I loved this game. I practically never put it down until it was over, (which was very disappointing when that happened). This was the first real game I have played on my DS and the interaction with the game was so fun. It was a blast to figure out the puzzles. If you playedLegend of Zelda The Wind Waker then you're sure to love this game as I did. It was fun to be "back" in the same world. I was a little disappointed in some areas because Wind Waker was so elaborate, at least for me, and Hour Glass fell a little bellow my expectations. Still it was a great immersive game and horribly addicting.

Any fan of Zelda remembers when the GameCube was coming out and one of the first trailers for it was the mature link and gannondwarf battling it out in beautiful 3D graphics. Any fan would also remember what came after that. 3D Cell Shaded graphics with a funny little child link running around a cartoonish world. Some liked the change in direction, some hated it. The thing that both can agree on though is that the game was innovative and fun while staying true to the core nature of a Zelda title. Phantom Hourglass is the continuation of this story and Nintendo is showing it's fans that they can take the title to smaller hardware, throw in new ideas and gameplay and still keep true to the series and the original title.
Being one who just recently finished playing my copy of Twlight Princess, I found it to be quite the change to go back to the cartoon'ish appearance. Not to say it was a negetive change, I felt it a refreshing change to see brighter colors again. The colors werent the only changes I was seeing as well. The controls where different as well and they are amazing. They are extremely responsive and well thought out. I am able to set the DS on a table and play it with merely one hand if I wish to and it still works out with little to no issues. The one problem with the controls I do have is it is sometimes hard to make Link roll when you want him to. This in no way shape or form ruins any of the gameplay though.
I'll be breif with this. The story is up to par with other Zelda titles. The controls and graphics are just the best you can find on the system and the sound is classic Zelda reborn. If your a fan of the series and especially the wind waker game, you must go out and buy this right now.

I've played nearly every Zelda game in the series. At first I was a little put off by the need to use the stylus with this game but quickly grew to love it. I was disappointed with the Twilight Princess for the Wii as I didn't really enjoy the grown up version of Link or the non-top down look and the world that felt very linear. This game has returned to the original style and represents link in his more childlike appearance and a more traditional Zelda world.
The graphics are great, they are 3D but displayed in the classic top-down angled view. I really enjoyed the ability to write on the maps and make notes. Through out the game you will find yourself returning to old dungeons to conquer challenges that require new items that makes the game feel non-linear.
The online player-vs-player game is fun but hard. There are definitely a lot of players online that have mastered the few playing fields and have really figured out how to win quickly.
Before this game the classic Super Nintendo "A Link to the Past" title was my favourite in the series, but this has now surpassed that game.

Stylus controls are very easy to maneuver after you get used to them, boss battles are a bit easy but fun to figure out, game play is fun and entertaining and so are le characters and story. Stylus controls are easier to use then regular D-pad.
Another top game in the DS lineup!

I'm a long time fan of the Zelda series, having owned every game except Twilight Princess for Wii. First off I must say the graphics are outstanding for such limited hardware specs are the DS. Its like playing Windwaker on a portable gaming system. The gameplay also stays faithful to its predecessor.
At first I thought the requirement of the stylus throughout all gameplay would hinder the game. It actually makes it much easier to play especially in combat where you can simply point at an enemy instead of have to move your character all around. Another great use of the touchscreen is the fact that you can draw notes on maps so there is no need to memorize where things are located. This is invaluable particularly when in dungeons. Also drawing the path of the boomerang using the stylus makes it so much easier to target objects.
The developers have made excellent use of the touchscreen. I always thought it was a simple gimmick but this game has proved me wrong.
Best DS game so far.

I would easy vote this the best DS game so far. Great controls and fun gameplay just exploring the vast seas and islands. It somewhat easy for Zelda veterans though.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is the newest Zelda came from Nintendo, for the ever popular DS handheld console. Phantom Hourglass continues where the Zelda: Wind Waker left off. It's your typical Zelda story, much like all of the others. One cool new feature with this Zelda game is it doesn't use the directional pad to move you character. Instead, you use the stylus to control Link. I have mixed feelings regarding this, it works pretty well but I still feel that I would have preferred the option to use the standard buttons. Nintendo used some really innovative features with the DS handheld that hasn't been done before and I think they really pulled it off with this game. The graphics are very good for the DS, probably the best so far on the handheld. Overall I highly recommend Zelda if you've played them before and enjoyed them or if you're looking for a quality title to pick up for the DS!

I got this for my daughter for her Birthday. She enjoys playing it. It uses the full extent of the touch screen for the DS. The graphics are the bubble head style. DD found this enjoyable and easy to play.
Not as fun as I remember, but a solid game for newcomers

I've played nearly every Zelda game since the beginning (when I was 6) and I love the genre. Over the years, and that's a lot of years, the fundamental formula has never gotten old for me. There were a few games that strayed from the mainstream Zelda theme, and they were not as good because of it, but overall Zelda has been a great franchise and an excellent series of games.
This iteration of the Zelda series in particular I have found to be uninspiring. While I admit I'm not far into the game, it's mainly because I'm so bored by the game that I can't commit the time to playing it. I never played windwaker and so the characters, style, and plot seems foreign to me. Also, where the heck is Zelda? The name Tetra doesn't mean anything to me, but I can guess there must be some relation. Still, so far I don't like any of the characters and the controls take some getting used to. Maneuvering through obstacles is not very intuitive (like zig zags of fire that make me stretch across each side of the screen) but managable.
As for my girlfriend just started playing video games and has never played Zelda before. She absolutely adores it, and even bought her own pink DS to play it on. I can see the appeal to girls or kids, but I find it difficult as a grown man to relate to this cutesy sprite protaganist and the other childish characters. It just bores me. The Wii game was better since it has a darker, grittier feel that I could get into.
If the buyer of this product is a kid, a girl, a kid-girl, is new to zelda games in general, or just really likes having adventures with little kids in green, I would highly recommend this product. Otherwise, I would recommend that you try some of the other Zelda games. As I said, the series is a timeless classic but this one game seems like an abherration.
