Fun Game!!

Spiderman is a very cool game for the N64. It's fun and challenging. The graphics are spectacular; better than the playstation version. It supports expansion pak for even better graphics and you MUST have a controller pak to save your game. The sound is good, just as good as the playstation version. HOWEVER, all the Full Motion Videos(FMV) in the playstation were cut out and replaced with a comic book pictures with sound effects. I liked the psx FMV better than the comic book though. MOST IMPORTANTLY are the controls. They're just awful. The standard for N64 controls is the B button for attacking and A for jumping. In spiderman, C down is used for punching, C left kicking. B button is used for zipping upwards on a web line which you hardly use. I've been playing for 7 hours and still haven't gotten used to the controls. So all in all, if you can stand missing the FMV, and the awful control scheme, you'll love this game every bit as much(if not more) than the playstation version. I give it a 4/5 stars because of the bad control and lack of FMV.

very good

This game is the world's best superhero game. You can do anything Spider-Man can. Cling to anything, shoot a webline. If Spidey does it, you can! At least, once you get use to the controls. And all the enemies look great!

A little disappointing but the best Spider Man game so far.

I thought I would wait til I finished to review this game, but I have grown very tired of having to start at the beginning of each level over and over. There are checkpoints in the levels, but I often stop in the middle and leave the game on and it always hangs so I have to reload from my nvram pack which saves only at the start of the level.

Rants : annoying game save. It can only see one controller so you are constantly swapping in and out your rumblepack.

poor control. there are some mortal combat like sequences which cause certain web events and combos, but they only work one time out of two for me so they are pretty useless when fighting.

web swinging is essentially 2d. You have no momentum side to side.

Spider sense is never helpful.

The action getting to some of the bosses is boring. Reminicent of some of the early LucasArts jedi games.

Raves : Well its spiderman, the sounds and voices are good, the enemy AI is fine, and the bosses are all challenging so far. Its fun to have spider powers in a 3d space too.

Conclusion : I think team mario could have really done something with this concept. This plays like a lazy port from an inferior platform (which I guess it is), but its still a must have for spiderman fans.

Spiderman is back

I haven't finished the game yet but, It is so fun that I have to write this review. This game is quite challanging from the start and it becomes pretty easy after awhile. For example the first stage: you must protect all of the hostages, one of them cannot die. If they do you start all over. It takes even strategy to make that not happen. This game is pretty much the same as the psx version but, the fmv's are missing but it is no biggie you do get clips as it was like a comic book. The sound and voices in the background are so spectacular, who ever thought that the 64 could handle that. The controls I have to agree is quite akward, whoever heard of punches and kicks on the c-buttons. But, you'll get used to it. I am giving this 5 stars still even if doesn't have the fmv's. Remember the fmv's are to relax and watch while the game play is what is important. Have a nice day.

Dissapointing

This game is OK, but there is one big problem with it. My friend brought his to my house the other day and I began playing it. And in, at the most, 2 hours, I beat it! No memory pak needed. There are only like 5 or 6 bosses in the game and the rest is just mindless slinging from one thing to another killing all the baddies. There are so many mini little puzzle type things that are just too easy and useless. He brought it over again last night and I beat it again--on hard difficulty. This game was a great idea, and the graphics and sound are great... but c'mon guys, you coulda done better than that.

The worst game I have ever played

I bought this game because it had Superman on the front. Big mistake. The graphics are horrible and far too simple for the N64. The gameplay is awkward and hard to control. But the worst part of this game is the story. It took about 2 seconds to think up and the game spends just as much time on the storyline. The whole point is boring- flying through endless hoops and other monotonous unexciting tasks. This game is horrible. Buy Spiderman instead- at least you wont want to throw Spiderman out of the window.

A must have for Spidey fans!

Most games based on Superheroes are bad and do not include all of the heroes moves. Spiderman has all the moves from super strength to spidersense and is an excellent game. You can not only play as Spiderman, playable characters include, scarlet spider , capt. univrse and much more.I found this game similar to the original Fighting Force on PSX. Spiderman sports nice graphic, sound ,play control, and is very fun. It is a must have for spidey fans, but even others may love it.Try it, it is a great game.

A Fantastic Game

If I hear one more sob story about what this game lacks, i think i'm gonna puke. The fact is that whatever shortcomings this game has, there's more than enough fun to overshadow them. I have beaten the game several times and I still haven't become tired of it. I don't think that swinging across the rooftops of New York will ever get boring-- but besides that, the player has at his disposal almost all of those wonderful spider-man powers, allowing you to explore every inch of the 3D environment. There are simple attacks for the newcomer, and more advanced web maneuvers to learn as you progress. Level objectives range from saving hostages to evading capture to the good old-fashioned boss beat-em-up. And once you're done, you get to go back and unlock all those secrets you missed the first time, definite replay value. There are four difficulty levels, easy, medium, hard, and a "kid mode" with adapted controls and gameplay for litle guys. And after seeing and playing both PSX and N64 versions, I can honestly say this really is a superior port of an excellent playstation game, a feat rarely seen. Spider-man is compatible with the expansion pack for Hi-res graphics, although it looks excellent without one. The only thing missing from the PSX version is the FMV cutscenes, but these were replaced with an ingenious "slide-show" feature, making the comic book theme that much stronger. This is definitely the best super-hero game I've ever played. If you like Spider-man, action games, or just fun in general, do yourself a big favor and buy this game. P.S.-If you are one of the unfortunate souls who were duped into buying Superman, this game will restore your faith in comic book licenses. I promise.

You go, Tiger!

Whoever wrote that dumb synopsis at the very top obviously knows nothing about the webhead (or videogames in general, for that matter). So what if adventure is your reward? This game is original, and it rocks!

This game tries hard to please everyone. For the comic book fan, Spider-Man stays true to the comic pages it was born from. The layout of the game levels are introduced like comic book episodes. Many of your favorite characters not only make an appearance, their storylines and personalities are preserved. (Yes, Peter Parker cracks plenty of jokes!)

For the fans of good game play, hey, all I can say is hats-off to Activision. Spider-Man is a pleasant hero with dozens of actions; the man is practically a streetfighter. How they took Spider-Man's moves in the comic book and made them all simplified, playable and useful was nothing short of brilliant.

Furthermore, the levels are challenging yet correspond well to your experience. This game has high AI, so players must plan their strategies utilizing stealth, surprise attacks, combos, and even retreat. Through all this, animation flows smoothly, especially the looks of the hero himself.

The only thing bad things I can think of is that you need to buy that bloody controller pak before you can save -- so don't leave Target (oops, I mean Amazon) without it. Did you get that parents? It's the NINTENDO 64 CONTROLLER PAK, sold seperately to bite off more of that good beef Nintendo smells in your pockets while buying your kid a game.

Another bad thing is that the comic book setup may be choking on its own success: it assumes the player is already familiar with some Spiderman storylines. For example, on the second level, the story picks up right where Scorpion is about to lay Jameson to rest. Although he briefly states that it was Jameson that put him in that suit (true, true), the novice may still be completely confused as to who these people are, why they're in some building called the Daily Bugle, why they're fighting, etc. Either people will be frustrated with the pace, or they'll be curious and want to learn more about the Spider-Man saga.

The other thing was, um, the yellow light at the bottom of the sky scrapers. It's not necessarily bad, it just kind of rustles up some nightmarish Superman 64 flashbacks for me.

But as you can see, none of this stuff stopped me from giving it the full five stars. The lead character is one of the most likeable heroes not only in comic books but video-gaming now as well. This action title is wonderful; you'll be dreaming about it in your sleep. Let me repeat THIS GAME ROCKS!
