic or Wizardry games, but the monsters you face are not your typical fantasy monsters but are much darker and more macabre. This game is not a classis but is still lots of fun.
Great Sequel

If you liked the original Dungeon Siege, you are going to love this one. Tons of quests, and a lot of the issues with the first one are addressed in the sequel. If you never have played Dungeon Siege and are interested, there is a downloadable trial version on the Microsoft Games website.

This game has great graphics and is very similar to Diablo 2. The party system is really awesome except when the party gets killed and u have to revive them. Overall this is one of the best games I have ever played besides Chrono Trigger for the SNES.
This rocks!

Dungeon Siege 1 was my first RPG game and I could not put it away. Now with DS2 which has a lot better graphics, I am working on 4 - 5 hours of sleep because I stop playing at night.
The main differance between DS1 and DS2 that I have noticed is that in DS1 you can save the game at a single point and go back to it. In DS2, when you save the game, you are saving the inventory, points, etc but not your position on the quest. A reload will put back in town and then you have to make your way back to where you were.
Overall, for a newbie RGP player I am very happy with game. If you are still unsure, try DS1. Most stores have it for $10 (including W-Mart).
THEY'RE BACK!!!!!! (no, really) in this sequal, things are a lot more dark and intense.

Remember that fantasy land of Aranna you previously saved on Dungeon Siege 1? Well, unfortunately you gotta save it again from a new evil. In this continuation from the DS saga, A prince named Valdis controls a sword of Zaramoth, which was a destroyer of the first age of Aranna. So he attempts to rule Ehb under his thumb and so this is where you start. Starring as a mercenary, you go in a tutorial if you've been sleeping under a rock. You also make friends with an elf that eventually gets murdered by Valdis after realizing that Valdis physically plans to kill as many mercs as possible. Some nice guy...
Anyway, on with the positives: this game looks great obviously and so the requirements are dead cheap considering how exciting this game is. Not to mention that you have to pick one skill and go on with it if you want to succeed in the game.
This game is also a lot bloodier than the first one. Now almost all creatures who are weak can also explode and let's just say getting turned into mincemeat. So, keep the little kids who liked Dungeon Siege 1 away from this sequel. Although the gameplay is simple hack and slash, DS2 is still fun. Even new additions such as more races and special "powers" perk up the explanation of power. Plenty of plot twists make this game a successful collection to the Aranna saga.
Now, it seems like the negatives are kinda small for a game that size but still affects gameplay. One is that the space this hog takes is 4GB. Also the fact that you can be a so-called "Jack of all trades" can affect gameplay depending on how you play it. Even the voice acting is sadistic and the voice actors sound high but then again, it is an RPG game.
Anyway, great game, very few flaws. Buy if but if some kids cry, "Mommie, buy DS2" maybe hope that there is a way to block the guts and since I'm looking for one. If not, then maybe toss him something else. Also be aware that there is a single-player demo out that has certain areas but the good news is that the monsters respawn after you log off your hero so it'll make things interesting. Luckily for parents it is almost over 1GB so hopefully forbidden kids will have to wait a while before they install this blood-fest.

I don't know about u, but I am getting sick of the whole MMORPG thing. This game was a welcome break from that mediocrity, but more importantly, its a game that stands up and exceeds any oher hack and slash RPG's I have played - and I have played them all.
The fight with the Dragon Talon is one of the best sequences I have seen in any RPG and caught me totally by surprise (thx Chris Taylor and crew for this). Also, I love the fact that they advertise No Online Fee's on the box. That was funny...ya this game is worth it...

Let me start off by saying I was rather impressed with DSII. The graphics are decent when they're even turned down (I ran it on a geforce FX 5500) but I have no idea what they are really like on a decent card. The only thing that looks truly awful are the character models, but like I said, that could be very different on a better card. For those complaining about not being able to run the game because of high requirements.. you must be really doing something wrong. I ran it on an AMD 3200+ with a geforce FX 5500 and 512MB sdram. That's pretty bottom of the barrel as far as gaming goes so if you can't get it to run, upgrade.
All in all this is a great game. I have not played the first one, so I can't speak about many changes. The party system is rather simple and easy to use. And while the game is pretty linear, what do you expect from a Diablo II clone? Diablo was no more open ended than this. In fact, I think less. There are a ton of side quests and such, most of which you will never complete unless you care to. Also, DSII gives you reasons to go back to earlier "Acts" because more quests are able to be completed after you've already moved on.
In short, this is a well done Diablo II clone. It still has "set items" and "magic items" and all the stuff you're already used to. It takes much more time to complete and while the quests are sometimes stupid or frustrating, you'll always have some of those.
ANOTHER BOTCHED SEQUEL...

When the original game is a groundbreaking masterpiece, its sequel rarely lives up to the unavoidable hype. There are notable exceptions of course (BALDUR's GATE II and MAX PAYNE II spring to mind). However, I have to agree with most of the other reviewers: NEVER had I been so DISAPPOINTED with a sequel more than DUNGEON SIEGE II!
Following the innovative and brilliant original DS, the anticipation was so great that minor flaws would be forgiven. With DS2, though, it was one big blunder after another.
Contrary to the original DS (for which one had to physically tear himself from the computer screen) this one is a boring chore. Running back and forth to the base camp to barter equipement is a tedious procedure with all the fun sucked out of it. Moreover, no matter how much you improve your character (either leveling up or equipment-wise), your enemies simply match your abilities (or resort to crowding) resulting in NO CHANGE in the gameplay. I am not talking new enemies, but aren't higher leveled characters supposed to easily wipe out enemies encountered many hours before? This way, the whole game is nothing but a even-leveled blandness.
On a similar note: why was it necessary for **minor** enemies to have so much life? I was bored out of my skin hacking and slashing FOREVER! Increase the damage they can cause and keep it interesting - do not give them a longer life only to artificially increase the game's duration!
Oh, and the enchanting system was a joke - since the items found were much better than anything one could pay to have forged.
Graphically, DS2 is not even one step higher than the original DS. Shadows and particles may have increased, but characters (and equipment) have not. As a result, the heat of the battle (even on high-end systems) will find you in the midst of a disorienting...blur.
This was the chronicle of a botched job foretold. With the exception of OBLIVION (which was an excellent game), one can count on 2K GAMES to...ruin any game franchise and kill its successful progress once and for all. Gaming history is littered with the relics of their failures: STRONGHOLD II, CIVILIZATION 4 (not until its second expansion did this one become a playable game), SID MEIER's RAILROADS - the list is endless...They should probably stick to consoles.
My advice: avoid this stinker and, instead, try the original DUNGEON SIEGE (and its expansion). It is a MUCH BETTER GAME!
