let me start off by saying that i am very upset that this game got canceled on ps2- why???? ok i loved this game when it first came out, now i just got it again after playing all the other ps2 evil dead games and this is by far the best. the game takes the movies and puts its own twist on it, my favorite part is when you leave the house and you find a shovel and o there is your undead girfriend who just came out of her grave, then you kill her with the shovel just like in the movie!!! awsome. now i dont mind the controls or any of that i am so in love with how authentic this game is, in the secound cd you go back in time(just like the movies) and fight some medevil dedites. ok im not going to go to much further but bruce's voice is buck. if you like evil dead get this game the others for ps2 are ok but like i said this is pretty much exactly like the movies with its own twist.

Good for some but not others

My cousin actually gave me this game and when he did I was like all right another horror game yay! I thought this game would be fun but I was completely wrong.

The graphics are good and so is the music. The controls aren't to confusing but you honestly can't beat this game. Its very difficult. I tried to get some where in it 3 times but I finally gave up after the monsters kept killing my person.

If you're one of those people who love really difficult games that are hard to get any where in then this game is for you. But if you're one of those people who would at least like to get some where in the game this probably isn't the game for you.

Over all good graphics and music. Just to difficult to beat.

Evil Dead makes you evil mad... But it's worth it.

The most annoying thing about this game is that Ash, your hereo, has to find his own fuel for the chainsaw. Other than that and the unusual angles that the camera views abstract, the game is great. Unfortunately it reminds me of the days of genesis control functions where going up a hill made your character look strange on the screen but, it's evil dead! If you're a fan, you'd love it. I have to give the game one thumb up.... not bad for a begining.

Just look at the impovements since on the siblings, "fist full of boomstick" and "regeneration"

Worse Control Function EVER!!!

I love the films, I think the game set up is great, familular and fun. I think the graphics are okay by PS standards, but...

The Control is AWFUL!!!

The came is set up like a keyboard game for PC, up, back and... spin??? Yes, left and right spin the Ash!!! You have to spin him, then press up for forward, spin, press up, spin, press up.

Walking left...? SPIN, PRESS UP!!!

Walking right...? SPIN, PRESS UP!!!

Want to fight???

Too bad, your behind a tree, a wall, a rock and can't see your self to... are you ready??? Spin, then press up...

Did they play it before they released it? I can't believe they did.

Love the movies, hate the game.

Buy Fistful of Boomstick! Still too hard a game, but it plays correctly and that matters alot.

Now, if they would just make a real game they might learn there's a real market out there.

The dead rises again...

This game is a spectacular instalment of the past 90's movies "Evil Dead" and "Army of Darkness". It uses great voice overs (For instance... Bruce Cambell). The angle shots and graphics could use a little bit more progress but the button handling and controlling is great for a PS1 game of it's marvelous movie credencials. I reccomend this game for (...) teens everywhere.

Disappointing

The first foray of the cult Evil Dead horror movie series into video games began here with Evil Dead: Hail to the King. Using the Resident Evil formula of pre-rendered backgrounds with 3-D animated characters, Evil Dead suffers from poor polygon designs, clunky controls, and the same "find the key to open the door" type gameplay we've seen in games like the Resident Evil series and Alone in the Dark. Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell lends his voice to Ash and breathes some life into this otherwise dismal game, but the terrible control layout and configuration really bring this game down. The Dreamcast version was a bit better with improved graphic and sound quality, but all in all Evil Dead: Hail to the King is worth checking out for fans of the Evil Dead series or survival horror games only.

What's wrong with you people?

Well, I understand why you gave this game an average of 3/5 stars, but I don't think this way: I love this game!
I know the gameplay is bad sometimes. You get stuck close to an enemy so it hits you, and you have to wait a little bit to get out of there... There are lots of enemies, much more than a game should have (just imagine how boring Resident Evil would be if zombies just kept popping out of the ground in every single room).. But, even with all those bad things, this game still rules.

First of all, there is Bruce Campbell. He, friends, makes this game worth playing with his awesome voice acting, full of hilarious lines. Then, the graphics. The graphics are awesome! See, in Resident Evil, all scenaries are static, no movement. Here at Hail to the King, trees move, the fog moves.. I mean, every single room has movement, so the graphics are way best than average PSOne games. The CGs are awesome, one of the best you can find on PSOne, and Ash looks fine too. There are good varieties of enemies, good variety of scenarios (including fan's favorite ones like the Cabin, the Bridge...) the bosses are cool and the game, even though difficult, is totally possible to beat without GameShark if you train a little.
I think this is a must-buy for anyone who owns a PSOne and likes Mature games. I can already see all those non-helpful votes you'll give me, but I'll still love this game. And you'll too, if you give it a chance. It could've been better? Yes, obviously... But it's still a very good game and it stays true to the series.

Ash?

the graphics are sandy, but they look good. The characters are modeled well. Bruce moves odd. His face blurs a bit. Deadites respawn a bit too fast. And boss battles often end up with melee combat. But its good. I like it. One of my Favorite movies made into a Resident evilish game with chainsaws and shotguns.

The story devolpes well. And i have nearly mastered the game. Its a bit difficult but all and all its okay.

Horrible in the bad way

Evil Dead. When you hear those words you think true horror, deadites, or even good acting. This game features only one of those and im sad to say that the deadites are it. The game takes place sometime after the events in Army Of Darkness. Ash returns to the cabin with his new girlfriend. Just when it seems that things are going ok, Ash's hand returns and turns on the tape by Professor Knoby. The evil is unleashed and the game begins. The first thing i noticed was the bad camera angles that made me feel like i was in a third rate Resident Evil. The next thing was the incredible difficulty, even at the beginning. Lets take my least favorite part, leaving the cabin. Now as you walk outside you are immediatly confronted by a few "deadites". Ok so lets say you [destroy] them and decide to make sure there's nothing left in the cabin. You go back to the cabin and are confronted by the same deadites. The fights are repititious, boring, and far too difficult. This game is a true dissapointment.
