This Game is EPIC

This game is amazing...much improved from halo 2 and that game was the best game out for the whole time it was on XBOX. Do yourself a favor and get this game. Notice that all the people writing bad reviews about this haven't even played the game and are basing everything off of halo 2 and 1. At least play this game at a store before you decide that you don't want it (hihgly unlikely) I dont even know why im writing this review when I can be playing my halo 3. Anyways, much improved, graphics, gameplay, weapons, vehicles, etc. all better.

Dont know what you 1-stars are talking about

I personally consider this one of the best games I have ever played. The storyline wasnt as good as I expected, it was too rushed and I couldnt grasp what was happening. Also the gameplay in the in-game game is completely different from the previous two Halo games. There are tons more guns, the new addition of equipment, and a very odd life system. No longer is there a shield, only a bar at the top and if that hits 0 your dead. The graphics are simply breathtaking. I was playing it and a friend walked in and
thought I was watching a reality movie. For all you people who say it sucked, the trick is too hook it up to an HD-tv, thats what its optimized for and when the graphics enter unbelievibly-blow your mind state. The multiplayer is incredible. It is similar to Halo 2, but with the introducing of Forge and more maps. I played for hours yestarday and never got tired. So even though you may not enjoy the campaign as much as you thought, and the graphics may blow your mind temporarily, i give this game an easy 5/5.

Doesnt Run at 720p

The game while great and visually stunning does not run at 720p, but at 640p. This was a non issue till the scalar chip in my zephyr (with hdmi) xbox 360 failed.

Apparrently playing halo 3 caused my HANA chip to die. That's too bad because other wise the resolution doesnt matter, the game is beautiful.

This is something to keep in mind if you have a new revision xbox 360. My 360 was 1 month old with less than 140 hours of play time (100 for oblivion, some hours on the dashboard and some more for halo 3).

Hopefully there will be another trilogy

Bought this game the day it came out. Getting down to brass tacks let's just say I am happy to be an Xbox 360 owner. When I first got it I was still using my Mitsushi 1080i. I thought the gameplay etc. was great, but wasn't blown away by the graphics. Well...two days later I bought a Samsung 40 inch LCD with 1080P. Holy bejesus, the graphics looked absolutely incredible. I was so surprised the difference it made. I am on mission 7 (don't get much time for gaming) and I don't want it to be over so I am taking it slow, kind of like dragging out opening presents on Christmas day as long as possible. I could go on and on about why it is in my top three Xbox games (Bioshock and Skate are the others) but it has been said many a time here on the reviews so far. Bottom line, if you don't have it, get it, it's friggin fantastic. Apropros the negative reviews on here, I own a Wii also and love it, and would buy a PS3 if it got some better games out. All the PS3 fanboys on here giving H3 a low mark are ostensibly jealous. If you loved Halo 1 and 2, you will love Halo 3.

Halo 3 is a Shallow Experience

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 19 / 61

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of fanaticism surrounding the Halo series. I remember playing the first Halo and wondering how anyone could possibly say this was a defining FPS experience. The textures were dry and repetitive. The enemies looked like Sesame Street characters and were too cartoonish for the storyline. Not that the storyline was anything compelling. I'm getting a little tired of these alien invasion stories that have been done a zillion times over. The A.I. was clumsy, goofy, and non-dynamic plus acted like numbskulls. What about the multiplayer experience? Get real. It's like you never touched a PC FPS before.

Halo 3 is here and what does it offer? Halo fans admit it's more and more of the same. It is indeed as I've tried it. I own it. I've played it for hours on end. It's a little bit of a tuned up Halo 1 & 2. Hurray for slightly updating everything sequels! But for some reason Halo fans are enthralled by it. It's like a whole gaming world (PC) has been sealed off from most of the Xbox 360 crowd. It's as if Halo fanatics never took a glimpse at Counterstrike, Battlefield or dozens upon dozens of other PC FPS games that offer more gameplay options, refined gameplay, immersive graphics and A.I. that acts human. I couldn't imagine their faces if they ever touched the PC version of Far Cry.

An important aspect for any game is the controls. Why do you want to aim with an analog stick? Why not use the precision of a mouse and keyboard? Let me tell you something, the price for Halo 3 at $60 bucks a pop is actually ten dollars higher or is equivalent in price to brand new FPS games for the PC. Why would you shoot for lower standards? Installation of a game in a PC isn't hard. You put in the disk, input the CD-key, click "next" a few times, wait for it to install (five mins for one time, big whoop) then you're playing.

Are PCs expensive? Yes. But for what you're paying when you get the console, the online service, the controllers and all that junk you're likely to find a PC of comparable price that can play better games. Not to mention all the other services that PCs can do that are essential in today's world. After a few years of owning a PC you can buy a brand new video card for about a $100 instead of a new PC. You don't have to buy a new PC every year or even every few years. Just as long as you're smart enough not to waste an untold sum of money buying hardware updates to only see a bit more eye candy (remember, gameplay is the fun factor). Plus with adequate hardware you'll still be playing better games and seeing better eye candy than Halo 3 could offer.

I hate to break it to the Halo fanboys but the Halo series aren't the only games that allow a lot of people to shoot each other at the same time. It's already been done hundreds of times in the PC world. With all the past history for PC the latest PC FPS games are enormously more redefined than shallow bore fests like Halo 3. If multiplayer with friends inside the house is your thing, do a LAN party or pick up a Wii. You know, the Wii. The only console system available right now that offers innovative controls? Yeah that system. The system that even your girlfriend has a blast playing.

Taking a look at the positive reviews, I've noticed a few major logical fallacies appearing. You know, despite the reviews that are awfully vague (a few of the negative reviews are guilty of this as well). One is the unsupported assumption that if you don't like Halo 3, you just suck at the game. Anyone could apply that to any game. I could say you don't like "Barbie's Playhouse" because you suck at the game. This is absurd and shows the lack of critical thinking skills by the reviewers who make this claim.

What's funny is that these same people think they have such uber skill. I play FPS games when I don't feel like thinking, because they're so dang easy. You run and shoot. You use "advanced" techniques like "ducking for cover." You have to be a complete dunce to not be good at an FPS. Halo 3's campaign was a breeze. My opponents online gawked around as lame brains. I'm not a genius either. I'm not the best gamer around town. I'm a little above average. I can say that anyone who put a little bit of effort into FPS shooting could do exceptionally well. Have you seen how other players behave though? They're warped out of their minds with some ADHD condition.

Another logical fallacy is that because "professional" reviewers have given Halo 3 good ratings, it therefore must be good. These professional reviewers are not independent. They depend on the consumer for their paycheck. Just imagine if they gave Halo 3 a bad review. Can you imagine the fanatical outcries? If I was a paid reviewer who depended on other people who loved the Halo series for my paycheck; I would be literally insane to then diss the game. The professional reviewers are part of a business that wants people to grab their magazine or visit their site. They're about cash or trying to get more members. You don't get good publicity by angering a huge segment of the video game crowd.

I'm giving this game a 1 star. No, it's not the worst game ever made or even close. But Halo 3 is a game that would've been made on PC about 5-10 years ago. And it charged me $60 for the privilege. Reflecting upon my purchase I wouldn't accept the game as free. Now you might call me insane for not taking a free game. But what's the point of taking a free game that pales in comparison to other games you already own? It's like a free offer to waste a significant portion of your life on something that simply isn't worth it. Halo 3 is a redundant monstrosity. Go play a PC FPS.

is ok

Well I got it. Full price and so far it's a lot like Halo 2 but a little more confusing. There are these cut scenes where that cyber ghost lady says confusing things like "do you wanna kill me" and "I am a god" and "you are the chosen one". I have no idea what the story is and after a while of her yammering, I really don't care. I got t so I could shoot aliens for those days when I am less than happy about work. I guess I got that but I was hoping for more for my $60. If I could do it again I would have gotten Bioshock.

Great for true Halo fans - alright for the "kinda" Halo fan

I just finished the campaign yesterday and played the online for a while last night. I thought I'd give my 2 cents. First of all I'm not a fanatic Halo fan. Halo 1 was a break thru however many things have happened since. I just wanted to see how the story ended is why I bought the game. I do like it though and I'm sure I'll play it for a couple months or so before I get bored of it which is more than I can say for a lot of releases I take back within a week.

I wish I had more to say about the online mode but I haven't played that much yet but I'm sure someone will cover it. Some of the complaints I read on other review...

Graphics: My first thought was the same as most. Wow...the graphics aren't that great and looks cartoonish. After playing the game all the way through I liked the graphics a little more. Halo 3 had `different' graphics than anyone else. Bungie did develop their own game engine so you have to realize they did it to their specification. What is Halo? A room full of kids pumped up on cola and candy. The game needs to be fast so I think Bungie developed according. It's a give and take. What is lacking in Bungie's game engine is the particle effects that all the next gen games have to add dimension to the map. (Fog, smoke, debris in the air) Halo 3 didn't have those. Their maps were crisp and clear but...flat to look at? For example you see a wall on the other side of the map. It looks clear as hell but no depth which makes it end up looking comic bookish and not realistic. They had some really large looking maps though which I took a second to look around but still wasn't awed like some other recent releases. They are a contender though. No doubt about that. You pop in Halo 3 and you know it was supposed to be a big title. Oh..I read in a couple reviews that the graphics are the same as Halo 2. Umm...hell no. That's some dramatic emo kid whining. Don't listen.

Peopel say that it is the same as Halo 2: Yes. But more vehicles and weapons. I'm not sure why people thought Bungie would completely regut the 3rd in a series of games. This game was made for Halo fans. The ones who will be playing it for the next year or 2. Halo wasn't my game but didn't you ever have a game you loved so much that all you wanted was a sequel? Add some maps, update the graphics and gimme a couple more weapons and I'll play it for another year or so. That's what Halo 3 is.

Some say the campaign too short: For me it was perfect. I buy games for their online value, not their 30 hours of offline play. I solved it in 5 hours on easy. FYI - it is impossible to die on easy. The maps were nice and the placement of the AI characters seemed like it would be challenging. Beats me I just moon jumped over them. I just wanted to see the story. I'll save my good moves for online. I hate games where I get stuck. It disrupts the flow of the story.

It was a good ending by the way. There were a lot of cut scenes that were nice. I think games should have more cut scenes to keep you in tuned with the plot.

Sorry, I only played online for about two hours. But yep...this is where you determine whether you are a true Halo fan or you are the other type "Yeah...I'm getting Gaylo when it comes out just to look at it". Halo is Halo. Mastercheifs bouncing around small maps at mach speed cracking people in the back of the skull. Boing...smack..crack. "You got owned!!!" (13-yr old voice)

In my opinion they should have made it more "adult". Times change. 5 yr old are gutting people in GOW and walking thru endless hallways of blood in Bioshock. Microsoft should have acted accordingly. Rated PG-13 equals boring. Rated R is the way to go today.

After tons of hype, Halo 3 has hit the stores. However, I'm finding a really odd phenomena: everyone I talk to isn't that into it.

Don't get me wrong, these people are hardcore Halo fans (loved every second of Halo 1), and that's to their own right. Personally, I enjoyed Halo 1 for what it was, 2 was okay as well. Halo 3 itself wasn't anything special in my book.

Pros: Graphics, Multiplayer
Cons: Story, price, generic experience

The graphics (more so than the sound) are a delight in Halo 3; it really shows that this is, in fact, a next gen console. The environments and the overall feel of the maps make you feel pretty good throwing down your money on an Xbox 360.

Multiplayer (while other than some additions) is generally the same, ignoring the "tweaks". Bungie didn't really mess too much with multiplayer for good reasons, most of which is that it is fun as is. As for the tweaks, it only helped the Halo 2 weapons be less useless (lets face it, some were too overpowered or underpowered).

However, as the main complaint with Halo has been since the 2nd, the story blows. Without spoiling anything, the game kind of disregards trying to make the story new and exciting (or showing any effort on its behalf). The ending will be leave you saying "uhh, what? REALLY? That's... terrible". Another sign of no effort was the length of the single player campaign. Very short, very dull.

I mentioned before that it's a generic experience, and by that I mean if you've played Halo before, LOOK OUT.. cause it's the same thing again. Really, nothing has changed in this installment, for better or for worse. If you want a new experience, play Metriod Prime 3. At least that game mixes it up a little.

Lastly, the odd comment of price needs to be addressed. I say that the price of basically every new 360 game is 60+ dollars. Sure it's a little steep for some, but it's almost insulting considering how this game isn't anything new. It's like buying a Madden game. Sure, they have up to date stats and players, plus some useless features, but it's still the same game as last year. Nothing is different. So saying that Halo 3 is a brand new game (therefore costs a brand new price of 60 bucks) is outrageous. At least, the game should be 40 (after all, they did add some new things and graphics are nice) but, again, nothing new happens.

Overall, I'm very disappointed with Halo 3, and I really hope (though it doesn't look likely) that it will be the last in the series. They should just stop releasing Halo games at full price and just release new multiplayer maps from time to time. Why try to hide the fact that the game is so shallow in story? Work with it! Clearly, the mobs of Xbox Live halo players is a clear sign that Halo is an institution, even though the story is an obvious throwaway. If you are a fan of Halo in any capacity, I suggest you play this game (mostly if you are a multiplayer fan). But don't expect much. If you think you can, wait for a price drop. By that point, new content and a wider variety of players online should be out and the real fun can begin.

I don't get all the halo hysteria... it's a very average game.

I'm not sure if diehard Halo fans were created near the time of the first release, when the genre was young, and when Halo was really something of an innovation. But be that as it may, I am not one of those folks.

I first played Halo 2 (never played the first) after playing a lot of contemporary first- and third- person shooters (Gears of War, Rainbow Six, etc), and I never really could understand the appeal of the game. It seemed cartoonish, with lackluster graphics, so-so weapons, and a floaty, sluggish feel to game play. Somehow this combination of elements fostered an unimaginable allegiance and love for this game that I just don't understand and probably never will.

I picked up this version because the hype has been otherworldly, and I didn't want to be left out of what I thought was going to be a groundbreaking, genre-redefining release. But I was wrong. Halo 3 feels very much like its predecessors, offering little if anything in the realm of advancement in any of the aforementioned areas. I deeply regret buying before renting it.

And to those of you who popped in Halo 1 and 2 and didn't "get it," I assure you, you won't feel any different about Halo 3, however, you will be $65 lighter than you were before. Save your time and your money. Halo 3 profits from the momentum of previous releases and preposterous amounts of fanboy loyalty -- nothing else.

Ok, I got this game @ 10am yesterday @ work b/c pre-ordered it and honestly, I wasn't expecting it to arrive until this morning. All I can say is WOW!!!! I have played this game an estimated 6 hours since I've had it and it is by far one of the best games EVER, on ANY console. The storyline picks up where it left off form Halo 2 and the action is non-stop from there. The graphics are stupendous and the fact that you have much better weapons make it a huge plus. I haven't tried playing the game online but I will soon. You barely have time to blink b/c the enemies are coming at you w/such speed and ferociousness. I wasn't expecting this and I am very satisfied w/my purchase. I see other gamers saying that this game isn't as great as whatever, but each game is MADE TO BE DIFFERENT!!! Stop trying so hard to compare it to other titles on this system and other systems things and take it for what it is, an awesome FPS. I'm sorry, I don't think the market for FPS' would fare too well if each and every FPS was like the rest.
