I read the reviews, and thought to myself "There cannot possibly be a bad Ridge Racer".

After playing R4 for years, and still playing it occasionally, I popped in RR5... and wanted to bash my head into the desk. Repeatedly. While on fire.

The game is nice, graphically. As an older title you can't expect much now, but the game holds its own well. The nail in the coffin, however, is the gameplay.

Now, imagine Gran Turismo. It's a fun game because it has realistic handling, real life cars, and you have a sense of accomplishment when you earn your money to customize your car.

Now take R4 - amazing powersliding, great handling, response was killer - you had no real customization when it came to the cars, but you didn't care because the game was, well, FUN!

Combine the worst of the two series and you get this.

BAD HANDLING - Grip or Drift, it doesn't matter. If you're playing drift expecting the R4 fun, you are in for the biggest letdown since Daddy told you Santa Claus died in a shootout in Mexico in '72. Have fun fighting the car. In Soviet Ridge City, car drives YOU - INSANE!)
THE ANNOUNCER - Good god, man, don't you ever shut up!? Where is my god now!? D:!
BAD COURSES WITH NO SOUL - Remember Out of Blue, Helter Skelter, etc? These tracks took them out back in a dark alley and beat them up and left them there to die. Bad tracks, bad!

SOUNDTRACK - I'm no Boomboom Satellites hater, but they have one good song on this soundtrack. Ugh. Everything is too hard for a racing game. Take a page out of R4's book and use melodic trance. Hire Andain or something. Or Depeche Mode*, but that'll never happen. Haters :(

A good rent if you have a lot of money and time to spend. A bad game for everything else.

* This review is probably null because I like Depeche Mode. Sue me. :D

This game is truly a classic! But I can't be the first reviewer. That is just ridiculous! Must be a mistake by Amazon.

I will give this game high marks. Really hits the nail on the head!

I love this game. I got it yesterday, and although I still havn't passed the first round, I find it very fun and it helps me get my stress out. The graphics are great, but I don't like the music or the anouncer. It's a great racing game, and you should at least try it out.

After reading all the reviews I wanted to let people know that this Racing game is great. I think most people dont like this game cause its not realistic, but I dont want games to be realistic either. I hardly like any new games, but this one is a great racing game. The graphich is ok, but the gameplay is great !! the last Grand Prix is almost impossible on the hardest levell ! You take Sunny Beach ,Green Field on the hardest level.

I recommend this if u liked the other Ridge Racer Games, Personally I loved this one and dont get the awful reviews this one has gotten, very unfair.

I got this on the cheap thinking that it would be a decent racing game. I was wrong. I didn't know what to expect, but cars that handle EXTREMELY unrealistically, graphics that are just average in my eyes (compared to NFS 2 Hot pursuit and GT 3) and a general unexpected hardness in gameplay made me sorry I got this game. The cars are fake, which isn't too much of an issue but you have to make the fake cars good. If you're looking for a fun racing game with realistic cars, go for Need For Speed 2: Hot Pursuit, and if you want a good driving sim, go for Gran Turismo 3. Rent this if you must, but don't spend a lot of money for it.

The ideal jaggerific racing expierience. Actualy, it's quite entertaining, and should not be overlooked, especialy by fans of the series.

When i first got this it was hard. Then i played it more and more, I used the slowest car and i beet the game in about 3-4 hours. The game is to short, when you beet it all you have are the time attacks and the races were you try to beet a fake computer guys(time attack).

And how the hell do you get medls!

I picked this up on sale... now I know why it was so cheap. Stick with the other racing games if you want to actually DRIVE a car. If, on the other hand, you want a game that doesn't even resemble racing, then by all means. The play control is absolutely terrible. I know that there is a so called style to the RR games, but this time it is really unrefined. The tracks are almost all the same, with very little variation. The announcer is perhaps even more annoying than the playcontrol, and the game takes forever to load, with many different confirmation screens to get through before actually racing. I thought the ability to design your own car down to the paint job was cool, but not enough. Oh yeah, and the girl on the box is really cute, but don't be fooled by that!

This is a grate game but vary short, once you learn the controlls its over. Also the onlly car i was able to actually drive was the slow one. I really dont care about the slow car becouse i beet the game with it but come on the game is to short and crashes...what crashes?

im not a gt3 fan because i like to just get in and drive...and this is what this game is about. get in and drive. infact this is the only way you will be able to own a car is to win series of races. this game can get a little boring..but also addictive.
