Where do I begin???

All I can say is.....microsoft failed me for the last time. With all the hype surounding this game I felt like I was going to be part of history, playing halo 3. I was part of history the history of a crappy halo 2.5. The graphics are the same as halo 2 even worse at some times because the humans look like drugged out mutants. The gameplay is no different from halo 2 except for the equipment, and de-powering of nearly every human weopon. The pistol shoots as slow as the shotgun. Way to go bungie make the good weopons crappy and the crappy weopons better. What in the world is a mongoose???? The vehicles are just plain ridiculous and unpractical. I guess I'll drive my mangoose around hoping no one shoots me because I can't retaliate at all. True hardcore gamers will complete the campaign mode in less than 5 hours even on legendary mode. What a joke@!!! Lets make halo 3 shorter than halo and halo 2 smart huh???? The multiplayer is a joke. The maps are worse than the previous halos. Maps are uninspired and a chore to be in. So let's evaluate here shall we: the halo 3 graphics are even worse than halo 2 graphics, the gameplay is the same, the new weopons stink, pointless vehicles, and terrible multiplayer. Whom.....that gives halo 2.5 a 1 out of 5. I guess charging 60 dollars for a rehashed worse halo2 is a good proposition for some. But, I'm not a microsoft tool like them. I am a real gamer(one of the last few) who buy quality games. All in all I will throw my 360 at a bus so I can finally get entertainment watching it fall apart. Better than playing halo 3 atleast.

Not surprised!

I will never understand why there is so much hype for Halo.. the first one was a sub-average game, the second one was garbage, and surprise surprise the third one sucks as well... The game is boring and slow paced, the graphics are nothing to write home about, and there seems to be very little change in the gameplay from the first two in the series. If people are so desperate for a decent FPS, either get Bioshock, or wait for Unreal Tournament 3.. Buyers beware, this game is trash!

Not delivering on promises and hype

1) Hype: Banshee - I saw video of Halo 3 maps where Banshee's could fly out of the atmosphere - no fish bowl/glass ceilings. Reality: The Banshee runs into the old low glass ceiling AND you can't even fire at things directly below you, you can't fly straight down anymore.

2) Hype: Multiplayer maps would be greatly expanded - more than 30 people playing online at the same time. Reality: Big team battle? 12 players max. Halo 2 allowed 16 players...how is this better?

3) Hype: Grenades! A few new types of grenades, and a few new things called something or other, but they're just grenades too. Reality: Difficult to use "new things," hard to cycle through all the grenade types, difficult to seperate them in your mind for deployment during game play using different buttons.

4) Hype: Unhinged turrets! Reality: They suck and slow you down.

5) Hype: New vehicles! Reality: I drove a human motorcycle with no guns and a covenant motorcyle thing with one big wheel that was impossible to control well.

I hope they release a bunch of fixes to un-suck this game they gave us.

Don't buy the Hype

So... I heard from all of my Halo playing friends that THIS was the game to get. I HAD to get the game they said. The hype was huge, and despite my spidey senses telling me "dont buy it- wait to play it- you havent even seen in game footage yet!" I listened to my buddies and went out and bought it. To be honest- I wish now that I hadnt. Call me what you want- but I am NOT impressed with anything other than the hype machine behind it.

To me this looks like just another FPS with graphics that "pass" but arent anything new or impressive in the least and dont come close to matching all of the media hype and pretty trailers.

The sound is quite annoying at times- like the aliens that sound like the munchkins in the wizard of oz. Am I missing something? Was this supposed to be a comedic game? Other than that the game seems to take itself seriously.. TOO seriously in fact. By the second or third telepathy flash (or whatever you call it when the blue chick gets in your head and you see what looks like a bad video feed in your brain), me and my buddy I was playing with were laughing out loud at how bad it was... SO cheezey! Like a bad B-Movie! Is that what Halo is SUPPOSED to be? Am I missing something? Someone please tell me if I am.

Play control is ok- but often counter intuitive in my opinion.

I REALLY wanted to say "WOW"... all I have said so far is "meh...so-so"... And after all of the publicity I was expecting a game rating of 5- or at least a four! thats why I give this a two... for letting me down after such huge hype.

But hey- they got my money right? I give the hype-machine a 5 out of 5 for sure!

This is not a review so don't kill me

This is not a review, so please don't kill me if that's what you are looking for. I just wanted to comment that Halo 3 earned 172 million dollars in the first 24 hours of its release. This is more even than Spiderman 3 (which set box-office records) and Harry Potter 7 (the most hyped book in history). So why is it that although I have had Halo 3 on pre-order for over a year now, it still isn't here, when I got Harry Potter 7 11 hours after midnight (when it came out)? What is the reasoning for that? I have been eagerly anticipating the release just like everybody else in the U.S. and I am without a copy while all my friends pre-ordered theirs from Gamestop and walked right in on Tuesday to pick up their copy (many of my friends are done now with the game and by the time I get it- which Amazon has promised will be no later than Friday, although they changed that today, as it was promised no later than tomorrow as of this morning- my friends will be done and what is "hella tight" for me I will not be able to share because everybody else will have moved on to multiplayer. What is the fun in that?). Has anybody else not yet recieved their copy of Halo (just for the record I pre-ordered the regular edition, not the Limited Editions which are showing up scratched)?

Finally, a FPS worth buying

So many games for the 360 lately have been hyped up and then when they are released, just die. Halo 3, after a run in problem with my copy of the Collectors being scratches so I just bought the normal, is the best FPS game ever. It's been a while since I have played a Halo game, so this brought back a lot of those dusty nostalgic feelings that made me fall in love with it in the first place. I'm only a little while into the game now, so don't know what lies ahead, but so far, I can't stop playing it.

Not perfection, but pretty close

I was certainly skeptical when I picked up a copy of this game. I played a little bit of the beta but I wasn't really that impressed. I never really played the previous games either, but I knew that my friends on live would be playing this so I had to break down and get it. Anyways, it's so fun! I haven't played much of the campaign yet, so I'm going to discuss the multiplayer, which is probably the reason a lot of people buy it anyways. The graphics are pretty good; they're nothing like Gears, but then I often got lag on Gears and people always complained about the host advantage. I'm playing from Japan, but I had no problem playing games of 12 people with mostly stateside members. I haven't played a match yet where I noticed any lag and the game play seems really solid. I especially like the balance of weapons and the physics in this game. Everything feels really smooth and there seems to be a good balance in game play. I guess I'll play it through the weekend and see if my opinion changes, but so far I think it's awesome. I'll still have to play Gears on a regular basis to get my fill of GOAR though.

I would definitely recommend purchasing this game.

Good multiplayer.

As most people have said, the multiplayer is excellent. But I was disappointed in the campaign.

P.S. Don't ever pre-order a game from Amazon if you expect to receive on or even the day after its release.

Halo 3 - The long awaited ending to a remarkable series

I must admit when I first heard about Halo: Combat Evolved back in 2001, I didn't know what they were talking about. Throughout two years I have heard just hype after hype after hype, forcing me to think "overrated". When I finally got my Xbox and Halo along with it, I strapped into FPS mode and began going through the story of Halo I saw what they meant. It was a beautiful game and wonderful storyline that bound together perfectly...though it didn't hook me. It took me a solid two-three months to beat it, not because I didn't like it, but because I didn't see what was absolutely great about it.

Years past and same things happen with Halo 2, I beat it in a two-three month span. But then, like the gamer I am, I couldn't wait to play Halo 3, for closure on what was going to happen. I got Halo last Friday and after a weekend away from the console, I beat it within a week of buying it. Halo 3 is a thrilling conclusion to an amazing series that continues to push the limits on what we call "Perfection". Halo 3 in my opinion, is the pinnacle of the series, a shining beacon atop the pyramid of the series. Wonderfully orchestrated score, loving every second of the piano bits and the overture.

I can say without a doubt that this game, is a must buy. This series is a must buy. I can say though that it will be years for another great FPS to come out for Halo will shine on for many years to come. From the very beginning to the very end it will keep you on the edge.

The ending, however, robbed me of emotion, for words cannot describe it. You must see it. There is no more a fitting end than the one Bungie gave it. Yes as I have stated before it robs of emotion, for you are speechless when you watch it. But any other ending, would have seemed cheesy, or just been terrible. It is the yin to BioShock's Good Ending Yang; what giveth you emotion, it must be taken away.

I have never been a Halo fanboy. I've never been a big fan of the series (More of an Final Fantasy guy), but this ending game was just what I needed. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't buy it.

Awesome game, but it's far from perfect.

Alright, I've purchased every version of Halo since it was released on PC back in '03, I've loved each and every one, the story has been great, the gameplay has been superb, and the multiplayer has been hours of fun.

This game does what all the previous installments have done, but not quite as good.

There is nothing wrong with the gameplay, it's virtually the same, all the old weapons and vehicles are there along with new ones, and the way Master Chief moves is the same. The campaign is just a bit too short for my liking, however.

The atmosphere is excellent, the Flood levels are wonderfully creepy, the beautiful soundtrack, the superb voice acting all make for an epic experience.
There is one point in the game where a traumatized Marine mourns the loss of two friends infected by the Flood whom he had to kill was a scene that was, while not important to the story, made that level that much more upsetting. little things like this are an excellent addition.

The graphics are good enough, but it suffers from what most "Next-gen" games do: Bloom effects, too much, too bright. Nothing intolerable.

The multiplayer is fun as always, the new vehicles and game modes (Zombie, finally) make for hours of fun, the only hindrance is also on all Live games: Kids, screeching profanities and trash-talking you in prepubescent tones, put them on mute if you have Live.

Now, my only real quarrel with this game: the story.

The storytelling is excellent and it progresses seamlessly. The ending, not so much. (No spoilers, don't worry)

For those of us who have loved the Harry Potter series for the last however many years were quite upset when JK Rowling decided to slaughter many main characters, it seems Bungie has decided to pull the same stunt.
I won't reveal who dies, I'll just say too many, I'm hoping I'm not the only guy to cry at the end. I honestly can't think of a worse way to end the series, see it for yourself, the extent of the problem can't be seen unless you play through the series.

It is an excellent game, but the ending will no doubt disappoint, multiplayer will continue to entertain.
