Major Disappointment

I owned the N64 Legends game. This was much better. The biggest complaint I have about this game is that unlike the N64 version you are unable to manage your inventory. Once you discover the super ability items you can't turn em off till they're used up. El Sucko. Do yourself a favor and avoid this pos.

What Gauntlet Legends was meant to be

My wife is as non-typical a gamer as they come. Therefore, it took me a bit back when she said the following, "Gauntlet Legends was actually a demo version of Gauntlet Dark Legacy" The more I thought about it, the more I realized how much wisdom she has gained the 14 years of our marriage. Were I to go and rate Legends for Dreamcast, I would rate it high as well. I can think of very few times that I was disappointed with that title. But, Dark Legacy introduced new standards that I hope stay the test of further sequels. Most elements of Legends remained in this update, a fact I loved. Nothing like being able to step into familiar territory, say hello to a few old friends (albeit friends who want your dismemberment). They kept some of the original realms from Legends, but with the power of the PS2, they now have far more detail and are easier to navigate. They also kept the characters, which is another nice touch. (I am a yellow wizard Gauntlet player, always have been, always will be.) Couple of areas where this game really shines. Thank you Midway for allowing food to be purchased in the shop. This was one (little) detracting point in Legends. Second, the music. Although they kept alot of the music from Legends, what they added as new really surprised me. Face it, dedicated gamers rarely play a Gauntlet title for the music, so I didn't expect much there. Midway added some very nice, moody music to the game. What they used for the Ghost Town area in the Forsaken Province reminds me of music in the Resident Evil series. It just matches it so well. I haven't been able to hook my PS2 to my digital receiver yet, but that day is coming. After seeing one disappointing title after another come out for Playstation 2, this one is a real gem. (Onimusha Warlords is the one detraction) Fans of Gauntlet on any system should pick this title up.

This has to be one of the best strategy type multi player games that I have every played. The graphics are pretty good and there is a action every place has enemys that are easy to beat and they all come at you at once, all you have to do is use magic or swing your weapon. I would not recomend this game for a single player multi player is way better.

This is an awesome game because it has the awsome characters, realms, and bosses! My favorite character is the knight. The minotaur is the best I have used so far. He has good speed, remarkable strength, sort of good defense, but bad magic! The blue knight is my favorite knight. Ithink the green Knight is pretty cool to. The yellow knight looks like an egyptian. But the red looks kind of ugly to me, because he looks like a viking with an extra-large beard and it also looks like the beard is so thick that it could knock out Lich until he was defeated! (I don't want to affend you so that is why I am saying no affense!)

This Will Be...MUST be Fun!~!

I cant wait 4 this to come out cause i have played mostly the first gaunlet game ever created and even though the graphics r a bit horrible, its still 1 of the best. I have played the Gaunlet game on dreamcast and although it might be only ok as a single player game, it kicks as a multiplayer. I suggest this game to all (except 4 the guy who gave it 1 star) who like to play with friends cooperativly. Buy this game ASAP or if ur still not sure about it, rent it then buy it

BORING

First of all this game has some of the worst graphics on the PS2. I often found myself shooting my own partner in multi play because all the creatures look the same. Also, the levels are best described as flat, boring, and linear, with absolutely no challenge. The player characters and enemies are all the same with about two basic attacks each(actually the special attacks are kinda cool). Oh and the characters you can unlock through completing bonus levels are basically clones of other characters with different color clothes. Another thing that really bugged me about this game were the bosses. Usually in an RPG the bosses are imaginative, unique and challenging. But in Gauntlet if you happen to find a super "holy" item you instantly kill the boss. Where's the fun in that? If you really think you'll like this game please rent it first!

Can you say REHASH?

well, for starters, hahaha. you know, i'll never recommend this game to anyone that already owns gauntlet legends (GL). Why you ask. because it'd be no different than going to the store & buying the exact same game. same game you say? well, maybe not entirely, but it could've been a whole lot better..

for starters, the game engine used is a HARDLY tweaked version of the GL engine. they added a few (4 is it, and it doubles the cast of characters, but hardly improves upon them, as the "3D" models are SO low on the poly count, i'd gladly sacrafice them to see graphics up to par of.. any other PS2 game?

Also, the game gets horribly boring after a very short while, degrading into a sad display of button mashing in an eventually disinteresting game. The game has a measly 1, yes, 1 new area for you to easily conquer.

Why easy? because the A.I. is horrible. I don't think the enemy character's ability to fight back has improved since my first encounter w/ Gauntlet, back on my Apple IIc.

The enemy characters (either a standard sized zombie/undead walking type, or a smaller, crawling spider/dog type) do nothing more than walk towards you. yes, that's all. when they get to you they swing/bite/sting/whatever until you move towards them and "kill" them, or do a normal attack and hit them before they reach you. The 2 exceptions being a suicide ogre/goblin type that occaisionally shows up w/ a exploding barrel on his back, and he'll blow up when touched/shot. also, there are either bomb lobbers or acchers that offer the only ranged enemy attacks.

more you ask? well, to make the game unnecessarily longer, you have to not only go through all of the different "lands" in the kingdom to defeat each boss character and steal their key, but you also need to find 2-3 rune stones in each "land", these are necessary to be able to unlock the fight w/ the final boss of the game, without them you have to basically start over. (to be able to travel to the last "land", you have to sacrafice your keys. so if you're missing any stones when you do this, you have to replay the game to be able to fight the final boss..

did i say anything good about the game? i'm not sure, but it's so incredibly disappointing, i'd rent it if i were you before you buy it. please, i'm begging you!

ps. btw, the only reason it got 2 stars is because they managed to port it pretty much perfectly from the arcade, which is not always easy.

if you already hit to purchase this, i guess you haven't. Guantlet legends was a terrible game for the N64, that included swarms of monsters, and awkward camera angles. From the many problems, it created a chalenge. The game was no longer a game, it was a task. Not fun at all. Now a sequel. The game is totally based on graphics. Like most ps2 games, the companies spend their time on grpahics and disregard the gameplay. If this is anything like the original, which this game was reviewed to be like in japan, then you might want to look into a different game.
