The ideal jaggerific racing expierience. Actualy, it's quite entertaining, and should not be overlooked, especialy by fans of the series.

Not the best game I've ever played, but still fun.

I just got my Playstation 2 last week and I've been renting as many games as I could get my hands on. Ridge Racer V was the best game I've played for the PS2 so far. I really enjoyed this game, and I think I'm gonna buy it. I gave it only four stars though, cuz it's not a great game but it is fun. I'm not really a racing game fan, but I liked this game. The announcer's actually kind of funny (in a stupid sort of way), especially when he mispronounces "comfort." The control's aren't that bad, although I've never played Gran Turismo, so I've got nothing to compare with. I got the hang of it by the second day. Sliding around the corners gets annoying sometimes, as you have to adjust to each cars individual handling abilities. This game brought me into the racing genre, and now I too am awaiting the release of Gran Turismo 3 in June.

Not the greatest

Compared to the other racing games avalible for the playstation 2 this one just doesn't match up. Granted it can be fun, but I would look into other games first

Ridge Racer V:Good graphics, Bad Gameplay and Bad Soundtrack

I got Ridge Racer V from my Playstation 2 package, and it was a good start for a racing game. The graphics are good, the city around looks some what real, and the cars look believeable. But this game lacks good gameplay. You could start the car at 5th gear, and computer players aren't good competitors. The game play is unrealistic. It doesn't even feel like you're driving a car. Replay is pretty cool, except that it doesn't show all of it. I don't really like the courses they have for you to race on. They all look the same, except for airport oval. I also think there should be more courses. Ugh, what is this music? The soundtrack is lousy, they need a decent soundtrack to listen to while driving. This game came out early with the Playstation 2, and it looks to me like they rushed it a bit. If the makers paid more attention to gameplay. I would say rent it first, and then if you like it, buy it. If you have Gran Turismo 3 already, don't bother.

This game just doesn't do it for me...

RR V came with my PS2 bundle so I can't say I wasted money on it. I was just happy to finally get a PS2. Anyway, the graphics are amazing as you would come to expect on the PS2 platform. The music is fantastic. There are some awesome techno tracks. The car selection is cool. You can even choose a little modified Honda Civic Hatchback. I have played this game for about two months, off and on as I get bored with my sports games (madden, fifa, etc...) and it is decent. I am not a big car racing person so I guess my review is a little more negative than most but this one just has more negatives than positives. I hate the following: 1) The announcer is lame. The whole deal is some radio DJ announcing the race coverage in a "So Cal" voice. I thought I had one of the members of Blink 182 in my TV...Dude! 2) The steering sucks. I like to have a car that hugs the curves not one that slides around like a pig in mud on a rainy day in July. 3) The car never gets damaged. I hit a wall going 110 and the car just slides off...wish my real car did that. 4) The game is hard, but hey I already told you I am not into car games. I will take you on in Madden any day of the week! My advise: Rent before you buy!

Not the best, but no bad

The graphic is excellent, I think any PS2 game should have that. It is too few cars to choose from and they are just clones, no real name here. In normal or hard mode, if you make a mistake while racing, it is almost impossible for you to win. After the first lap and you are not at least 5th rank, you should just quite and replay the track. Try easy mode and pick the Civic clone to start, it is more fun if you don't crash all the time. After all it is a descent game. If you want the best racing game, wait for GT3. If you want to have some racing fun right now, try RR5.

It's just like all the rest ...just better graphics

It's a cool game if you like driving games. There's really no suprises I think the programers need to play Gran Turismo a few times just so they can see how the handling should be.

just plain bad

The worst game I've ever played. It is hard to control and you spin out all the time. Most of the tracks aren't that exciting either. Really, don't get it.

This game was OK

This game was cool because of the different cars(There were 7 standard and 7 Extra), the graphics were pretty good, and the courses were also pretty cool. The game was too easy though and I ended up getting about 7 cars in 2 days. I've almost beaten the game and all I have to do is race in one more Gran Prix (Which I will probably win anyway.) Even the slowest of the cars could beat the other cars in the races. Although I never use the brakes on video games, I just take my finger off the acceleration button and slow the car down just a little, mostly on turns so I don't crash into the wall. In this game however, when your turning and you take your finger off the buttton then put your finger back on, car car skids around the turn and you can loose control of the car very easily and gets annoying if your not used to it. I think I would enjoy the game better if there were more challenging competitors and tracks. There was also something on it called "99 Trial." This was actully where you do 99 laps arond a given course and you see if you can beat the time that the computer already has. The computer had the best time at 1 hour and 40 minutes! I didn't even try that yet because I don't have too much free time to play a video game for 2 hours. It was a pretty good game though. You can't compare it to any of the Nintendo 64 games, this one was much better.

Ridge Racer Lacks Fun

The graphics for this game was pretty good, but it definitely takes a long time to get used to the turns, and you can get bored with this game very quickly. If you really love racing games then this is more of your speed, but if you are the casual fan like I then I would tell you to say away from this game or rent it first. I have 5 PS2 games, and this is the game that I play the least. I would wait for the Gran Turismo game, only because I have enjoyed those games in the past.
