Hello. Hi. If you get easily freaked out and you're old, don't play this game because it will give you a heart attack... If you LIKE getting scared, because it's fun, this game is for you! This game IS SO FAR the most scariest game ever... Compared to Resident Evil, this game blows Resident Evil out of the water... this game is so scary that it will keep you thinking about it long after you beat it... and by the way, play with the light on or you will get scared, and if you're like "oh no GAMES don't scare me--AT LEAST rent it and see... This game is MAD scary and EVEN tho it has 5 different endings, you won't feel like playing it again... after you beat it once.

Beautiful game. The sounds are realistic, the graphics are sweet, the story is nice, great creatures and easy to handle controls. What Resident Evil should have been. If you like survival horrors, this is the best one yet...

Silent Hill is one of the most eeriest game you will ever play. My only tip is play it with somebody and have the lights on. (...) Konami gave the XboX owners some extras with the game: an Xbox-exclusive extra episode in which you play as Mary the wife of the main character. Even with the extra episode it may not be reason enough to buy it for XboX if you have played it in PS2, but it will extend your playing time for about 6-10 hours.
You play as James Sunderland, a man who comes to Silent Hill after he receives a mysterious letter from his dead wife(Mary), asking him to meet her there. When you finally get there you notice that there is something very wrong, it is up to you to find out. As usual you will be spending most of the time solving puzzles but along the way killing tons of zombie-type creatures, which RARELY is a challenge (note:Enemy AI is (...)). One thing I like about the game is the mapping system, it will help you alot since you will know what areas you have missed along the way if you get stuck.
The graphics and sound of the game is definitely been refined for the XboX version. The creatures in Silent Hill 2 sound as scary as they look, but their AI is something to be worked on. All in all a great game and worth the fifty bucks you will be buying it for, if not rent it. For parents out there this game is not for kids, even a 21-year old gamer like me gets nightmares from this game.

I just bought this game (12-12-01) at my local Game stop. I played it for about an hour .It was not very exciting at the start but once i got into Silent Hill it was very freaky . There was fog every where and i walked down the street and there was blood marks where it looked like someone had been draged down the street and there was a monster so i follwed it . It was hard and freaky cause the whole town is covered in Fog which is a really good effect . You cant even see the monster until your right next to them . The monster's are not very freaky its the music and town that freak you out. The graphics are beautiful on the Xbox . The fog looks so real . So if you own and a Xbox and love Horror games then come visit Silent Hill .

I do not know where this game gets its reviews but i am beginning to think the manufacture has paid someone to put these ridiclus reviews up here. To be VERY honest this game (is no good). the graphics are intesly awsome. but remember it is played on the XBOX so it has to be. The game play is extremely boring. If you like HALO and MAX PAYNE then please do not waste your time. I had to return mine and i will also email konami and ask them what were they thinking!
Could of been a good game....if it didn't suck so bad

I bought this couple of days ago...BIG mistake...avoid at all cost...rent it first!
PROS:
decided not to buy it after reading this review.
CONS:
Graphics is not good, its fuzzy and hard to follow the third person views. Boring, all u do is run around town looking for stuff. the puzzles are okay, but monsters are way too easy to kill. no dolby digital surround during game play. this game is stupid, its not scary. only scary part is i spent 50 bucks on this game.
Extraordinary game

It's not often that a movie or a game scares me, but Silent Hill 2 is one of those games that totally freak me out. The core of this game is to create psychological frights, which is a nice change from cheap "boo"-type scares games like Resident Evil relies on. The plot is very well developed, and the storyline proceeds greatly throughout the game. I don't want to give anything away, but I can guarantee that you'll sit staring at your television screen going "What the..." when the credits start rolling. There are some serious mind-games going on here.
A great feature is that you can choose both puzzle and action difficulty. If you're an adventure fan like me, you can put the action level down to easy, the puzzle level to the hardest, and you all of a sudden have pretty much a pure adventure game. If you're an action fan, just reverse it. A great feature.
The graphics are great throughout, and so are the cut-scenes, but it's the music and sound that really sets the atmosphere. Walk out of a room, and you'll hear a gunshot and a scream from the door you can't get open. Add the amazing music on the top of this, and you've got one of the better sounding games in recent memory.
Silent Hill 2 is pure atmosphere, and with five different endings, and different clues to the secret of Silent Hill in each game, the re-playability value is high. This is a good thing, seeing that the game is so short, which again is its only drawback. The extra Maria scenario adds about an hour more of gameplay, but no major new plot development comes from it, although it's a great short-story on its own.
If you already own the PS2 version there's not a lot more to see in this version, but if you don't get this game now. Extraordinary storyline, top of the line graphics and sound, tons of atmosphere... Silent Hill 2 has it all.
A Good Overall game

I never played the Original, so I can't say if this is a good sequal or not, but this game is very well done. My favorite scene, being the Hospitol... knocking off the cracked out zombie nurses with my shotgun one by one... It just doesn't get much better than that... the graphics are great, and you can remove that "noise" effect or whatever its called, instantly. I guess im new to the genre, for the movement gets a little jerky at times, especially fighting that pyramid head monster thing... but all in all, its a solid title... and the Story flows along very nicly, there were times I thought I was lost, and bam there was a cinematic that took me to more zombie mutilating goodness... There is a Side Quest included, although I haven't checked it out... its supposed to be an Xbox exclusive or something... just means more zombie killing for me I guess
Just got it, but so far...

...not much to do. The Zombies are starting to come around though, and it's getting much better.
You're this guy who had/has a girlfriend who may/may not be dead. She got "that damn disease" a few years ago, and supposedly died of it. BUT...2 weeks later you recieve a letter, from her, saying to meet her at your "special place" (Silent Hill). So the question is...IS SHE STILL ALIVE? Oh yeah, everyone else in town who had "that damn disease" turned into a flesh-eating zombie who tries to kill you.
Strong Language, Gore, and Graphic Violence earn this an "M".
