Pass this one on, its not all that good

This game would be good if it was possible to have over 100 people on a server. The maps are so huge that it takes 2-3 minutes to get into some action. Since at most 32 people can get on a server through the internet, otherwise the lag is ridiculous, the game would [be bad]. Games like Half-Life, Medal of Honor, and Unreal Tournament are great for that reason. If you die, you get right back into the battle within 10 to 15 seconds.

On the otherside of the table this game is not that realistic. I mean, you control one guy who can take over a battleship and switch positions on the battleship with the push of the number pad? Personally, I like the feeling of being one person, who can control one thing at a time, or go into the battlefield with just my gun alone to fight. That's where this game lacks, most of the fighting in this game is between one guy controlling a whole battleship vs. one man who controls a tank. There is rarely man on man fighting. Vehicles are overused in this game. And like I said, this would be OK if more people could compete on one server, because then you could get more people to control one vehicle, which is realistic.

On a positive note, this game has amazing graphics, and realistic weapons and vehicles. If you want mindless gaming, go with this game. But if you want unrelenting action, go with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault.

OK, this isn't an honest review because.....

It locks up my machine 80% of the time.
To start with after you install the game you have to jump through a bunch of hoops at File Planet etc. to get a patch.
After all that I have to reboot 3 out of 4 times starting the game. Yes, I have the most recent video drivers and DirectX 8.1.
Yes I meet the specs, Dual PIII's @ 1GHz, 851 Megs of RAMS, LVD SCSI drives and a Geforce4 TI4400 running Windows XP oughta do it!
If you have to get an EA title get Medal of Honor! This feels like a work in progress(beta) and they have a long way to go!
Don't spend 45 bucks on a beta version!

Battlefield 1942 - perplexing

Played the demo and liked it. Since I have a Dell P4, 1/6ghz, 256Mg memory, Nvidia Gefore 2 MMX w/64mg, XP I highly anticipated the real deal which I bought. It's been mixed feelings since then. With just a dial-up connection, forget multiplayer. I've gotten in to a couple of games but with more than 6 players you just lag out. Even in singleplayer mode, it's maddening. I've read a lot of comments (here and other places) and there is no seemingly set formula for good gameplay on your machine. I've messed with virtual memory, tweaked B1942 settingly with video modes, used different monitor refresh rates, unistalled McAfee virus and firewall to see if it helped and all that still makes the game hit and miss. Any action with planes (Midway) kills the gameplay. What makes it a bigger issue for me is that I love this game, especially Berlin, where infantry rocks. Having to Look at bulletin boards and all the tweaking just to try to get this game to an acceptible level of play is just not worth it. A P4 1.6ghz with a Geforce 2 w/64 OUGHT to work...

I got this game to work a whole lot better. Are you ready?

- Changed my desktop to 800x 600 16-bit color, 75mhz monitor refresh rate and matched this in the games video settings
- Turned off my video cards antalizing (sp) - set to none
- Turned off my soundcards hardware accleration to none.

To play multiplayer you must have broadboard or DSL.

Obviously, if you don't know what I'm talkng about, this game is not for you. Changed my rating from 2 to 4 stars but EA still shouldn't have made it this tough. Microsoft's success with Age of Empires was that it was/is playable on most systems.

1.2 patch fixes a lot of problems

The new 1.2 patch, available online fixes a lot of the lagging problems that you read about in the reviews. Yes the hardware requirements are steep, but if you have a relatively new computer with a good video card and a broadband connection then I think you will find this to be the best game you've ever played. You can read the other reviews for more detail about gameplay, but buy the game, get the patch, get online and play!

MOHAA at the next level

This game is pretty much like MOHAA, but with much larger terrains, vehicles, and in general much larger battles. Some may like the freedom given to them, while others may not. Basicaly, you should like the game, but depending on your tastes, you may want to pass it. Borrow it from a friend first!

Good but not what it was hyped up to be...

Excellent game but definitely NOT what it was hyped up to be. I finished the single player campaign in 6 hours(yes its just that easy to do on the average setting) and realized in that time that my teamates AI was terrible-they were standing there shooting at prone targets 6 feet away from them and missing and then half my team was looking the other way in the Battle of the Bulge when the enemy was not 30 yards away from them cutting them all to ribbons...I had to reload every 5 seconds....medics get more firepower that assault troopers ( I held off what seemed to be the entire force of Iwo Jima with a medic!!Hunkered down in a bunker with an unlimited ammo supply right next to me lol).
So I do recommend it but take all the reviews with a huge grain of salt-ive seen better offerings out there. Oh yeah and when i tried to run ppl over with the tank they STOOD on the hood of the tank and came along for the ride I saw this happen alot and wondered if this was the way it was intended becuse it looks ridiculous I had to laugh even though I was intent on using my tank as an infantry mower. Also how does a palm tree stop a tank? Fact is it doesnt except in this game...

Huge Disappointment

If you loved MOHAA, you will hate this game. Graphics are weak, and controls not as easy to work with. Save your money!

didn't get anywhere near my expectations

After reading all of the reviews for BF: 1942 I decided I'd buy it...it seemed like a good game going by the reviews. It's really a bad game. the gameplay is terrible, it has a lot of glitches, and it takes 5-10 minutes to load a game. Don't expect this game to be very fun because of the flying...it's terrible...

the only reason why I didn't give the game 1 star was because the tank missions are pretty cool.

I'm Sorry, But I'm Very Disappointed In This Game!

I was really looking forward to buying and playing Battlefield 1942. I had heard so much hype about it. You know what? You need a super computer to play this game. Now don't tell me to go buy a newer computer because I already have a new computer. I have a Dell 1.7GHz with 256MB RAM and a 32MB Nvidia Geforce 4 Graphics Card. No matter what setting I put this game on, this game lags and movement of everything is very slow. I ended up taking the game back to the store and putting in a preorder for the expansion pack to Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, which comes out next month. I never had any trouble at all with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and it ran as smooth as silk on my computer. Electronic Arts (EA) has published both Battlefield 1942 and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and I can't believe they would let Battlefield 1942 be published with all of the bugs in it. This game needs alot of work and alot of patches to be able to work right. I'm very disappointed that EA released this game so early with so many bugs.

great game but make sure your SOUND drivers are uptodate

This is the best shooter around but if you don't update your sound card drivers the game can be very slow.
