Thrasher: Skate and Destroy is truly a classic game for various reasons that have mostly been stated so i'll summarize my thoughts like this:
1. Realism. While most skateboarding games are completely off the wall, Thrasher stays pretty much in touch with the reality of skateboarding. It is a lot more rewarding to pull off a difficult trick, and often times you need to practice before you actually can. I have to believe that most haters of this game didnt play long enough to learn the tricky controls. Another big plus is the realism of the environment. Don't expect to be doing a FS boardslide down a dinosaurs back in a museum in Thrasher, but instead famous real world skate spots that are a good emulation of the real thing (such as the old brooklyn banks, washington square park, etc).
2.Soundtrack. The music in S&D is for all intents and purposes, a crash course in classic hip-hop and electric funk, which was an awesome surprise when I bought it after its release. No poppy punk garbage with whiny ear splitting hooks here. Just raw, classic rap that compliments the grimey urban terrains perfectly. Sure to be overlooked or frowned upon by anyone who doesn't remember those days of skating.
3.Replay Value. Answer this question. Have you ever been through three copies of one game? I know that most all of my games sit on the shelf after a couple of months of play, but even after my first disk got scratched beyond repair, then the next copy went MIA, I STILL had to find myself another copy. Thrasher has come so close to making the next best thing to actually skating, that it is a shame they abandoned their efforts in the video game market (assumably due to low sales from bad marketing).
I can't say enough about this game...spend a couple of bucks and take a chance on a masterpiece that was forgotten in the world of THPS.

As a skater, i kind of get tired of tony hawk's crazy unreal skating. This is the perfect solution. The tricks are all real, this is all real skating. Have you ever tryed doing a nice little kickflip fs board, on a handrail in tony hawk? What happens? You're on and your off, no time to enjoy it. But no this game. This game is awesome. I played the demo, and rented the game and absolutly loved it. I was looking for it on ebay for the longest time but i think I'm just going to buy it off here. Great game and i recomend it to everyone skater who is bored of the nonsense of Pro Skater.

I love the tony hawk games. I've got all of them and I look forward to the next one... that being said it is important for me to tell you that I have been playing the same game "thrasher" for the entire duration the tony's have been coming out.
maybe it's the video game crime of the century, because there are 5 tony's soon to be 6, and only one thrasher. can you imagine what this game would have turned into in 5 sequels? just the fact that I still play it after 5 years should tell you something.
I'll also tell you that the game is pretty hard, and yeah the fall animations can get annoying. but, that's just it - after you master the controls and flow, and I mean master it, you won't fall for what seems like forever. and when you do fall, you adjust - like the game becoming part of you.
I don't know, but as a skater, I prefer this one over tony, and that's all skaters got, really?
Sweet and REAL

Ok, ill admit it Tony Hawks Pro skater is definently fun with its wacky jobs to perform and the crazy worlds u skate in. I myself skateboard and am gettin kinda tired of the "out of this world" game where u can do jus about ne thing u can think of. Thrasher Skate and Destroy is awesome for the reason its realistic. It's hard, but thats how skateboarding is. You can't go and ollie up 10 stairs and pull of huge combos of tricks on this game or in real life. Id say this game is next best thing to actually skateboarding, gettin chased by pigs, being slammed on some of the tricks, and the overal realism. Ok ive said more then most read lol doubt ne one reads down to here. If you liek skateboarding, this game is for you. (...)
awsome game and even better soundtrack

this game is weird, graphics wise, compared to the stunning tony hawks pro skater 1-4, but most that own the game would say they are equal. the fact that the crashes are never the same, unlike tony hawk's pro skater 1-4, makes this game perfect for me. and the soundtrack, lets just say i wish they wouldve put it on cd. note that tony hawk's pro skater moves incredibly fast compared to real life, unlike thrasher, which moves realistically with no extreme sharp turns handling 50 g's with ease (lol).
i have owned this game once before but it went through a lot of abuse from freinds. i have just purchased it again because my copy was damaged beyond repair/use, and the fact that i love the game. i hope you like this game if you buy it, and pay attention to the wrecks cause they are some real comedy.
WORST GAME EVER!!

I have played the demo, and I could not believe how horrible this game was.
1. The characters in this game can't skate, they hardly get any air
2. Controls are hard
3. I have to unplug the controller to pause the game (pressing start will start some kind of police chase)
4. When I wipeout, it shows it in slow motion which is really anoying
5. lame soundtrack
if u want a good game then get one of the tony hawk pro skater games, whoever chooses this the best over tony hawk, they must have a monkey controling their brain

This game is possibly the worst heap that I have ever had the displeasure of sitting through. This isn't fun. This is a torturous test of endurance. In an attempt to make it vaguely true to life the designers seem to have COMPLETELY neglected the game play element of it. Whoever says the controls are easier than Tony Hawks Pro Skater series is obviously being paid vast sums to do so because they are completely counter-intuitive. The graphics are terrible, the whole game is slow and the soundtrack (which could be good) gets tiresome since the game will only play two of its tracks.
That it is more realistic than THPS series I'm not disputing. But I've got something else which is even more realistic - actually going for a skate. If you've a penchant for putting yourself though absolute misery then go and buy this game, because playing it is akin to watching paint dry while simultaneously having a red hot poker inserted slowly through one eye. Except worse. Oh dear. Martin, where do we keep that poker these days?
This Game is #1!!!!!

Ok let's face it everyone likes Tony Hawks Pro Skater even people who don't skate....but i am telling you if you are a skater (not a poser) and you are sick of how fake Tony Hawks Pro Skater is then this game is for you. The graphics aren't the best but hey no game is perfect, but the gameplay is so awsome! most of these moves are actually possible to do! And i know that alot of you skaters out there are looking for a realalistic skateboarding game well here ya go this game is hard it's a challenge not impossible it's a chalange to do big tricks and doing the big tricks most of em are still possible i highly recomend this game to any one who wants a realaistic skateboarding game!

This game blows T. H.'s Weak Skater out of the running. The controls are easier the re-play value is higher, and the tricks are better and there is no stupid time clock until you want it. The graphics are tight and the hidden characters are a blast. This game is totally off the hook. I love everything about this game. In fact, it needs a sequel with more of everything.
I can vouch for the fact that even if you hate or despise real life skateboarding you can't help but getting 100 percent addicted to this nonstop in-your-face kicking video game. I especially enjoyed the hidden stunt areas and the unbelievable scenery. Buy it NOW, you will not regret it.
U want realism? Come here!

Thrasher is honestly one of the best games I have ever played. It is so good that anyone who liked Tony Hawk's (1 or 2) should try it; if you didn't like either try it. Ok, maybe the graphics aren't so good but that ain't what matters. This game has all the (realistic) tricks you are ever gonna do. If you want 720 flip's then play THPS. But if you want true tricks (such as FS Kickflips and Varialflips) then play this. Oh, and, there are no specials, (who the hell thought of that in THPS!) but moves your character gets when you complete the game. In one word, "ACE". Play it, now!
