Deep Korean Online game makes clunky Wii transition

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 3 / 4

Super Swing Golf is a weird amalgomation of elements that don't quite all come together. Based upon a Korean Massively Multiplayer Online golf game, it inherited a really, really long gameplay curve, is ridiculously difficult, and candy coated with a cutsey art style. And welded onto a Wiimote swing interface.

While the idea of playing golf with a wii controller is sound, by the 50th time you've swung the remote and wondered why your ball hooked sharply left you'll be wishing they spent a little more time on creating some sort of feedback to why your swing keeps failing. At least in real life you know that it's your fault. Here, they require you to mimmock the subtlties of a real-world golf swing in order to be successful, but don't actually let you know how to do that or even what that would be.

Despite accessible appearances, this game is actually ridiculously difficult. The initial learning curve is punishing, especially on your stroke. In real golf it can take years to get to the point where you're hitting par on every hole. In Super Swing Golf, you'd better be hitting part on every hole by your third opponent.

Like so many other games in its genre, this one is all about buying clothes. You need to get money to get clothes, to swing better, to get more money, etc. It's a viscious cycle that just keeps going. And with literally hundreds of items, and hundreds of tournaments, there are literall hundreds of hours of gameplay here. If you can get through the first five without throwing your wiimote out the window, that is.

This game is huge and deep, and I really wanted to like it more than I did. But with a hugely frustrating learning curve, it's just a glorified exercise in anger management. If you really want a wii golf game and have a lot of time to invest in one, you could do worse. However, this game in no way encompases the "fun and accessible" mantra that the Wii has made its popularity upon.

Great game!

This game is great if you take the time to get used to the controls. You get points based on performance and you can use those points to buy items like different sets of golf clubs and clothes unique items that can affect gameplay. There are tons of courses and several different modes of gameplay. This game is very deep. As for controls you can swing the remote or use buttons like in a traditional golf video game. This game has quickly became one of my favorites.

Stupid Game and a waste of money....

The free golf game that came with the system was a blast and so I thought I'd try this game. This game wouldn't be worth my time if it were free. It is a waste of time, has nothing to do with the real game of golf, isn't fun, and doesn't work well.

This thing should not be for sale, never mind $50. Avoid this garbage game at all cost.

Great Fun but a Tad Too Long for Me!

I played the heck out of this game for about two months but once you quit playing it for a while it takes time to get your skills back so I haven't had much success going back to it and continuing my saved game.

During the time I played I won the entry level tournament and about 10 of the 18 hole courses as well as all the beginner on the match setting. I'd have to say my favorite part of the game was the 18 hole courses. You were competing against the computer but you didn't have to watch the other players.

I personally found the story cute and not over done and think a wide audience could enjoy this game. The controls were simple and the only real complaint I had was that switching from the three modes could be slow as the different screens loaded.

If I had a lot of time on my hands I probably could have played more of this game as it does take skill and a great deal of dedication if you want to go for, but alas, I eventually gave up.

So for me, well liked by a 32 year old female who just wanted a fun came to play that gives you a little bit of a workout (or at least you can use that as your excuse) but it is a bit too long for someone like me who can not play everyday for hours and see the end :)

not bad, not bad at all

I've never golfed "for real" in my life...but I do enjoy golf video games.
Anyway....I really enjoy the use of the wii remote in this. It gets me into the game. I'm still learning the game, but so far it's fun....albeit difficult and at times frusterating.

Anyway...it's a good game to get if you're into the golf games.

Middle Ground Golf Title

Pro:
-lots of unlockable material, characters, items, etc.
-whimsical and varied courses with different hazards, strategies.
-several play modes.
-more control than Wii Golf while less technically daunting than Tiger Woods.

Con:
-cutesy characters and graphics may not appeal to avid golfers looking for a game to play when it rains on the real course.
-less tools for shaping shots, adding finesse and other realistic touches.

I thoroughly enjoyed this title, after having played Tiger 07. The mechanic is diferent than either Wii sports or Tiger, but not all that dificult. I sponsor a Wii night at a local bar, and nobody who stepped up the console had many problems playing the game after a couple of holes. The putting is much more sound than Tiger, which was a deal breaker for me in Tiger 07. The opponents play well, which I like, because after three or four events in Tiger Woods you're smoking the ball 350 yards and beating Tiger himself handily. I was able to unlock several chapters and characters on just a weekends worth of playing. My father was even winning match events.

If you're looking for a less techinical game than Tiger, or are tired of the ease and lack of innovation in Tiger, this is a good title.

Relax and Enjoy !! THE most professional golf version

By chance I came across Super Swing Golf and decided to take a look at it.
The game itself is like a low spec version of PS2 based "Minna no Golf" (Japan) but adds some interesting features.

The game welcomes you with several easy listening bossa nove style melodies that runs through the whole game.

I would say it ranks close to "Minna no Golf", so above the Wii Sports mini Golf game version.

While WII Sports Golf version gives you 4 types of Golf clubs, you will have 14 with Super Swing Golf.

If you decide to play against the computer, than every Golf course starts with a challenge dialog. It goes along the line that once you enter the Golf course somebody will come up to you and tell you off. On which you suggest to make a challenge game. (The winner stays)

When doing a match with the computer you will be interested to find out the different levels of your golf partner player.

So their level might vary from beginner to professional and this is also a sympathy point for the game. Once you know your skill level you can choose a "partner" with similar skills.

Its so much more interesting than playing against somebody who is much stronger or weaker.

Some other interesting features that make the game very approachable are features like you can change the clubs behaviour to left or right handed etc.. You can also dress your character the way you want, just choose the shirt, pants, shoes etc that fits your personal style.

While playing you can make your displayed character transparent so you can actually see the area that would usually not be viewable from your view from behind the character.

But what really sets this game apart from f.e. Wii Sports Golf version is the waste amount of fancy animations, characters and golf scenarios. This is what really makes it so much fun to play.

Summary:

It is currently the most professional Golf type game on the WII platform. The many features, the easy listening type music, beautiful scenarios and fancy animations make you easily forget where you actually are. So its a very relaxing game, and that is what Golf is actually about.

If you want to be picky on the game, here are my complaints:

1) I found that the handling of the camera views need some getting used to.
2) The game itself should have some more features like similar Golf type games on other console platforms.

Anything else than that, just enjoy !!

Good, better online.

This is a good game but I still perfer it on it's online version, Albatross18 or Pangya. (albatross18.com/season2) It's alot more fun online because you can be in guilds, and interact with people all around the world. But this game has a "small" story around it and is semi-difficult. Sometimes the controls mess up and everything goes wako, but other times it's a ton of fun to play, and I could play forever.

More fun with the button controls

I love golf video games, so when I bought my Wii I had to pick this one up.

At first I didn't like it, because the arm motion you need to use with your Wii remote does not even come close to what a real golf swing should feel like. In fact, I went to the driving range after a few times of playing this and it messed up my actual swing because I was trying to swing like I was playing this game! I also found it hard to beat the CPU opponents using the motion swing.

Then, I switched to the button swing, and I found this game to be much more enjoyable. It's still challenging because the CPU opponents are tough to beat, but that it what gives this game replay value. When you use the button swing, this game is similar to Hot Shots Golf.

If you are looking for a Golf Sim that will help your actual golf game, look elsewhere. But if you are just looking for a fun game with lots of characters and items to unlock, you'll be happy. It's just too bad they couldn't work out the mechanics of the motion swing.

Way Too Difficult

I just rented this game to test it out. My kids and I have been taking turns for hours and we can't get past the second opponent. It gets boring playing Uncle Bob over and over on the same course. I guess there are a lot of neat courses and characters but we can't unlock any of them. I also have a hard time with the controls and sometimes its confusing.

This wouldbe a fun game if it weren't so difficult to play.
