A big disapointment!

Aaarrrrggghhhh! This game is awful! I must admit that I was taken in by the storyline and creepy aura of this game. But, the game contol is the worst of any X-box game I've played. More than half of your game-time is spent just trying to make your character "James" go in the proper direction. There is only one thumbstick used to control both the direction he looks and the direction he moves. VERY AWKWARD!! On many occasion, such as narrow hallways etc., you find yourself pushing up on the thumbstick so that you can have a face-to-face veiw of James walking right toward you. I guess this might be OK if James was a buxom hot chick, but he's not, and this camera angle makes it impossible to see where you are going. James doesn't jump, James doesn't crouch, heck you can barely just make him walk! Konami needs to learn that no matter how good the storyline and graphics, if you can't control the character the game is worthless.
p.s. Konami, can I get my $$ back?

I bought this couple of days ago...BIG mistake...avoid at all cost...rent it first!

PROS:
decided not to buy it after reading this review.

CONS:
Graphics is not good, its fuzzy and hard to follow the third person views. Boring, all u do is run around town looking for stuff. the puzzles are okay, but monsters are way too easy to kill. no dolby digital surround during game play. this game is stupid, its not scary. only scary part is i spent 50 bucks on this game.

I don't know where some of these reviews came from, maybe they own stock in the company, but this game has extremely poor game play control and is a waste of money. Not even close to a Max Payne. Save your money and if you want to know anything more about the game, rent it first, even at that, save your money and buy something decent.

Don't waste your money buying this one. The best part of the game is hunting down the items and clues. The controls are lame, zombies are all the same (and not much of a challenge). The whole game is not scary at all, if you are scared by this game you seriously don't need to watch ANY horror movies! It really needs more variety of enemies and a better weapon selection. Truly the WORST X box game I ever owned. The first thing I did when I beat this game is SELL IT!!!

I do not know where this game gets its reviews but i am beginning to think the manufacture has paid someone to put these ridiclus reviews up here. To be VERY honest this game (is no good). the graphics are intesly awsome. but remember it is played on the XBOX so it has to be. The game play is extremely boring. If you like HALO and MAX PAYNE then please do not waste your time. I had to return mine and i will also email konami and ask them what were they thinking!

I got my kid who's 9 an X-Box for christmas and he loves it. He had the PS1 and enjoyed Silent Hill, a Resident Evil style thriller. Little did I know when I went out and got him Silent Hill 2, sure it scares him to death but he loves it, this was not the case however. One night I was watching him play like every other night, because it's a M 18+ game I like to supervise him. Then I realised it was really quite appaling. There were constant blurrs, bads graphics and poor cut-scenes if any. I playing but it was still awful even in the 'best' parts of the game. take it form me, no way you'll buy this!

SILENT HILL WAS WITHOUT QUESTION THE MOST BORING AND NON ACTION OR STORYLINE OF A GAME IVE EVER PLAYED.FIRST OF ALL ITS ALMOST IMPOSIBLE TO GET ANYWHERE IN THE GAME WITHOUT CHEATING WITH THE BOOK I DONT BUY GAMES SO I HAVE TO CHEAT AND PLAY WITH THE BOOK SO I CAN PLAY THE STUPID GAME FINDING STUFF ON YOUR OWN IS ALL THE FUN NOT WITH SILNT HILL AND I PLAYED IT ON PS2 AND I HATED ON THAT GAME SO I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT ON XBOX.WELL IM SORRY TO SAY THAT IT RANKS DOWN AS LOW AS BRITNEYS DANCE BEAT.THEY NEED TO STOP THIS MESS NOW MAKING A THIRD GAME IS GONNA DO ONLY ONE THING MAKE ME WRITE ANOTHER BAD REVIEW WHITCH I HAVE NOT DONE IN ALONG TIME SORRY ITS JUST PLAIN BAD.

As mentioned by others, the spooky fog is really nice. The begining story ( wife's letter, go through spooky graveyard, meet the first monster in the town ) is intersting. But, after getting into the apartment building ( it's not easy to figure out too ), the game becomes really boring. I get in and out of different rooms trying to find those tiny coins and keys in order to progress to next step. ( some doors are locked and I need to search other rooms to get the tiny key --- this trick repeated many times) After I get in and out of different rooms for hundreds times, eventually I can leave this building .....relax? Nooo, I just get into the next apartment building, and I need to do this in-out-in-out job again! The only way to stop is to eject the disc and retun it to store.

Fortunately, I RENTed it.

Ok. This game i rented hoping to have a good action-storyline based game. Well theres a story line, and i have to day its a good one. But the fun in this game lacks, its can be addictive, but unless you have alot of time on your hands, its not really great. The graphics are top notch the gameplay is good, the setup overall is good. But after paying for awhile i lost intrest and put it down. If you are someone who likes strategy, lots of thinking and lots of time, this game is for you. But if you are someone who likes fast paced action and exitement this game is not for you. I do have to day at times there is some action and some horror, but not much, so this game i give to stars for the graphics, and for the lack of intrest and fun.

Gameplay is horrible - story line is good.

The gameplay is terrible... anyone claiming this game is worthy of 5 stars needs to go see a head doctor. I played this game for about 8 hours and still there were times when a zombie approached me but I couldnt attack it - instead I would hit the wall with my weapon. Not even worth playing.
