Good Huntin'!

I disagree with reviews that knock the graphics, esp. the "fogginess". After sniping a barely visible mountain goat through dense fog from 340 feet away by tracking and anticipating its movements, I knew this was a great and challenging hunting game. Plenty of different game animals, terrains, weapons and tactics to choose from make this a must for fans of this game genre.

Reindeers are my favourite animals

In this game you are a deer hunter. You have 8 diiferent weapons at different locations. In this game you have other animals such as brown bears, elks, mooses, mountain goats and grizzly bears. You should make more hunting games.

Really Descent Game

I now own and have played all of the hunting games for the PS2 that have come out thus far, Deer Hunter being my latest buy. When I first started playing this game I was impressed with the clean crisp graphics and the gameplay seemed just okay. Now that I know what Im doing and how all the features work I can clearly say that this is an awesome fun game. You can adjust your difficulty level to however challenging you want the game which is good. The graphics are truely excellent with better and longer zoom range with your riflescope than in other ps2 hunting games. Animals AI is a little off meaning sometimes you can just walk up to an animal and he wont run if he sees you. You can carry plenty of equipment with you unlike other ps2 games and you can also choose from a wide variety of equipment. The sounds of the game are respectable but a little repetitive as if there was a tape playing over and over again of the same animal making noise. As far as the hunting trip itself it is great you can climb well shoot well aim well see well lure well and depending on what difficulty mode your playing in you can have a bullet pointer compass guide you in the direction of the animal nearest you. Season mode allows for objective based hunting from one location to the next, quick hunt, tournament hunt, online hunting. This game has a lot to offer. My recommendation is this game is well worth it especially at its low price of $20 you wont be disappointed once you get the game going. NOW GO BUY!!!

Fun Hunting game (especially online)

I bought this along with a couple of other games for my husband's birthday. He really enjoys this. I had bought him the cabela's games but he prefers this one because of the online and the more realistic graphics. I have also started playing this, and it's a lot of fun. The forests are really well done, with birds and squirrels all over the place, waterfalls, lakes etc. The animals are really hard to shoot, and it is overall very challenging.

Hunter Bots!

I don't have an online connection but I found out this game has hunter bots you can hunt against. What a blast. The hunting levels look great especially all the different seasons, they look really incredible. Very realistic animal behaviours, at least compared to what i've actually hunted. Big time fun.

Over-rated

This game is highly over-rated - it has almost identical load times to the other hunting games out there but utterly terrible graphics. Why is every area dull and foggy? Why doesn't the sky change when it rains or the sun comes up? Why do the animals run around in circles? Why did my wife's character change into a man between games? Very disappointed over this one, ATARI you should be ashamed - NOT recommended.

My boys love the split-screen play & no waiting for loading

My boys play this game all the time. They love it. This game looks much better than all the other hunting games we have tried. Finally they can both play at once and I don't have to hear them fight over who gets to play. The hunting areas are really big and the game doesn't stop to load all the time like the Cabela games. Also, you are not surrounded by mountains or feel like you are hunting animals trapped in a bowl. This is as life like as it gets. The animals look and move very realistically. Your character also doesn't get tired all the time which is another thing we hate about Cabela games. This is the real deal.

LET'S KILL SOME FURRY LITTLE WOODLAND CREATURES!!!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 16 / 19

Usually the only type of games I play are racing / driving games. I don't know what made me buy this game ( I've never hunted in real life, am a pacifist and hate killing ), but I am very glad I did because this is a very enjoyable game. I think the graphics are great, the hunting lands are quite big and full of wonderful furry woodland creatures to slaughter.

You can chose from bows and arrows, rifles, and shotguns and hunt in 8 different locations. The animals you can "bag" are many varieties of deer, elk, moose, black bears, brown bears, grizzly bears, mountain lions, bighorn sheep and, although they are non-game animals, rabbits, foxes, wolves and opposums.

When you first start the game you can hunt in only two places, you must hunt in season mode and do certain things to unlock additional areas. It is a blast to do and I enjoyed it a lot. You can hide in a blind and wait for your prey to walk by and kill the unsuspecting critter or take to the trees in a tree stand and kill whatever walks below your perch. It's great!

The game is rated T for teen because of "blood and violence" the box says. Well, I've done quite a bit of hunting the past two days and while there has been considerable violence I've seen NO blood.

So, if you don't mind a little senseless slaughter and want to experience the thrill of the hunt in the comfort of your own house, this game is for you. So come on, let's go hunt Bambi and Smokey and Bullwinkle and friends, you'll have a great time. I'm not kidding!

ADDENDUM: Since writing this review I've played this game some more and have now noticed there IS blood in the game. When you do not kill your prey but only wound it, it runs off and eventually dies but leaves a trail of blood on the ground for you to follow. Adds even more realism to the game I think. -George Bauch.

this game stinks

On the other reviews it says the cabela games takes tons of load time and doesn't have good graphics, I think they mixed up the games. this game stinx, it has bad graphics and is nowhere near a match to any Cabela game that came out during the time this game came out. The only reason I have not sold it is because it has online capabilities which is a first for a hunting game.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a WINNER !

I had been waiting with baited breath for this, and I cannot reccomend it highly enough. It has the best outdoor graphics I have seen on a PS2 and the levels are HUGE! no little valleys and then loading here... Just one load and you can explore a huge level hunting for deer, moose, even mountain lions and bears. There are little critters like squirrels and raccoons for target practice. The atention to detail is incredible. Leaves fall from the trees in the fall and the animals kick up dust and splash as they run through water ! The vehicles are very easy to control, actually being useful as opposed to a liability. The weapons are great and replicate the real world weapons very well. The fact that the designers included a split screen two player mode is a first for hunting games and is a worthwhile addition. I have a great time playing with my friends, as we hunt down animals in torney mode. The online is astounding. The other hunters appear exactly as you set them up and instead of the weapons just appearing their hands when you change them, the hunter actually reaches back into his pack and gets out the new weapon. Stalking through the woods for a prize buck and then spotting someone 100yds away sighting in on YOUR buck is a real rush as you try and bag it first. The AI on the animals is great and they are hard to kill! The graphics on the animals are great and the trophy room is presented as a museum style with all of your animals presented in brilliant dioramas ! All in all a very polished game and the only one you should get for PS2
