Don't Do It

If you are a fan of some of the better simulation games, like the SimCity series, or even Tropico, etc., don't buy this game. The graphics are substandard, the gameplay is boring and unimaginative, and the interface is less than intuitive. This game is a blatant attempt to cash in on the reputation of some of the more succesful and better-made tycoon games.

Get this game if you like wasting your money!

PC GAME REVIEW:

Basically, the game involves building and running a shopping mall.

I got the game, because the pictures of the game on the box gave the impression that it would be a fun game to play. Also, I spend a lot of time at the mall, so I thought this game would be really fun, because it had two of the things I really like--the mall, and video games.

Unlike most simulation (SIM) games, which is fun to play for hours then gets boring after a while, this game is boring from the start! The animations are awful, and it slows down my computer quite frequently!

I wouldn't suggest this game to anybody. If you're looking for a great SIM game, I suggest getting "The Sims" and its expansion packs.

Mall Tycoon or Unemployed Manager

I bought this hoping it would be better than the first and so far I am disappointed. At first, it wasn't compatible with my TNT2 card and it took them nearly 3 months to come out with a patch so I could actually play it and now that I am, I wish I hadn't gotten the patch. The graphics are angular and buggy (go into first person mode and watch your shoppers walk through each other, yay!) There is no tutorial for the game, only sandbox and scenario modes which don't teach you anything except that no matter what you do, you will soon lose all your money and the game will end abruptly. The only way to make money to survive is to boost rent and profit takes from each store, but when you do this, they all go under and leave the mall and you're back to square one. In order to get customers to boost your mall rating, you have to continually research new items (which of course costs lots of money) and still, your mall will fail.
It would have been better if they would have included some sort of tutorial mode or hints page, but there are none. Even the online manual does nothing but tell you what all the buttons do. It does not tell you what each employee does or what their signifigance is. In all, this game is not worth the money or the frustration and until some working money cheats become available, its not worth playing.

Mall Tycoon is a waste of money.

Out of my own curiosity, I picked up Mall Tycoon at my local [store].... The cover on the box for this game looked exciting and thrilling. I could not wait to go home and play it. When I loaded it up on my computer, I was not a very happy camper. This game literally [stinks]. I don't know why they put this game on the market. It takes up tons of memory, and if you don't have it, you're pretty much [out of luck].

The graphics and music on this game are very cheap looking and sounding. You can tell that they really didn't test this game far enough before releasing it to the market. The instructions are only about 20 pages long, and they don't help at all. What amazes me is that there is almost no way to contact the manufacturor, who is some company called "Holistic". On the website,... there are no links or anything for direct help/support which is messed up. You're basically stuck with the game since you can't return it for already being opened out of it's package.

Don't even waste your time or money buying this game. It is horrible. You will fool yourself.

Don't waste your money!

I, like others, bought this game because of the nice graphics on the cover of the box. It looked like a pretty fun game, so I picked it up. I got home to discover that not only is it not like the cover of the box, it is the most boring game I have ever played! I played it for 5 minutes straight, before taking it out of my CD-ROM, and never putting it back in since. I would NOT recommend this game to ANYONE.

extremely disappointing tycoon

This game is not as good as it looks like on the box. For the money, The Sims is much better. There are known bugs in this software that cause the game to crash and lose all of it's settings. No patches have came out to improve the game or fix the bugs, and tech support is basically non-existant. Steer clear if you are looking for a good simulation game. You'll end up with a headache instead.

WORST GAME EVER!!!!

Seriously folks, save your money and buy something worthwhile. This game is not even worth one star! I have played a lot of games in my life and this is seriously the WORST GAME EVER!!!
You are forced to deal with choppy and unclear graphics, poor mouse control, limited control over the game, sloppy and uninteresting game-play which is mostly controlled by the computer. Example: there are vandals in your mall, hire more security guards - well, there are security guards every three feet it seems, but still the vandals are taking over - you have zero control over the characters you put in your mall.
The whole idea was great, and I was very excited to buy the game, but what a disappointment - to top it off, I emailed the company right after I bought it to ask if there was some reason that my game was so bad, and I am still awaiting a response.
I took it to a second-hand game dealer and he will give me $5 for it, so at least I can salvage that much back from it - unfortunately, the hours I spent trying to play the unplayable game will never be returned to me.
DON'T BUY THIS GAME - I repeat, it is not worth a nickle and should be pulled from any store shelves.

This game dosen't even deserve the one star I gave it! I saw this game at the store, and bought it considering how attractive the packaging is. I can't believe I wasted my money on such a piece of junk! First of all - if you're still ignoring all these horrible reviews, go to the official site (URL) and download the DEMO before you even buy this worthless piece of junk. I was so disappointed with this game - the longest I played it was for 10 minutes. I have better things to do then watch some horribly animated people walk around my computer screen and wait 5 hours for my mall to make any money. Save your money and buy a REAL game!

A BIG disappointment

I saw this game in a store and thought it looked great. I enjoyed Roller Coaster Tycoon, and wanted to try a new type of simulation game. All I can say is that I really feel it was a waste of money. The malls are simple enough to build (especially if you run the tutorial once), but there just isn't that much to do. The mall never seems to make much money, and the messages at the bottom of the screen are repetative. At one point I had about 15 security guards (They actually call them Men in Black), but there were still a lot of criminals in the mall. There is no way to direct the security personel, or the janitors, so even if you see a problem you have to wait and see if it will be taken care of.
I am sure that with enough time I could figure out how to turn a profit. The trouble is that the game is so boring I don't really have any interest in playing. The graphics are cute, but the whole thing gets old very quickly! If you like a game with a variety of options, and want to have control over the scenarios, this game is NOT going to be enjoyable to you.
*Save your money and go to a real mall instead*

Mess Mall

The real problem with Mall Tycoon, is the fact that it is not very interactive as far as gaming goes. You purchase store space of different types and then watch your customers go inside them.
When you open up a store, in your mall, you will notice that it already has a customer preloaded with the store! Sometimes you will see the same animations in a loop, like a kid jumping on top of a bed mattress or playing with toys in a toy store. you can place maintanance and security guards and all they do is walk around doing their loop animations. You cannot set paths for the workers- they just roam around like fools. You cannot purchase items for the stores, or choose the layout design inside them. Everything is premade and non-interactive=non fun. The music, sound and graphics and animations were very poorly done. Do not buy this game.
