This game is nothing more than a revamped version of the first two. However, the controls are even worse and the camera often leaves you facing some other direction than which you are seeing. You continually have to press L1 to readjust the camera. The levels are almost exactly the same as the previous games. Combat is flat out stupid and there is only one new feature that lets you gain new combo moves by piling up stealth kills. That's fine and dandy but the combo moves gained are combat inefficient. Waste of money, waste of time. Terrible.
This is not a game to buy, but worth renting

This game is pretty fun the first time around but it only takes about 5 hours to beat. Then you can try and do it with a different character on the exact same levels with slightly different situations, you'll find that beating a level the first time is pretty fun but doing it again is just an annoying chore.
The graphics are excellent for the opening video and the main characters, but thats it all the other characters graphics are second rate and the surroundings have horrible lighting and barely any detail.
The plot has to be the worst part about this game, but if you would buy it based on everything i said before this your probally not the kind of person that cares about the plot, you just wanna kill some people right? well even that is no fun at all, you sneak up behind them press square and it shows rikimaru either slitting their throat, stabbing them in the back, or a couple of other action sequences, killing like this is fun for the first level than its just old. If you want a game for killing just go to Devil May Cry or Devil May cry 2.
Overall this game just isnt worth buying, if you want to buy a ninja game that is challenging fun and has replay value go for Shinobi. Dont make the mistake of buying it like i did becuase then you'll just end up selling it on ebay 5 days later.
BTW: The last boss has to be a joke hes easier than fighting ayame's imposter, its hard to get close but before the last level just stock up on shurikens and pick them up on the way, when you fight tenrai simply avoid his lame attacks and throw them at him one at a time. This game has horrible A.I. when compared to other stealth games Like Metal Gear Solid 2.
This series needs something more...

I've played all the other Tenchu games to date and this one is definetly better than the second one they tried to pass over as a game ahwile back. But it stops there - there is nothing really new here at all. This game is very similiar to the first Tenchu in many aspects but not new in many at all. Controls and sounds are pretty close - with some new power-up moves and ways of rewarding the stealthier ninja players.
One thing I can not stand is the fact that there is no savepoints in the game. You screw up in the middle of a level, or how about falling off a cliff at the end of a level, and you can just kiss your 30min of perfect stealth kills goodbye, cause you get to start over from the beginning, oh what joy.
If you liked the first Tenchu - this has the same basic formula and will not dissapoint. If you like for developers to expand on ideas and actually try to improve their games, look elsewhere. This is a graphics update and story change from the first Tenchu in a nutshell. Decent game, great idea with the stealth kills but bad design descisions for the player to enjoy themselvs.

i love stealth action adventure games.
but this game is not as no far from as addictive as
MGS2 so i asked my self why?
the fact that it did not have a built in RADAR
quite annoying. yes it didnt have radar i don't know if i
get or earn such item but i started pretty rough.
no radar ? splinter cell ,mgs2? imagine that.
i wont recomend it to single players but dual player might
enjoy the game.

This game is hard. There are 30 missions, which are bland. As for replay value in single player mode... It really isn't there. "But you can stealth kill!" There is little motivation to stealth kill once you get 10(then you get a new ability). There is really no story what-so-ever. It also gets a little moronic when you have to fight a bunch of undead. Pretty soon you just stop fighting real people. It is kinda retarted.
As I said just now, enemys are stupid. The AI is terrible. Then the monsters... my gosh the creativity partment is lacking. Demons are terrible at doing anything. Then there are a bunch of wooden robots. What? Wooden Robots? Apparently wooden robots die when you slit their wooden throats. It's almost as if the creators got bored, because I did. The stealth kills are alright though.
Environments suck. The game is pretty much stealth kill ahoy. Sometimes it is a little moronic when enemys give up after 3 seconds of searching. Seriously. They will literally stop looking for you after a couple seconds.
After you do some bland areas the game isn't so bad. It is still not a worthy investment though. Let me break it down.
Pros:
Stealth Kills
Ninjas
Cooperative mode
Cons:
Bland levels
Pathetic story line
Horrendously moronic AI
Stupid bad-guys.
Could have been great!

Good graphics, great concept, great story, immersive gameplay - ALL of this completely ruined by terrible, uncontrolable camera angles. To me it wasn't worth the 5 dollars I paid for it on eBay. All they had to do was fix the camera...unbelievable.
Not a Very Good Stealth Game

I played this right after I played Splinter Cell. For those of you that played Splinter Cell, you know that Splinter Cell is a near perfect stealth game. But Tenchu is just a dumbed down stealth game in comparison.
First of all, the point of the game is to get stealth kills. I didn't like that aspect at all. The point of being a ninja is to go through the mission undetected without leaving traces. But you're just jumping around and leaving bodies everywhere.
Also, the AI is stupid. I'm so used to Splinter Cell where the enemies can hear you sneak up behind them if you're not careful. But here you don't have to stalk. You just run up and kill them. They also give up too easily. You can hide behind a tree and they'll get stumped.
Finally the camera is horrible. It is very hard to actually sneak if you can't monitor the enemy because the camera is being retarded. I think this game might be a little more fun if the camera work was better.
Almost there

This one should have been great. And in many ways, it's a solid game. The awesome thing about the Tenchu series is that it revolved around a very simple goal: killing people. There's nothing complicated about Tenchu; you simply stalk your prey, and then you strike. This was perfected in Playstation's original Tenchu, which is still a very good game. The first Tenchu was balanced: graphics, control, re-play value, all solid. But then the sequel, or, actually, prequel, was released. While blessed with an ambitious story-line, the graphics were poor, and so was were the controls, which left fans disappointed. Tenchu 3: Wrath of Heaven was supposed to make up for it. How? By basically re-doing the first game. And here is Tenchu 3's central strength -- and weakness. Sure, it's fun re-visiting an old world, enjoying the new and improved graphics, but nearly everything has a "been there-done that" feel to it. Which, I suppose if you never played the first one, it doesn't matter. But for the rest of us, the lack of originality wears thin. I mean, they even rerecorded much of the soundtrack from the first game.
And then there is the combat. Let's face it, stealth might be the goal, but sometimes you just gotta fight. Like it or not. In the original Tenchu, fighting was almost more fun than stealth, as the fight engine was very friendly. But in WOH, the fight engine is terrible. You just have to hack away and sort of hope you win. No fun at all. And worse, the camera can be very troublesome. Very frustrating. Fortunately, the AI is so pathetically stupid, you just need to turn a corner and the enemy will lose you. "I lost him!" Yeah, sure you did. One cool addition to the Tenchu series is the Kuji meter: you get nine stealth kills, and you get a new ability. And those abilities are definitely worth earning. True to the series, WOH is a very violent game. Nothing like driving a katana through someone's skull to put a smile on your face. With 26 missions to complete, and multiple layouts, there's enough here to keep you busy for awhile; but the camera, control, and fight-engine issues keep WOH from surpassing the original Tenchu. Hopefully, someone will get it right one day.
plenty of action - not enough stealth

These days the term "stealth action" is used so often around the gaming industry its ever-broaden definition ranges from titles like MGS franchise to Splinter Cell to Hitman to many other less-known imitators. To many the notion of out-smart your foes is much more rewarding than blasting them into pieces. Techu:WOH falls somewhere in between that line though it offers greater amount of gore, blood and various type of instant-kills where you character sneaks up from behind the unfortunate and quite deaf guard and slice his throat or break his spine. In fact, it is the preferred way to eliminate the enemies you encounter because AI is quite effecient in blocking your attack should you choose to greet them face-to-face.
Control of this game can be quite cumbersome from time to time as WOH offers more than a few slick moves you can perform while investigating the surroundings and fighting for your life. Tricky camera angles can present the source of frustration for some. Over all the game's fast pace proves to be quite entertaining and the co-ops mode allows you to have more ways of taking out guards than you can ever imagine...
Words of advice - if you constantly find yourself being surrounded by multiple guards who's trying to stick their spears through you, you are not playing this game right.
Great.....BUT

This game is great but it fails to acomplish its goal to be the best of the series. I hope Tenchu 4 will improve in all its aspects.
Here are the pros and cons for the game.
Pros:
-Awsome graphics.
-New stealth kills.
-New hidden player.
-New moves.
-Bonus stage
-Creative new bosses.
-Co-op mode.
-Realisticly bloody and violent.
-New hidden outfits
Cons:
-Some of the old stealth kills are gone!!!
-Can't drag and hide bodies anymore. Someones bound to see them.
-Hereos move too slow (rikimaru was sprinting in the intro).
-Can't sheath weapons anymore... less realistic.
-Some of the levels are played twice, just starting at the opposite end. Too repetitive
-No more backflips!! that was my favorite move and helped during boss fights!
-Can't stealth kill animals. This game is suppose to be real.
-Why does the first boss that rikimaru fights say the same line as
that first boss from Tenchu 1?!? It's annoying and not original.
-Can't press start/select to restart a level in case you mess up
-Can't swim in stealth anymore.
-Rikimaru's hidden long sword makes him move even slower!! Is it really that heavy?
-Rikimaru's hidden armour makes him move to slow and jump less higher.
-Ayame's face looks kinda chubby.
-Can't use Tatsumaru in co-op mode.
-WEAK explanation to show how rikimaru came back from the first game. He was hidding in a portal? It would've been nice to do a couple stealth kills in that beginning forest before jumping off the cliff.
-Can't kill one shot with a boring arrow to the head or chest.
-Rikimaru's feign death technique can barely kill an enemy because
most of the time, he's facing the wrong way.
-Ayame's sexy hidden outfit from Tenchu 1 is gone!!!
-The enemy AI is weak, for instance if your seen the enemy will get startled for a few seconds and than will act like nothing happened. They won't even be more cautious than they were.
The number of cons over the pros speaks for itself, and there's propably more problems I forgot to mention. Great for anyone who's never played Tenchu before and just wants to have fun. Bad for anyone expecting a better all around game from the previous two. They tried to make this game realistic but most of the cons gets annoying and unbearable over time. 3 stars just because i'm a long time Tenchu fan.
