Hello. Hi. If you get easily freaked out and you're old, don't play this game because it will give you a heart attack... If you LIKE getting scared, because it's fun, this game is for you! This game IS SO FAR the most scariest game ever... Compared to Resident Evil, this game blows Resident Evil out of the water... this game is so scary that it will keep you thinking about it long after you beat it... and by the way, play with the light on or you will get scared, and if you're like "oh no GAMES don't scare me--AT LEAST rent it and see... This game is MAD scary and EVEN tho it has 5 different endings, you won't feel like playing it again... after you beat it once.

That's the best way to describe what this game is. The scenery is abstract and beautiful. Some have said that to play Silent Hill 2 is to play a David Lynch movie. The story is very intracate and invovling. But what about the game?
It seems that someone must have complained about the difficulty of the first game because this game is much easier than the first. This makes the monsters non threating thus not scary. In the first game you were lucky to have a health pack or one bullet left to your name. SH2 loads you down with ample bullets and health packs so the sense of urgency is some what deminshed. Also the monster are very weak. Even in the hard mode most of the time you can breeze by them without looking back. What saves the game from disapointment is the story and atmosphere. By the end of the game your greatest fear will be an unopened door. The themes in this game are mature and thoughtful. it's good horror because it grapples with how we precieve death. I really enjoy this game, but you may want to rent before you buy.

Want to scare the bejeezus outta yerself?

Okay, as cheesy as the the title for this review may sound, it's about as plain as I can put it. Those of you who are Resident Evil addicts, or other such video games with contrived and faulty storylines/plots, well...this review isn't for you.
For those of you interested in renting or purchasing the game, I highly recommend it, especially if you're the type of individual who isn't spooked easily: If the music itself doesn't give you the "willies" or grate on your subconcious to the point of thinking you're actually in the game, wading through a fog-laden town full of twisted, bizarrely anatomically incorrect nightmarish creatures, well then...You, my friend are in need of psychiatric help. Either that, or you need to actually visit the town of Silent Hill (wherever it may be) itself for a wakeup call. I'd bring a lead pipe or two, and just maybe some serious firepower, i.e., as much as you can carry, to make it through this little sleepy "town of terror". Outstanding graphics, fantastic music, a great story and enough creepiness to keep you glued to the tube for hours on end. Well worth it, people...Nothing like a good fright to brighten or highten the senses anyway, right?

Where do I start

Ok. This game i rented hoping to have a good action-storyline based game. Well theres a story line, and i have to day its a good one. But the fun in this game lacks, its can be addictive, but unless you have alot of time on your hands, its not really great. The graphics are top notch the gameplay is good, the setup overall is good. But after paying for awhile i lost intrest and put it down. If you are someone who likes strategy, lots of thinking and lots of time, this game is for you. But if you are someone who likes fast paced action and exitement this game is not for you. I do have to day at times there is some action and some horror, but not much, so this game i give to stars for the graphics, and for the lack of intrest and fun.

If you bought the PS2 version, there's no need to buy this

A few months ago (June?) when I discovered that members of the original Panzer Dragoon development team were involved in the new upcoming Xbox game Panzer Dragoon Orta, that was when I decided to buy an Xbox. I'd been paying very little attention to the Xbox at that point, so I didn't know what game to buy with the console. I'm a big Silent Hill fan, and I knew that the Xbox version of SH2 included an extra quest, not to mention Silent Hill 3 had recently been announced and my brain was basically abuzz with Silent Hill fever... so I bought Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams. Well, the extra quest ended up taking less than 90 minutes to complete, and I was then left with a copy of a game that was in almost every other way identical to the PS2 version, but with a slightly better looking flashlight effect. To anyone else in a situation similar to mine, I heartily recommend Halo, Munch's Oddysee, GunValkyrie, and Jet Set Radio Future.

To everyone else, if you enjoy a complex and mature psychological horror mystery that will creep you out like you've never been creeped out before, get Silent Hill 2 NOW.

Now, that was scary!!!

This game was really good. This was the first time I played a game of this type. The controls were a little tricky, but that was the 3d control option, change it to the 2d control option, it is a lot easier. The graphics were great, the sound was right on the money, it can be very spooky at times. For the low price now, its worth getting, trust me...

Fun as Resident Evil? Yes. Creepier? You bet your a$$!!!

Lets face it. Resident Evil isn't really as creepy as we would want it to be. Or is it not THE creepy we want it to be? It's the cool creepy. The kind of creepy we like to talk about and can define. Silent Hill, however, is scary creepy. The kind of thing that makes us flip on (or even off) the lightswitch. The game itself begins with a quite creepy happening. As you walk a trail the sound of somebody following you is heard. Semi-creepy. Fastforwarding you get the signature Silent Hill radio which informs you of creepy crawlies nearby. Which brings me to the biggest creepiness of the game. The sound. The music. It's what sends shivers up your spine. The creatures and scenes are also extremely nerve-rattling. Remember the hospital and school in the first game? Yea, that kind of nerve-rattling. The creepiest thing I could guess about the locations is they can be actual places. What are the chances of stumbling upon a large seemingly abandoned mansion that has a secret facility underneath compared to running into your average elementary school? I rest my case. The weaponry and fighting is somewhat better than Resident Evil also. The more open places allow easier times dealing with things or just simply running. Yes, running. What everybody wanted to do in RE to conserve ammo but couldn't because of the cramped hallways. Continuing, Silent Hill has twisted storylines. Makes it much cooler. This is evident with this game's big secret, but I'm staying hush hush on that as not to spoil it. X-Box owners,I highly suggest this game if you want a scary creepy adventure.

I'm starting to think that I should quit buying my games and just rent them all. SH2 took me 9h 45m to finish. While I enjoyed the game and was creeped out a few times, I just can't feel comfortable recommending a... title that gives less than a short weekend of gameplay. The game does have 4 endings, but who's really interested in playing through the game 4 time just to see a different 30 second ending movie. Not me. I played SH2 with the lights down and the surround sound up, and was spooked just as good (if not better) than a decent horror flick. Stalking dark hallways with a flashlight while watching for zombies was pretty cool. The puzzles weren't particularly difficult, and the writing (as usual) was B level quality at best. The graphics and textures are gruesome, as are some of the cutscenes. This one's rated "M" for a reason parents. While I do recommend it for fans of action/adventure/puzzle/horror games, I really wish the game was longer though...thus the 3 stars.

A big disapointment!

Aaarrrrggghhhh! This game is awful! I must admit that I was taken in by the storyline and creepy aura of this game. But, the game contol is the worst of any X-box game I've played. More than half of your game-time is spent just trying to make your character "James" go in the proper direction. There is only one thumbstick used to control both the direction he looks and the direction he moves. VERY AWKWARD!! On many occasion, such as narrow hallways etc., you find yourself pushing up on the thumbstick so that you can have a face-to-face veiw of James walking right toward you. I guess this might be OK if James was a buxom hot chick, but he's not, and this camera angle makes it impossible to see where you are going. James doesn't jump, James doesn't crouch, heck you can barely just make him walk! Konami needs to learn that no matter how good the storyline and graphics, if you can't control the character the game is worthless.
p.s. Konami, can I get my $$ back?
