I bought this game after reading the reviews and thought cool this is the best sega game. It is kinda fun but it takes an hour to get to level six. I wish you could start at a level like six instead of starting back at the begining. It needs a memory card or something. To long to play. If you know a way of starting the game other than at the starting level let me know

Its not too bad

I have a copy of this game that I bought in 1992 when I bought a Sega Genesis. Even though Sonic Hedgehog 3 is has better graphics. This is still a great game. I suggest it to anyone who likes a good game.

Sonic 2 is the most popular of the original Sonic The Hedgehog games and after you play it, you'll notice that it's not anything like the first one. Myself, I liked the original Sonic The Hedgehog the best, but Sonic 2 isn't a bad game at all. Some of the levels such as the Hilltop Zone and Mystic Cave Zone are awesome and imaginative. All the levels are fun and the game is a little bit harder than the first one, but not impossible. The bonus level had a bigtime facelift from the first one. In Sonic 2, you have to avoid spikes and collect as many coins as you can to get the emerald. This is the first game that starred the now well known tails and he can be a lot of help at times. Another player can pick the 2nd controller up and control him at any time and he collects coins for you.

What most people probably don't know about the game that makes it even more fun is that you can hook it up with the Sonic & Knuckles game and it makes it even better because with Knuckles, you can climb walls and fly through levels. Overall, this is a great game to get and one of the best of the classic side scrollers.

remember the days when sonic had the finest graphics in the world well 2d or not even today id take sonic over quit a few xbox or ps2 games because sonic had so much class i mean hes a blue hedgechog who has a super saign {i dont know which one was made first sonic or dragonball z}. even though it had a lack of plot or how sega recycle a lot of the levels it was sheer brilliance i mean i used to love sonic and was sad when sega stopped making game consoles {i mean think of the classics alex kidd, eco the dolphin, soul calibur and lets never and i mean never forget kid chameleon}well no matter how old i get ill never forget when that little blue hedchog was revolutionary in terms of graphics, sound and length.

A video game classic (with good cheats)

I first played this game at my cousins house. I had played sonic 3 before, so I was eager to play sonic 2. Man, they don't make video gmes like this anymore. Simple, yet challenging, yet extremely fun. I got the code for level select and super sonic shortly after I beat the game. Go to options at the title menu, go to sound test, and put in 19,65,9,17. You'll hear a sound. Then, press c. The title menu will come on again. Hold down A and press Start. The level select will come up on the screen. Go to the sound test at the bottom of the screen, and put in 4,1,2,6. You'll hear a sound, now you can be super sonic! Go to any level you want, get 50 rings and jump.
I gave this game 4 stars instad of 5 because you can't make Tails fly. Otherwise, this is a video game classic.

Kiddy Game

This is more of a kiddy game because of its graphics from Sega. I played it so much that my eyes get dizzy following Sonic throughout the scene. Although, I think everyone should take dizzy pills because of how fast he is running. I know if you look down at his shoes, you will get dizzy.

Old game, but still fun!

Sonic 2 remains strangely the most famous Sonic game, played by more people than any of other Sonic Genesis games. This game presented a lot of changes over it's predecessor, Sonic 1.

Sonic 2 introduces the character "Tails," or Miles if you want to get techincal. Tails is a young two-tailed fox whom becomes good friends with and idolizes Sonic. In the game, the default character is Sonic and Tails, in which 1p is Sonic and the computer controls Tails, in which Tails mimics Sonics moves and follows him around. However, unlike Sonic 1, Sonic 2 is a 1p and 2p game, offering Tails as 2p in the newly added "verses" mode. With the 1p mode, you can play as Sonic and Tails, Sonic alone, or Tails alone.

Another addition to Sonic 2 is that there are seven chaos emeralds, not six. And, when Sonic gets all the emeralds, he can become Super Sonic (stronger, faster, and invincible to enemies). Unfortunatley, Tails cannot become super even if he gets all the emeralds.

Levels: There are 11 levels, with 2 zones each. This is a new setup from Sonic 1, which had 3-zone levels. I personally like the Sonic 2 setup better, for there are more levels and less zones per level (3 zones I think tend to make the levels a little boring after a while). The levels are moderatley challenging and are much more original than the levels in Sonic 1, which sometimes appear to be similar to one another, in my opinion.
Grade: 9.5/10
Best Level: Chemical Plant Zone (Level 2), Aquatic Ruin Zone (Level 3) (I have other favorites, but really with Sonic 2 it's to each his own when it comes to levels).

Graphics: Not bad, a big improvement from Sonic 1, but still very outdated by Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles standards. The features for the game are much more decorated (such as the protective shield and the star posts).
Grade: 8/10

Emerald Rounds: The emerald rounds in Sonic 2 introduce a 3d version of Sonic (and/or Tails) running through a long stretch in order to catch rings. These rounds seem easy at first but get VERY difficult VERY quickly. In fact, these rounds are quite possibly the most difficult emerald rounds in the Sonic Genesis line-up (possibly disputable with the Sonic 1 emerald rounds). Despite the fact that these rounds are a challenge, often I find that the higher levels are too much of a challenge, and I often get frustrated with them. I think that, for this reason, the rounds in Sonic 3 are a little easier.
Grade: 8/10

Characters: It's good to be able to play with Tails, but he doesn't seem to have much advantage, or even equal play when compared to playing Sonic. However, playing Sonic and Tails does have it's own advantages.
Grade: 8.5/10

Music: The music in Sonic 2 is MUCH better compared to Sonic 1, I believe. It's catchy and quite fun. I think that music from Sonic 2 is even superior than to that of it's predecessor, Sonic 3. Because there are so many different levels in Sonic 2, there are a lot more original themes. The thing I like about Sonic 2 is that, like I said before, all the levels are very different in setting and in theme, unlike Sonic 1. Some themes aren't that great, but the themes of levels such as Chemical Plant Zone and Metropolis Zone are quite fun to listen to. Take some time to listen to the themes of the verses mode as well, because even though the levels are the same, the themes are different.
Grade: 9/10

Bosses: The bosses start out easy but get challenging pretty quickly. However, I find that a lot of the bosses are easier than in Sonic 1. However, when it comes to the Death Egg Zone (the final boss round), the Sonic 2 final boss is much more of a challenge than the Sonic 1 final boss. Again, like Sonic 1, you are not able to have any rings in the final round.
Grade: 8.5/10

Sonic 2 is a classic Sonic Genesis game. Despite all the amazing, high-tech games today, Sonic 2 is still a very enjoyable game to play. It's too bad the Genesis wasn't as popular as it could have been. If you have Sonic and Knuckles, you can attach Sonic 2 to it and play Sonic 2 and Knuckles, which is basically playing Knuckles through all the Sonic 2 levels. Knuckles, with his gliding and climbing abilities, can explore places in the levels that Sonic never could.

Oh, and if you want the cheat for Sonic 2:
Go to options, go down to Sound Test. Put in and play the following sounds in the following order: 19, 65, 09, and 17. Once you play 17, you should here a small ring. Press start and it'll take you back to the start screen. Press A and then START, and it'll take you to the level screen.

Sonic 2--not the best, not the worst.

Well, I didn't get this game for the Genesis when it came out, but I got it about a year ago. And just today, I finally sat down and played through the first four zones. I have to admit, it is fairly fun. However, there is no save--so if you get really far and die, after you run out of continues, you have to start all over. That is one thing that subtracts a little from the fun. Some levels can be a little confusing as to where to go, and some can be quite challenging. That makes things interesting; however, not really interesting enough to make one want to play all the levels again to get back where they were. So, if you're looking for a challenge, get Sonic 2. If you want more fun and the ability to save, get Sonic 3.

Update: you really don't have to play the game over again if you want to get back to where you left off or died--just use the level select.
