Must Own Launch Title

If you haven't picked up Kameo yet but you enjoy games that are a complete blast to play, you are sorely missing out. The game isn't marketed very well; it looks kiddish and cute. And, to an extent, it is "cute." But if you can shrug off the fact that you are playing a female fairy, you will find this game to be an utter blast for the whole family.

Kameo is a graphical powerhouse for Xbox 360. It looks stunning. There are times when I started playing and would just stare at the environment in wonder. The opening level is absolutely stunning. Hundreds of red dragons arc through the sky, trolls are climbing up huge castle parapets, fire explodes everywhere, and here you are climbing up a frozen ledge. This level teaches you the basics of changing into your forms. And this is what the game is all about. There are 10 elemental warriors you can morph into. In fact, you will hardly ever play as "Kameo" but you spend most of your time as the other huge creatures you can transform into with the push of a button.

This transforming takes up the majority of the gameplay. There are puzzles and enemies that will require one or more of your warriors to solve/beat. As an example, in the first level you have access to an armadillo-type creature that can roll and a yeti-type creature that can climb surfaces. One puzzle involved turning into the armadillo, speeding up off a ramp, transforming to the yeti in mid-air and then climbing up a wall with him. That is a rather simple puzzle but is a good example of the type of gameplay found within.

Enemies will sometimes require a specific character(s) to beat as well. An early instance of this are trolls who have shield in front of them. You can use Rubble's lob ability to toss a rock behind the enemy and as the rock rolls back to you, it will hit the enemy from behind and allow you to pummel him.

I've already touched on the graphics, but I want to again reiterate that they are terrific. They easily show what the 360 can do, sometimes with 100s of trolls, elves, dragons and "tanks" on the screen at one time, real time, with Kameo charging through the midst on horseback. Stunning. And not even a hint of lag.

The sound is well done, as well. The voices are decent, the sound effects are great and the music in the background is stunningly beautiful.

Kameo is about a 10 or so hour game, give or take. But it is incredibly fun and can be enjoyed by almost any gamer, regardless of age. I would definitely recommend picking this one up.

Really fun game and a nice break from FPS

I initially purchased Call of Duty 2 and Perfect Dark Zero when I got my xbox 360. We celebrated christmas a little early and I got Kameo. What a refreshing experience! I can't believe that this game hasn't gotten more hype. It can be compared to a "Mario 64" type of experience. Now this game doesn't have the pure awe inspiring power of mario 64 nor is it as long but what it does have is the platform/adventure aspect that I love in so many games. This game is just simply fun! I haven't beat it yet but I heard its rather short around 10 hours which is already telling me that I'm going to be dissappointed when this great ride ends. The graphics are amazing and seeing hundreds of Trolls running at you on screen is unbelievable and shows some of what is to come once the 2nd generation titles begin to come out for the xbox 360. I love the water effects and the fact that I have to morph into different characters in order to complete certain objectives. For example in one area a fire demon is attacking me so I turn into deep blue and spray him with water until I put out his fire. Then I morph into pummel weed and knock him out with an uppercut. My favorite warrior to morph into is this armadillo looking creature which rolls into a ball. it brings back fond memories of marble madness and I roll him around and reminds me of sonic the hedgehog as I build up his spin move and go barrelling into enemies sending them flying like bowling pins. This really is a fun game and such a nice break from firing machine guns and killing germans or sneaking around the facilites at datadyne. I really highly recommend at least renting this game to see what else your new 360 has to offer. I don't think you'll be dissappointed spending a weekend beating this game.

Worth it for casual gamer

As a casual gamer, I really enjoy being fully engrossed in the story and the lush environments, which are amazing, but do not distract from the gameplay. There are some puzzles and challenges, so it is not boring (to me), but I have NOT found the puzzles too frustrating so far (unlike Myst). The puzzles are more like the original Zelda in difficulty. An in-game guide gives you hints, and tutors and side quests help you learn to use your character's skills to the best of their abilities. Choosing different characters, and using each character's skills to solve a puzzle makes the game interesting. There are also skill upgrades for the characters, which adds further interest to the game. Switching between characters is easy and intuitive. The characters move fluidly and accurately (unlike that last Tomb Raider in the series... Angel of Darkness?). Like Halo, there are frequent automatic saves that seem to occur after or before significant events (hardly noticeable, no lag time). These saves are a boon to me; I don't have to search for save points, and I have the freedom to turn off the game at anytime. However, I am enjoying this game so much, that I find it hard to leave it. If I did leave the game for long enough for me to forget what I was doing, an in-game book will remind me of my current objective. I don't know if hardcore gamers who like FPS (DOOM, QUAKE, CALL of Duty, etc.) will enjoy this... So far, no adrenaline rushes. I write "so far," because I have only played this game a few hours so far. Hopefully, the good will continue. Also! I can play this game around my 6 and 7 year old boys, and not have to worry about mature content and language. They like helping me solve the puzzles, and sharing taking turns with me. Actually, they solve more puzzles than I do... Like I said, this is a casual gamer's review.

Finally, a game for girls

For anyone out there who is sick of *all* games being geared towards guys, Kameo is the game for you. It's fun, not too violent, not so challenging that you have to spend another $15 on a player's guide, and the best part is that the main character is a girl - and not a gun-toting impossibly-proportioned femme fatale a la Lara Croft (or worse, a fashion and makeup obsessed bimbette like Barbie), but a fairy. It may sound cheesy, but that is what excited me the most about this game. The graphics are superb, the gameplay is great; an altogether good game.

Can you believe Microsoft has managed to provide two count em two incredible titles at launch? Perfect Dark is the first and this is the second. This game is sooo much fun. And better still, this game is sooo creative. For me personally, there is nothing better than a creative, fun, action packed platformer with Character. This game has those in spades. Finally microsoft has a mario rival. Only this character takes the shape of several different monsters all of which are insanely fun to play. Oh, and by the way. The game is beautiful.

Bottom Line: Buy this and perfect dark and you will have avery merry Christmas.

Highly entertaining, well designed adventure

I reserved this game for the Xb360 launch after reading good reviews from several major gaming web sites.

The game immediately starts in a sort of crash-course adventure, where you are taught how to control three of the 10 characters available in the game. You have no choice but to spend 15-30 minutes wondering where is the game introduction? What am I doing? At the end, you sort of start from scratch, with a mission to recover those 3 elemental warriors as well as seven others who will help you in completing your quest. Later on you'll realize that this was the best option to get you prepared for the rest of the adventure.

The adventure is linear, especially inside the temples; you just keep going forward defeating the evil trolls. The fights are constant and challenging and with so many warriors in your control, there's almost no repetitive combat.

My favorite part of the game was in the Badlands, where I had the chance to climb on a horse and ride past literally hundreds of computer generated trolls fighting with your soldiers. Looking closer I could see their health status dropping on both the trolls and the guards, then I got too close and the trolls headed in my direction, and my soldiers behind them, amazing AI! With all this happening, I also had to dodge blazing cannonballs that spurt dirt and debris when they hit the ground. Then you add the epic background music (from the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Kings Choir) and it felt like I was being part of a scene of the Lord of the Rings movie, you really have to see it to believe it.

All emotion aside (my heart is still pumping from that last paragraph) I highly recommend this game, it's pretty impressive for a launch title. It's also not that difficult, which is great for younger kids and mature players alike. The built-in auto-save feature worked effectively by saving your progress immediately after completing an important fight or event. I never found myself backtracking because of a missed save.
By the way, play this game on a high definition TV if you have the chance and witness the difference in quality, you'll be surprised.

This game offers lots of fun for young and adult audiences. The Teen rating is too conservative in my opinion; I never saw anything resembling blood in this game. I guess an E rating would give the impression that this was a kiddie title, a turn-off for some gamers these days, believe it or not.

This game was great alough it was quick i do not care it is one of the kids games you can get on the Xbox. I love the company to, Rare is so cool. I say if any game is made by Rare is GOING to be Great.

Love the graphics & the easy gameplay even though I beat it in one day its very fun to play again there hasn't been a game I haven't beat until I came across this one game called F.E.A.R so if your lookin for a challenging game that would be the one but overall this game is fun to play & I recommend anyone to play this at least once

Got me hooked right away...

Despite the graphic, the game is additively fun! The game rated is T for Teen but adults can play it too. I have tons of fun playing this game and solving the puzzle together with my 9 year old daughter.

You play a girl named Kameo that can morph into several different kinds of forms or what they call them "elementals." After you pass the first section, you'll lose all these elementals and you have to work really hard through different realms to get them again one by one. That's the gist of it.

If you want to take a break killing monsters, get this game!
