Classic Kirby

Solid gameplay overall. The thing that makes this game a must buy is the subgames and the final boss. It's an easy game to beat, you can beat it in an weekend afternoon, but the subgames offer replay value.

When it comes to games from Nintendo, Kirby has always been a favorite of mine. I've been playing his games since the early 90's, back when he was white instead of pink. Kirby Super Star was one of the best games that I played, back when I had my SNES. Luckly I found this at a local video game shop and did not hesitate to purchase it.

Nightmare In Dreamland is a very solid game. At first I thought it was a little difficult, mainly because Kirby is not easy to control (it took me a while that if you press up, he flies which as accounted for many lives lost). Next is the powers that you get when you swallow enemies. Most are the ones people are familar with (like the Beam, Ice, and the Parsol, as well as others). Some I haven't seen that are on here are UFO (Kirby flies around and shoots lazers), Ball (he bounces and hits enemies...I see no significance in), and the High Jump (he jumps and hits enemies above him...which I've gotten the hang of). The bosses at the end of each level will give a challange. Many I recognize, like that tree that dropps apples (forgive me, I cannot remember their names off the top of my head), the one eyed clowd that storms, Meta Knight, and King DeDeDe. You get to play mini games to earn extra lives like one where you ride the star and grind on rails. Another is the duel when you challange enemies and you have to press A when the "!!" pops up (if you played Kirby Super Star you'll know exactly what I'm talking about). The overall game is fun. It has it's easy and difficult moments but still fun. I managed to beat it in about 3 days (although it says I have about 87% completed, so I still have more to go). Fans of Nintendo games probably have this, but if not, get it. It's a shame that it's out of print (one day, I saw it being sold for $85.00 which is about the same as the console). If you search, you might be able to find it for less than $30. Enjoy. Peace!!

An all-around excellent installment of Kirby

This version of Kirby is arguably one of the most well-balanced and entertaining releases for the series. They did everything right, including the play control, game flow, original soundtrack, etc. Would highly recommend to anyone who has played a Kirby and is looking to add to their collection.

Man, this game is awesome!

Well, the title of this review says it all. This is a great game. If you complete the game 100%(opening all the sub games)you get to play the game on half vitality. If you complete that 100%, you get an extra sub-game, where you can play the entire game as Meta-Knight, which is great, because he's my favorite character. Buy this game. It's worth the money(of course, mine was free, because my friend gave it to me).

A fun ride...the second time around too!

It usually takes me weeks to finish a game, but I devoured this one in a day. Soon after finishing it,I started it again and enjoyed it just as much as before. I have now completed the game six times and aiming for seven. It is easy to play without being simplistic and entertaining while not too complicated. As I have said, the plot is somewhat thin,so don't be to dissapointed by this aspect. Overall, this is a fun game that can played quickly but can be enjoyed many times.

OVERALL SCORE:86/100

Kirby's glory days revisited on the GBA

Nightmare in Dream Land's story is simple: King DeDeDe has stolen the Rod of Dreams, which in turn takes away the people of Dream Land's dreams. It is up to Kirby to get it back and restore everyones dreams.

The gameplay is real basic, and to be honest, real fun. You run around the levels as Kirby who has the power to jump, inhale air and basically fly for a little bit, swim, and swallow hisenemies for thier abilities. There are roughly 30 moves, some exclusive to this NES remake, including shooting lasers, throwing large blade-boomerangs, turning into a tornadoe, or surrounding yourself with ice.

If you find certain secrets within the stages, you can unlock mini-games and an "ability gallery" which was cool. Some mini-games include grinding on a pipe and having to press "A" to jump over spiked portions of the railing while racing other colored Kirbys, or having to face-off with a handful of enemies by pressing "A" faster then they can so you can beat them up. There are more but I just don't feel like getting into it. As for the gallery, it's pretty sweet - you enter this room and usually there are 2 different abilities waiting for you to take them. Sadly, this game didn't borrow from the SNES smash hit "Kirby Super Stars" or even the N64 title "Kirby Crystal Shards" with the idea of combining abilities, but we can look past it for now.

The graphics are definitley an upgrade from the original NES title, and are very colorful and nice. The enemies style look unique and interesting, the abilities still look devastating, and levels are really nice looking for a GBA game. It sort of has a cartoon feel now that I think about it..

The music is great and really catchy. I can't really explain it - imagine it as sort of a techno beat, but much more...hmm..less serious and more experimental. The SFX are great as well - I love the sound of the bombs exploding or the firey sound.. superb. There isn't any talking in this game, but after witnessing the cartoon series and the N64 game of Kirby, I'm grateful for that.

Nightmare in Dream Land isn't really too hard of a game, and it isn't really a long game either. Sure there are maybe 7 different worlds with about 8 different stages within the worlds, but they fly by pretty quick and easily. What is kind of annoying is that sometimes the controls will be unresponsive - you'll be running forward, then wanna quickly turn around to attack an approaching enemy, but Kirby is still running forward and BAM you get hit. I'm not going to type out the ending, but lets just say it was sorta dissapointing.

To finish it up, I highly suggest you atleast play this game. Yes, it gets repetitive, but with it's basic side-scrolling gameplay, nice graphics, interesting levels, and wide array of abilities & mini-games, how could you truley get bored? Better yet, its a remake of an old NES game, and a good one at that. Go and play Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland if you haven't already.

Cute and fun.

I like this game. Amazing Mirror has more copy abilities, but I can't figure that game out. This one is easier. I like Kirby, Frogger: Temple of the Frog, and Zapper.

Too damn easy!

I love this game plenty, but I beat it in two days WITH all the bonus rooms (except one which I think is utterly impossible to find, the last door on world 7 I just can't find the stupid button it makes me mad) in less than two days. This game is very easy, it's so easy that your ego will surely be boosted to it's maximum level when playing this. There is one thing I like is the boss endurance, which is HARD! I like that, I like it hard... ha ha...

This is sooooo fun!!!!!

I had played one on Game Boy way back and the one on N64 but I couldn't remember if I enjoyed them or not. BUt I got this game anyway based on the back of the box. And boy I am not dissapointed because this game is great.

Concept: You play as Kirby, a pink blob with arms which can suck up the powers of enemies. It is extremely fun even if it doesn't sound all that engaging.

Story: King DeDeDe was taking a bath in the Fountain of Dreams and apparently he took the Star Rod(the source of power for the Fountain of Dreams). He then broke it into pieces and gave a piece to each of his underlings. Now Kirby has to get all the pieces and restore peaceful naptimes to the residents of Dream Land.

Graphics: Simple, charming, and appealing. Bright colors perk up the background and character models.

Sounds: Catchy sounds and fun music.

Gameplay: Very simple. Down-Duck, A-Jump, & Left or Right- Walk. Double tap Left or Right-Run. Tapping A more than once and Kirby floats. B-suck enemies and after you suck one tap Down then you obtain their power. That about all there is too it.

Overall: Very simple yet entertaining enough to keep playing. Trying to get 100%, fun mini-games, half-life mode, and the ability to play as meta-knight give this game great replay value.
