I have been a UO user on and off for about 5 years. Kind of fun to go back to every once in a while at least until I play a while and remember why I left.

I loaded this game, was able to patch it but was never able to log in. I kept getting a "client.exe encountered trouble" message.

The UO site was the same as I remember - no help at all. The EA support site was also useless. The two sites even contradicted each other. Then I called the EA tech support number and all they did was send me an email that appeared to have been written soley to deal with Win95 and 98 yet I CLEARLY told the guy multiple times that I was running Windows XP. As shown below my system exceeds the even the recommended setup on the box.
P4 2.4Ghz
512Meg ram
Soundblaster Live
nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200

If your setup is anything like mine DON'T waste your money. You will get next to NO technical support or recommendations for fixing the problem.

As a side note, I would NEVER, EVER buy anything from Electroniques Boutique. Not only would they not refund the purchase price for the game but they also would not refund my money for the UO strategy guide that I purchased at the same time as the game. Like I can really use that book at all.

Absolute Junk

This expansion pack drove me away from the game after 3 years of playing. UO has a history of bad launches, as do most MMORPG's, but in the past they have uploaded "test servers" which basically allows the entire playing population to Beta test. No such thing was done with AoS. They claimed it was to keep up the suspense and excitement for the "never before seen" new features, but in truth it was to prevent the player base from learning about how dramatically they were changing the game. This expansion totally changes the basic framework of the game to mimic many of its more modern competitors, yet fails to implement those systems half as well as its competition, not to mention they conflict with the legacy system that had been working for 5 years. Lets also not forget (for you ole skool gamers out there) that with every expansion that Ulitima Online becomes a little less "Ultima" as Richard Gariott envisioned it, and more generic boaring rpg. This game should be renamed "Ultima Diablo Quest." If that idea appeals to you, then i hope you enjoy.

UO SOON TO CLOSE

This is a dieing game that does not have much left in it.
I have played since it came out and if you are a parent i would not recommend this game for your child.
They do nothing about Hackers, Racism and Sexuality.
They offer bans but do not act properly on them and there is little punishment dealt out for such actions.
In fact i would recommend any other company games than EA and Origin Software. Like Star Wars Generations.
I am sorry I played this game so long but i learnt all the companies want is to sell more disks year after year to power gaming addicts. They understand that computer games can be addictive and have used it to their advantage this release is no different than any others. Full of bugs that take a year to iron out in which time they are also busy working on the next release.
Which in this case is UO DOA.
My account is being closed as hundreds of friends have already done. I post this here to warn others of what is coming.
If you play UO id be selling on ebay now well it is still possible to do. Prices have dropped substantially on uo game stuff a good indication the game is dieing.
Come their next big patch they will be losing more business and will likely be forced to decide on wether the game should continue or not. As most those who quit lately will not buy into their companies more, ever!

The Best Gets Better!!!

With two years of Ultima Online under my belt, I can tell you that this new upgrade will be the best addition yet! The world of Ultima Online has something for everyone and Age of Shadows adds even more. With a new land mass where players can build their own houses, and two new classes of player characters (The Evil Necromancer and the Good Paladin) the land of Britannia is once again the best place on the web to role play!

Still the best...

Despite having taken a large hit in gameplay over the last two years with dumbing down combat, AOS promises to revitalize skill and PvP along with many other features.

Everyone is placing their bets on what hopes to be the expansion that brings UO, the only true MMORPG back to glory.

Giving it four stars at it's current state, the expansion will either kill the game or revive it :)

Electronic Arts dropped the ball on this one.

This game was released 5 days ago and it still is un-playable. Origin systems, the designer, failed to test the game properly before introducing it. It was sold on a pre-release basis with added extras. Massive problems have arisen since the release ... Buyer beware! ...

Outdated gameplay

You would think that a mmorpg game ,backed by a large gaming company like EA, would revamp this game to keep up with modern game play. In it's time, UO was an awesome game. But now games like Neverwinter Nights have left this game behind in the past where it belongs. I quit playing UO in disgust waiting for phase 3 of the Housing to kick in over six months ago. Checking the UO website I have found to date they still have not started phase 3 . The quest,(yes singular)were drawn out and you had to wait for the next part of the quest to be activated, what a joke. The expansion pack will be more of the same. Don't waste your money on this game.

No Hooded Shroud of Shadows

Don't order from here if you expect to get it. They give you the run around and you never end up with it. Other than the fact that you miss out on this item it is fun, but order it from somewhere where you can really get the Hooded Shroud of Shadows.

I had been playing Ultima Online for 3 years prior to the release of this expansion. The bugs surpassed anything I've previously seen Electronic Arts let out the door. They really outdid themselves with this one.

And that doesn't even get started on the fact they turned the entire game upside down and inside out, completely changing everything. I thought I'd logged into Diablo Online accidently.

The roll out was so awful, Electronic Art's subsidary, Origin Systems has offered a reward to compensate players for their trouble.

This expansion ruin a once great game. I stopped playing within 1 week of this expansion and moved on to Dark Age of Camelot. If you're looking for something like UO used to be, check out Shadowbane. Even for free, Age of Shadows is a waste of time.

Ultima Online

Yes Ultima Online has had many issues and bugs since the release of AoS, but I have yet (being a vet of 5 years) not seen an expansion on Ultima that hasn't had it shares of bugs to deal with. I must say that OSI should have beta tested AoS to help resolve some of the issues before it was released, but none the less AoS has now been out for almost 2 months now and many of the issues and bugs have been fixed. For all you Dial-up peeps out there they have fixed the lag issue that was slowing everyone down. When I upgraded to AoS I was lagged on dial-up and DSL, now everything runs smoothly for me. There are a lot of profesions one can choose in Ultima Online. I myself perfer being a warrior adventure, but to those who get bored with just fighting there are many things you can do; the possabilities are left to the players imagination. As for housing there are spots available. You may hear many complaints about no housing spots available only because for those who wish to place only want to place the biggest house they can. In the many years that I've played I have learned to start small then work your way up to get what you want and it does work! I know because I started out with the smallest house possable in Ultima and have slowly been working my way up. Just remeber (as much as we would love to have them now) even in games things take time!!

I will admit I disliked the changes at first but I have now grown to love them. The new changes have intreaged me to learn and play more of the game.
