I disagree with reviews that knock the graphics, esp. the "fogginess". After sniping a barely visible mountain goat through dense fog from 340 feet away by tracking and anticipating its movements, I knew this was a great and challenging hunting game. Plenty of different game animals, terrains, weapons and tactics to choose from make this a must for fans of this game genre.
Rent it, don't buy it.

I looked at some screenshots and a video (found em on google), and the graphics don't look much better than old PS1 games. I feel bad for reviewing it so low, but the PC version is pretty bad, and the screenshots are terrible. I wouldn't buy this one till some of the real good reviewers like PlayStation magazine mebbe review it. Or rent it, if they take it at Blockbuster.
you have got to be kidding...

This game looks terrible... The sereenshots are some of the worst I have seen. Where are the animals? The deer hunter series has continuously gotten worse over the years, and this looks like it should top them off. The launch titles for the Sony Playstation games, such as SSX, or fantavision have more realistic looking environments than this "hunting" title does. Online play? Why would I want to play a hunting game Online with 8 other people? Are you going to race each other to bag the biggest deer? what kind of hunting sim is this? and if you're in Co-Op what does the person do who doesn't have the gun? Do you line up and choreograph your shots to hit the animal from different sides at the same time? This just seems silly.
If this title were in the 9.99 bargin bin, I might consider it for a coaster. ...an Experienced and disappointed Outdoorsman
Killing Innocent Deer For Enjoyment???

This game is cruel and heartless. Killing innocent deer for enjoyment is supposed to be fun? Hunting for sport is unhumane. Come on, what's wrong with Mario?
My kids played this game at a friends' house, and my 6 year old asked me if he could go hunting. Now, this is just my opinion, but, to all the parents: Come on, buy your kids a game like Tony Hawk or Crash Bandicoot!
This game is rated T for terrible!

This game is highly over-rated - it has almost identical load times to the other hunting games out there but utterly terrible graphics. Why is every area dull and foggy? Why doesn't the sky change when it rains or the sun comes up? Why do the animals run around in circles? Why did my wife's character change into a man between games? Very disappointed over this one, ATARI you should be ashamed - NOT recommended.
this game stinks

On the other reviews it says the cabela games takes tons of load time and doesn't have good graphics, I think they mixed up the games. this game stinx, it has bad graphics and is nowhere near a match to any Cabela game that came out during the time this game came out. The only reason I have not sold it is because it has online capabilities which is a first for a hunting game.
Very disappointed

I'm not sure who reviewed the title as good, but I was very disappointed when I received my copy today. It did not help that the very first thing I did was turn my character to look at the horse, only to have the camera go INTO the horse and look down inside him. :(
Anyway, my thoughts:
Graphics:
On the same level as the original playstation 1, could not believe it was on the ps2. All of the trees look identical, in every region, you can hardly tell the difference between Montana, BC and Wisconsin - I've been to all three, and this game doesn't look like any of them. There's some kind of dark grey barrier in the distance in every area, although animal shadows show through(?). As well as looking the same, the hunting areas are dull and drab. The hunter's movement looks terrible (I think this character has some kind of medical condition!). The animals move smoothly but up close their skins look terrible. Animals move through trees and rocks almost constantly, too, which is very odd.
Gameplay:
Great slow motion lazer effect, it was strange at first but a really nice feature. If you like hunting games, you'll like the gameplay style - hunt, complete hunting based challenges, use lures, scents, and equipment, as you'd expect. It's irritating that even in day mode you can't choose from any of the hunting locations, and there is no objective list, so it's tough to figure out what the objectives for day hunts are.
Audio:
Highly repetative, both between seasons and locations, to the extent that I turned it down. Sound track is usual for the atari hunting games.
Overall:
The graphics shame the PS2's capabilities, enough to distract from the game's few good points. I don't mind playing older games that don't look fantastic, but this is supposed to be a new release. In a few hours I'd come across some huge bugs, one that stopped me playing day hunts, and another that stopped my son and I playing two player. I've not been able to get tech support yet, and if I'd purchased the game at a store, I'd have taken it back by now.
Fun Hunting game (especially online)

I bought this along with a couple of other games for my husband's birthday. He really enjoys this. I had bought him the cabela's games but he prefers this one because of the online and the more realistic graphics. I have also started playing this, and it's a lot of fun. The forests are really well done, with birds and squirrels all over the place, waterfalls, lakes etc. The animals are really hard to shoot, and it is overall very challenging.
This is going to be awesome !

This is the hunting game I have been waiting for. It will have 2 player split screen hunting so me and my dad can hunt at the same time, and I can set up hunting parties online and play with my buddies, or anyone else. Deer Hunter has always been the best series of hunting games and this one just looks amazing from the screenshots I have seen. There are actual forests in this. Most of the other games make you hunt in parks with very few trees. You can even ride a horse, and there are muzzle-loaders for old school hunters like my grandpa. I can't wait for this game !
