Best version of Rayman 2.

If you've never heard of this game before, or have played Rayman 3 or Rayman 1 and somehow missed this for some reason, definitely pick this one up. It is undoubtebly my favorite version of Rayman 2, though the original was still very awesome on the N64. (Though some say the Dreamcast version was the best.) I personally loved this game the first time I played the original on my friends N64, and now that this version has a much cooler free-roam styled world, better graphics, different languages for the voice acting such as Deutsch or the original Raymanian from the original version of Rayman 2. If you are thinking of getting Rayman 2 and do not have an N64, Dreamcast, or DS, certaintly get this awesome PS2 version. (If you don't have a PS2, I strongly suggest against getting the DS version. Its horrible camera angles and smaller screens will frustrate you more than entertain you as this revolutionized PS2 version will.) All in all, buy this game NOW! It's definitley worth it, even if you're not a hardcore platformer.

I'm not your typical game nut. As evidence, I just finally finished this game after first starting it 5 years ago. I'm also female, and in my early 30s. I game very infrequently, and I'm very particular in what I like: I don't like dying, and I don't like fighting in my games. Rayman 2: Revolution does involve both of those factors, but they're a very minor part of the game, so it's OK.

The factors that kept me coming back to the game when I allowed myself time to play were the fun cartoonish 3-D animation and the challenge of hunting down and puzzling out how to get at all the collectable lums while exploring a wide variety of pretty and interesting locations. There were a few battles required, but once I got the techniques figured out each time (and it's different every time, which keeps things interesting), it was just a matter of refining my execution. A lot of the game play required coordination to do the tasks, whether that was guiding a flying vehicle through an obstacle course at high speed or timing shots correctly during a battle, but you get a lot of chances to try the tasks before "dying", and dying just means you get sent a little further back in the game (and you get to keep any lums collected before dying). I often got frustrated with the physical coordination tasks, but I just kept trying and finally beat them, and usually felt that much better for the challenge required.

This game is long enough and complex enough that I might play it again, trying to get more lums and play more of the mini games within it, and I'd definitely play a sequel done in a similar style. There were a number of minor glitches in the game, including occasional sounds that would get stuck in an infinite loop and other odd lockups, but as long as you save regularly, it's not a big deal to reset the console and start again from the last save point. I think this is a game that will hold up well over time, and is quite enjoyable for atypical gamers (and probably the typical ones too).

Solid Platformer with a some flaws

As a huge fan of the platform genre I purchased this game after the many positive reviews I read of this game. First Off, I would have to say that I was very impressed with the diversity and the rich colorful graphics of the game. I was also very impressed with the camera and character control which I feel was one of the best I've experienced in any platformer yet.

Many people keep saying that this game isn't any good because it's not as nice looking as Jak & Daxter nor a fun as Spyro or Crash and I would have to agree. One reason for this is that Rayman is not these games, but nonetheless it's a wonderful gaming experience. I know this is a first gen PS2 title and there are tons of better looking games on the market, but I would have to say that I really liked the atmosphere and environments of Rayman. The game was a little slow moving at first but if you have a little patience the intensity of the game will beging to increase as well as the fun factor. It may seem a little childish at times, which to me was fine, but if you need a little more maturity you can always slap GTA3 into your PS2 and get your fix.

I gave this game a 4 instead of a 5 for a couple reasons; which seemed minor in the beginning but became very frustrating as the game progressed. The were as follows:

1. The constant loading and then asking you if you want to save was very very annoying, probably the worst I have ever experienced. There are times when you will come out of loading and then go thru a door or down a path and immediately be asked to save or continue and then the game would start to load again. I know this may sound like I'm overreacting, but when you have to go back and forth between areas, this becomes a real pain in the A**... real fast.

2. There is quite a bit of aliasing (jaggies) during the game although it is not overwhelming it is noticeable.

3. The voice acting was subpar and low in volume. There were times when I just couldn't make out what the heck the characters were talking about or what my next mission objective was.

Overall this game is a solid experience and ,especially at the new reduced price, a solid PS2 purchase. It may not be the flashiest or most original title on the market, but what it lacks in luster in makes up in spades with consistency.

Not worth your money and time, buy something else!!

My intention with this review is to provide a rather different oppinion from most reviews here which qualify this game with an average 4.5 stars. I purchased this game for my son for two reasons: The price drop and the excellente reviews. I had no previous knowledge of Rayman, so I came unbiased to play it. I own 3 titles from Spyro the Dragon (games that have always satisfied my son) Jak and Daxter (PS2) and Crash Bandicoot "Wrath of Cortex" (Xbox), and my son plays all of them very regularly. I personally like these games very much so I expected Rayman 2 to be a great platformer game. Well, the thing is that my son played Rayman 2 for about an hour and a half and never picked it up again, I myself had to play it in order to understand what was wrong, but then I understood him.
First: the graphics, I have read in every review, even the newer ones, that the graphics are excellent and so on. Well, to my opinion the graphics can not even match Spyro 3 on the PSOne, they are graphics that are ok for an early launch on the PS2 but can not be compared to the possibilities that we are getting today, and I refer in this case to Jak and Daxter, where the developers (Naughty Dog) have done a beautiful job on this subject. Second: the voice acting, what can I say, I personally found the constant whispering (instead of real voices) very annoying, I even thought there was some kind of malfunction in the CD because of this, until I realized that those whispers WERE the voices. Third: the story, even though it is a typical platform story, there is no fun in it, I personally found it very boring, and I couldn't play it for more than half hour before I could fall asleep.
I truly wish that I could find something good about this game, but the truth is that I had to sell it one day after I got it, neither my son nor I liked this game. If you truly want to play a good platformer then go for Jak and Daxter, there is no comparison (great graphics, hilarious voice acting -even in spanish-, good story and lots of fun), or wait for the PS2 version of Spyro the dragon, or even play the PSOne versions of Spyro, I can assure you that you will have more fun with those than you will with Rayman 2. I was deceived by the price drop and the good reviews, and made a terrible mistake: wasted [money], so don't fall for the same, this game can only and hardly diserve the one star I gave it.

Wow. when I first purchased rayman 2 Revolution, I never expected to receive such an exilarating game. From beautiful and stunning graphics, to huge and very entertaining levels, Rayman contained all of the aspects that contributed to make an amazing and rare game. Some of the great qualities of Rayman 2 revolution were: spectacular graphics, wonderful voice acting and hearing aides, massive levels, great mini games, loveable characters, great storyline, and just raw and plain out FUN! But, to every yin, there is a yang, which in this case, the yang are the CONS or the less adequate qualities of this game which conclude of: pesky camera angles, and although this is a fantastic game, it lasted me a short 14 hours which isnt very long. But besides those 2 Cons, this game is a must have for anyone who owns a playstation 2. this game is my favorite game out of the games i own. my suggestion is, if you see this game anywhere which is now currently being sold for 19.99, you should purchase it right away because it is really worth the price ... Go out and buy this game right away! GOOD LUCK!

The orignal on DreamCast was fun, and this port doesn't fall through the cracks. Believe it or not, a bad port can ruin a good game....but RayMan2 for the PS2 holds the magic that the original had. It looks good and it plays good...the part is, anyone can play it. Parents don't need to worry about young kids playing this....it's appropriate for everyone. This game is a great example of 3D Platforming done right...hopefully RayMan3 will be just as good, maybe better! Great game, and makes you anticipate the next one.

A must own title, no need to rent this one.

I gave this game a 5 star because it has a lot of action and the graphic are colorful ans very smooth. In this game you get to climb, run, shoot, fly, ect. the best part of the game is when you get to fly a pirates ship. I had the old Rayman 2 on playstation and this game is A LOT BETTER then the playstation one. The Playstation 2 one is alot different then the playstation one so if you have or haven't played the old one you sould try this one out.

This is a really good platform game. In a free-roaming world, you go to different stages, and usually the goal is to complete the stage. It's what you might expect from a 3D platform game; lots of jumping, swinging, flying, climbing, shooting and it's fun. You've got to ride the rockets, it's just a blast! The levels have a really big size, but they're not too realistic. There is a world map which has groups of levels in the "stone circles" which are like Stonehenge. There are a number of "lums" (firefly things) that you can collect in every level, so there is several extra hours of replay value just to beat it once. There are a few levels where Rayman slides down a long slope and you must direct him; these are the most fun of all! You must fight the pirates, who are ravaging your land. The music is great. The camera could be improved. The final stage is really hard. As a platformer, it might be rivaled by Jak & Daxter, but the price is so reasonable it's truly worth it.
