Way kool cross platform game...

The game is a fun and thoughtful simulation of how civilizations advance from misty beginnings to a not so distant future. The 3D graphics are fun and informative. It's good instruction for anybody who thinks that national security is obtained just by buying troops. Unlike some computer simulations, people have the time they want to think out actions that would take years to implement in the real world. The Windows version on my wife's machine interacts fine with the Mac version on my machine. I'm buying another Windows version of the software to play with one of my grandsons in another state.

Civilization IV: Just Keeps Getting Better

I'm not going to waste words here. The Civilization series has been great... a legend... since its first title. Civilization IV not only continues this legacy, it builds on it. It is quite possibly the best version to date.

Fair enough, the game had its flaws in the packaged version. Many people needed to install new graphics drivers (a fairly simple process, really) for the game to work right. However, with the update freely available from the manufacturer, the game runs almost flawlessly and Firaxis is turning its attention to tweaking the details of the mechanics.

Civilization IV deserves a fair shake by everyone.

Not the best Civ but still well worth playing.

Civ 2 is still the best but this is better than three.

Best Civilization Game Ever!

It took a few plays to get used to this game, but after that it was obvious this was the best version of Civ yet. I have had no problems installing or playing the game. I have played 3 games so for for about 18 hours and the game crashed once. I have a 3.90Ghz with 1G RAM. Bottom line is, if you know you have a high performance gaming PC and you are a veteran Civ player, there is absolutely no way you will be dissappointed.

While this game is not perfect, it is by far the best game for someone who likes strategy and depth.

[...]

I had one lockup on my nVidia system that seemed to be sound related. After bumping down the graphics to medium, everything until I quit for the day.

It is odd, though, that the beta and in-house testing didn't uncover this.

I am giving this only 4 stars as a measurement of Civ IV customer support.

Best Computer Game Ever

I'm addicted. If you like turn based strategy this is your game. Micromangement has been drastically reduced so that you can focus on broad strategic decisions. If you are at all interested in turn based strategy - BUY THIS GAME. You will not be disapointed.

Fatal error - hardware incompatible tho my pc exceeds requirements

Crashed my computer with "fatal error - hardware incompatible" message. I have a very common DELL with specs that exceed the requirements. If CIV4 can't make a product that is compatible with the most common pc in the U.S., then I don't want to support incompetence. It's not like they haven't had enough time to fix such problems, the product has been out for over a year.
Be wary before you purchase.

I was overdone by the graphics of this game. You can actualy see the rivers running, windmills turrning, and the mine trains going in and out of the mine. The battle graphics are great to.If you like stratagy games or the other civilazation games this is the one for you.the one drawback is the huge ammount of comeputer space it takes up.

Catastrophic Failure

I installed this game with no problems. Then I tried to run it. No good. So I uninstalled it. It took me about 20 tries for the game to install properly again, each time getting a "Catastrophic Failure" error message. Then I tried to run it. No good.

2K games is looking to put out a product for maximum gains with minimum effort. I sincerely hope they won't screw up BioShock the way they have Civilization.
