Good Game

Knockout Kings for ps2 is not perfect, but it is the best boxing game I have ever played. Only problems with the games is, the loading time. If you are playing career mode, the loading time between rounds seems like a waste of time. The create a boxer could be a little more detailed orientated, and if Mike Tyson and Felix Trinidad was included, that game would be 5 stars.

A very good boxing game, at least for now.

The graphics are very good, especially the tattoos and hairstyles of the various boxers. There are lots of real boxers in here, including (to my surprise) a local boxer in my area named Diego Corrales. There is a wide range of music to choose from to be your entrance music, and all sorts of "attitudes" you can choose from. The AI is better than the original, as now the opponent knows when to avoid you at all costs and knows when to trade blows. It can be frustrating when you know that if you land one more haymaker, the opponent will go down. Unfortunately, he knows that as well, and he's avoiding you until the end of the round.

The drawbacks of this game is in the Create a Boxer mode, where actually the options are pretty limited. Loading time is also a hassle, but when you are at the title screen, you can go to options and turn off the cutscenes. This eliminates all waiting between rounds. Actually I almost wanted to turn it back on because my forearm was starting to get sore from all that non-stop button mashing! More drawbacks include the training mode, which in my opinion improves the boxers too much. Another is the difficulty of the body/head combos. Body combos and head combos are easy to pull off, but when you try to mix the two, it's very difficult. Also there's this Special Punch feature which I don't think means anything, since I haven't figured out how to use it.

However, all in all, it's a pretty good boxing game. If you want to make it really challenging, make your fighter short, and you'll have fits trying to reach those six foot plus opponents.

Fun Game For a While

This was the first ps2 game I got. It is great fun at first, but it gets boring rather quickly. Knockout Kings 2000 is just as good, with the exception of the graphics. Nothing compares to the ps2! Rent it first and make sure you really like it. It's not for casual boxing fans.

All I can really say is, this game is probably the most fun game on the PS2. When you have friends over and have a slugfest, people really get into it and it is incredibly fun
