More Fun then reviews lead one to believe...

By far this is not a perfect game. therefore I shall attempt to review it on its own merits. it is a bit of a diablo hack & slash clone (which I like!) it is bland and the sound can get annoying but for those of you that liked Gauntlet seven sorrows or Gauntlet Dark Legasy then this might be for you since the formula is so similar! you "level up" more through equipment then any of the standard rpg systems BUT ive played a little game called Jade Cocoon (sorta like dark cloud 1) and this is almost exactly the same play mechanics. so for 5 to 10 bucks its a diablo light version for anyone that likes hack & slash rpg's. gauntlet fans might want to give it a rantal (or buy since renting is about 5 bucks) its definately underrated true theres minimal story but in Hack & Slash games sometimes I really don't want to be annoyed by cinimatic sequences every 5 minutes, sometimes I just prefer Mindless Killing. and the wealth of enemies are enough for anyone here! (albeit a bit endless at times) 3 stars in general but 4 stars for fun factor! if you dont need FF (insert #) cinimatics or drop dead graphics.

Overall Rating: 3 stars.

Sound: 2 stars repetitive and few songs.

Fun: 4 stars if multi player had been added this could have been far better. as it is the hack and slash elements are good.

Graphics: dungeons are ok, towns a bit bland and unpopulated, Creatures look Sweet and are varied! 3 1/2 stars

I Own BG Dark Alliance 1 and 2 and also bards tale, Champions of norrath and at arms! so I am well versed on the subject of hack & slash. I do feel with more polish and more time (it feels very rushed) this game could have been a title like Baldurs gate or champions of norrath. Unfortunately the developers felt they had to rush this one onto the shelf but its a good distraction for a day or two.

NO STARS IF I COULD

I'd give this poor excuse for a RPG or Adventure game no stars if I could. I've been continuosly disappointed in the RPG's PS2 has put out to this point and this one is the worst of them all. PS2 has yet to release a half way decent RPG yet. DARK CLOUD utterly [stank]..., but back to DARK ANGEL - the game takes seeming forever loading up then you're dropped within the middle of a battle leaving you not knowing what the hell is going on, then you finish the battle, still no story, next town, no story and fight some more and continue fighting through another dungeon, town or forest. This game may keep you entertained for about 30 minutes if you're easily entertained, if not you'll be lucky to be able to withstand playing it for more than 10 minutes. Graphics completely suck (Mega Man for the original NES had better graphics) and music was practically unoticable. You might as well burn the manuel, it doesn't do you any good, come to think of it you might as well burn the damn game (THAT'D BE MORE ENTERTAINING).

If I could, I would give it -5 stars

I rented this game from my local John's Video. I brung it home and started playing. I immediatly started fighting. Fighting. That is the only thing you do in this game. No story or plot,no character development, no nothing. I seriously considered sueing the makers for this. After 1 hour (the longest I've heard anyone has played this game besides me is exactly 45.64523432 seconds) it was tucked back into it's case, never to be touched again... Long story short, only play this game if you are a [person] who likes to waste time and money.

Crashing Disappointment

The game begins after an obscenely long loading period. You sit in anticipation waiting to see a spectacular opening sequence and suddenly find yourself looking at a bunch of little figures roaming about in circles and realize the game has begun. What's more you're right in the middle of a battle!

I had to reboot the first time I played thinking I missed something or pressed the start button accidentally skipping the intro. This game is simply the biggest waste of money on the video game market. It looks and plays like a Nintendo game from 1990 and absolutely has no plot or structure that would encourage further game play.

I wish I'd never opened the box. However, since I was stuck with it I thought I'd give it a chance. I rated this game one star because the graphics and atmosphere were noble in their attempt. However, there are no towns to explore, the dungeon maps show you were everything is located including monsters, and there is absolutely no character development despite the pseudo-role-playing feel.

Good heavens! What were they thinking?

I thought this game said it had something to do with vampires. I been fascinated with vampire lore for a long time and love some of the games that follow the old stories. I guess I was looking for more of a Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain or Soul Reaver slant but guess what no dice. This game wasn't by any means hard or challenging. Total waste of what I paid for it in my opinion. The sound tracks were well done but the storyline left a lot to be desired. I am a pretty avid gamer and have a good knowledge of a game that deserves to be played or not and this one is almost no worth renting. There are far better things to do with your time no matter how pitiful your life is trust me. Skip it Move on and get over it before it consumes you completely.

I'm not going to give you many of my opinions on this game because there's no point. There's no shortage of opinion as far as how this game is. If you want to see how absolutely outstanding this game is, simply look at all the reviews below singing praises about this wondrous game. Let's just say, if you like repetition (I.E. Dark Cloud) times 30,000, you'll love this game.

Why we're forced to give this even ONE star I don't know...

This game is not a Role playing game. As some other reviews have said, a role playing game is something like Phantasy Star (of which I have played all four of the originals... I still find II and IV the most fun, strange as it may seem to some) - but my favorites have always been PSI and the original Final Fantasy. They were for low-grade systems, and this game plays as if it were made for a low-grade system, in my opinion. It really uses NONE of the PSX-2's special capabilities, and that's a waste of energy and effort - what's the point of having the ability to have movies, speech, animations and character depth if you don't use it?. Don't even bother renting it. It's a waste of space. You'd hope they'd have spent more time, with the effort put in to calling it an RPG, partly, in MAKING it an RPG.

I thought this game was kind of boring. You just go around swinging a sword and killing things. The music was okay.
