Must-have for Baldur's Gate II players only

This is an expansion and should be considered like one. It does not improve upon the original Baldur's Gate II so much that I would buy BGII just to play this expansion (the way I would buy Starcraft just to play its expansion, Brood Wars).

For those who already own BGII, however, this is an investment more than worth the money. The new areas (especially the now-infamous Watcher's Keep) are fairly challenging, the new spells, skills, and items are almost mind-boggling in their sheer ...-kicking power, and there's a brand new (if not terribly original) storyline to boot. You'll definitely want this expansion if you wanted to play the Bhaalspawn saga to its bloody end.

As an added bonus, Throne of Bhaal allows players to use the 'Tab' key to highlight items on the ground, chests, doors, etc. While this may not sound like much of an improvement, now that I have it I can't imagine playing BGII without it.

A WONDERFUL, MASTERPIECE ADDITION TO A GAME

If you played Shadows of Amn, then you will be dying to get this expansion pack. I recommend getting it right away, because some features work even better if you have it during your progress in S.O.A.

Buy at own risk

There are a number of people like myself experiencing a slowdown bug that makes the games all but unplayable. Every few seconds the game will pause for a 1/2 second or so! You might want to wait until a patch is released that fixes this annoying problem. Check the publisher's message boards for more info regarding this known annoyance. When I get this game working, I'm sure my rating will be 5 stars once i'm able to run this game as what i've seen and heard have been great.

GET THIS GAME !!!!!!!!!

If it is possible for you to find a better RPG than The Throne of Bhaal, I would like to see it. You start off with almost all the stuff you ended with, you can import your characters, and you also get Seraevok, you know, the boss from BG1...

An ending....true but perfect? No.

Many gamers like myself were waiting anxiously for this expansion to come out. It falls short sadly. The rpg aspect that was part of the series isnt there not to mention I didnt really like a lot of the dialog options (playing a paladin and being rude just didnt make sense-to me). The npcs lost their 'flavor' and were not as original as the first. Definite tech probs as the load times are sometimes slow. There are also bugs which are quite annoying (one where i got bamfed to near the ending bypassing 2 sectors altogether...tells me who the villian is too no surprise but I would have liked to find out later). The game feels rushed. It wasnt ready I think and was released before its time. All these being said there are many good aspects to the game. The high level powers rock although i disagree with spellcasters having to take up slots in an already limited spellbook. There are some neat surprises (no I wont list them here *smile*). Some interesting enemies to fight also. The wild mage is a welcome addition to the game and can be downright hilarious at times. I would have rated this game a 3.5 or 3.75 but not a 3...its not average.

Don't Stop now!!!

ToB is a great game...perfect graphics, clear sound, high levels, new powerful enimys...a great way to end an epic saga...though, I wish the guys at Black Isle, and BioWare would keep the saga going.

They've gone about as far as they could go

If you've enjoyed the previous chapters of the Baldur's Gate "Bhaalspawn" saga, Throne of Bhaal (ToB) is a must-have -- if only to achieve some closure on the story. ToB has a much tighter (read: more linear) story than its predecessors, which has its pros and cons. The main con is that it's much shorter than BG2. But linearity also gave Bioware the chance to create a deeper, more fulfilling experience.

At a few key moments, they realized this potential. Overall, however, the story falls pretty flat, and has the feeling of "Let's just get this over with." It doesn't help that by this point, the players are incredibly powerful, having blown past the upper bounds of what Dungeons & Dragons was designed for. Thus, there are a lot of ridiculously powerful monsters, items, powers, etc... which gets boring after a while. The developers seem self-conscious of this; your imp butler/blacksmith, who forges magical artifacts from things you find throughout the game, tells you "Lots to find -- lots to collect!" in a sort-of wink-wink to the Diablo line of games.

Perhaps the most interesting possibilities in this game involve the character Imoen and the new one available at the very beginning. Also, your romance (if any) continues to develop, perhaps in some unexpected directions. There are new interactions among the characters, as well, which in my opinion are the (all-too-infrequent) highlights of the game.

I can't say that you won't be disappointed, but if you've gone this far, you may as well finish it. That seems to be what Bioware was thinking, too.

Cant stop.

I loved BGII so much I played through it multiple times with different characters and trying to complete all of the romance subquests. When I finally got the expansion, I was disappointed to find the entire thing was one long, tedious, drawn out battle and you no longer had the freedom of wandering wherever you wanted. Also, the NPC interaction and subplots and the romances were the most interesting part of BGII and were for the most part absent from the expansion. As much as I loved BGII, this left me disappointed.

This should have been a whole new game!

I love BSG II. And when I got this, it was such a let down. It has cool battle's and a decent plot but I think BlackIsle could have put a little more effort into this and make this a new game (aka BSG III). I give this two stars because it does have potential. But overall, a big disapointment.
