Very Realistic!

The game is awesome. Unlike many of the cartoonish space games out there, this one looks and feels like you are in space and flying a viper. What I would have given to have had something similar as a kid. The sound effects are just like on the shows and the graphics are excellent. The Galactica and vipers are as the original series, but as you advance you begin to see cylons ships resembling the newer mini-series that is currently airing. It is a perfect blend of the two. The cylons periodically speak and sound fantastic and you also get to pilot a cylon ship. Keeping in formation with them so they don't detect you ain't easy. The first level is quite dark because of course you are in space and can only see what light is reflecting on. This adds to the realistic feel, but created some frustration for me as I wanted a clearer view of the ships around me. I felt somewhat like what a novice pilot must feel, a lot of controls, not sure which is which and couldn't see much around me. However, you quickly adapt. As you move through levels it is not always dark, especially when you are fighting around a planet which reflects alot of light. I found the controls a bit awkward at first. Most controls perform double or tripple functions forcing you to tap once or twice or hold down, depending on what you need, but you do quickly learn. Still in difficult encounters requring quick reflexes you can easily get confused. This adds to the excitement/frustration. I Still have a little trouble with the thrusters, you have to tap twice to execute and tap twice and hold to sustain them. When executed these are awesome!! You also get to control multiple guns on the Galactica itself, loved it. The only real complaint I have is the lack of saves. You have to work through three minilevels to complete one save. This is very frustrating when you work through to the last only to get destroyed in the last few minutes of play and have to start all over again. Still for any Galactica fan, this is a must have. I hope it inspires further Galactica collectibles and games.

Who designed this lame game???

This game is ridiculously difficult....I couldn't do anything but roam around space and look at the pretty stars. I guess the designers pushed this thing on the market REALLY quick, in time for the SCI-FI Galactica series, so they could rake in lots of dough...Plus, I hate being able to just play the game from the cockpit view...Thank God I got this as a gift....[...] ARGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great game -- tough at first

I eagerly anticipated this games, having religiously watched the original show as a kid, and I must say that this game is great, and that's coming from a seasoned veteran of the Lucas Arts X-wing series.

The first mission seems impossible, and for those of you who think it is, I have a tip -- learn to use the missle controls, then use missles against the cylons as much as possible to complete the mission. The following missions come much easier as you learn to use the Viper controls. The highlight is the turbo thrust, which sounds exactly like the TV show and is not only fun to kick in but great for getting out of sticky situations.

I only hope that there will be a sequel game that features the characters with whom we're all familiar: Apollo, Starbuck, and Boomer. And since Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict lended their voices for cameo roles in this game, a second game with the player flying along with them would be fantastic -- perhaps even Herb Jefferson and Anne Lockhart would lend their voices as well to make the cast complete.

If you get this game be patient and remember -- use your missles.

This game was loads of fun. Some people said that it's too hard, but, I didn't find it hard at all. Actually it was kind of easy. I think car racing games are much more difficult (too much traffic to deal with on the ground), but flying games are easy (not much traffic to deal with in the air). However, in both driving and flying types games you have to do things at an incredibly high rate of speed. So, my advice is that when you play this game, just get used to thinking and doing things very quickly.

Oh yeah, one more thing, don't forget to make sure that you fly that stupid Viper like you just stole it and the cops are after you.

Just played the first few missions and I love the game. Gameplay is smooth and graphics are excellent. The cut scenes add nicely to the game. Some of the music is taken right from the series and sounds great!
If you liked BattleStar in the 70's get this game. If you like good Space combat Sims.. get this game!

looks good but repetative and not enough saves

I was looking forward to this game since I was a fan of the show when it first aired. I expected a progression of difficulty as the missions progressed but it was difficult from the initial mission. Does the game have any savepoints?

This is quite frankly one of the worst game purchases I've ever made. I'm sure the game designers can play this game -but unless you want to spend endless hours learning the simpliest of features skip this title. The most minimum of user testing should have exposed this title's weaknesses.

A stocking filler if ever there was one!

Control is excellent, game play is smooth. It's like going back in time to the 70's and being part of the TV show, but better.
