Mall Tycoon sounds like an interesting fun game. I work in a large department store in a real mall so I thought this game was going to be fun. But unfortunately I was greatly disappointed. Not only do the graphics suck, the game gets boring real fast. You need the cheat codes like hdicash (hold crtl) to have enought money to really build and there really aren't many options for what to put in stores. And the department stores only let you put 4 things in it per level. I think at least 6 per level would have been better and maybe changing the way things look depending on which type of store you put it in would have been better too. Plus all of the people shopping look pretty much the same.
I also had a problem where my mall was over run by zombies that look like aliens and I had no way of getting my customers back and my mall employees kept getting "blocked" and being frozen and there is no way on fixing it or slecting which specific employees to fire. Or of getting employees to clean up trash when you want them too, you have to just hope they'll find it and come over and clean it up!
I guess I'm just used to actual good games like Roller Coaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon, and Sim City where there are more options, variety, control, better graphics... well better everything else.
This game isn't worth the money and I'm betting #2 isn't that much better either.
Maybe someday the poeple who made those other good games will make a good mall tycoon type of game, or even a department store tycoon! Until then one can only dream.

It is pretty Fun

Okay, I got this game at walmart for like 10 bucks because I was bored. I began to play it and I was pretty occupied, the graphics weren't that great but, yah, it kept me occupied. After about 3 days I got so bored with it, that I stuffed it in one of my drawers and never looked at it again for a long, long time. I played it a few times after that, but, it was only because there was absolutely nothing else at all that I could do.

Well, now I play it all the time. You know why, Cheat codes. With cheat codes you can make the ultimate mall and unlock everything without the wait. It is super fun and best of all, I'm not always bored. So, yes I highly recommend buying this if you use cheat codes, because without cheat codes it's like retarded. But yes, it is really fun and cheap.

Not bad...

After reading all the reviews that this game wasn't worth the purchase, I was a little reluctant to buy it. However, I decided to give it a shot since im a big tycoon game fan and found it to be not so bad as the reviews make it seem...

Good things:

Concept. Very nice idea. A mall is something very common and that most everyone is familiar with.

Choices. You have a lot of stores to choose from. Anywhere from food, clothes, technology, restaurants, cinemas, etc.

Length of challenges. Although they are ranked from easy to hard...the easy ones aren't that boring. You actually have the chance to spend some time on it. And if you win, you can keep playing.

Bad things:

Graphics: Although most of the stores are drawn nicely, the overall look of the graphics isn't too good. Not very clear images.

Secret stores. It takes a while for all of the stores to be unlocked. And if you are playing for a challenge, it's not convenient.

Money. Although the money is not spent incredibly fast, it does seem to be too little at some points. Like when putting floors and walls, it runs out very fast.

So overall, if you are a tycoon fanatic, you'll probably want to give it a shot. However, I do recommend that you use the cheats if you really want to get the full experience in the free play.

Hello earthlings, if u guys havnt got all the tycoon games, u r krazy. They r the best! i just got this game about a week ago, and i am an 13 year old girl, who is pretty much computer-smart, and it took me about an hour to figure out the basics, building, auto wall, build stores, kewl rides and water fountains, anyway, this game is kewl, but if u wanna get a GREATER THAN EVER IMAGINED BY KIDS game, get rollercoster tycoon, it has better graphics, sound effects, and over all control over what u build, BUT, rollercoaster tycoon IS NO DOUBT harder to learn how 2 play, because you can build more, and do more, and also, rollercoaster tycoon took me a year of trying before i finally got a rollercoaster built that the people liked (not too scary, not too dull) but it was SOOOOOOOOO worth it, buy both games, PLEEEEEEEEEZ!

Avoid this Mall at all costs

After Rollercoaster Tycoon's success, there have been an enormous amount of games with the "Tycoon" name. These games are trying to cash in on the success of Rollercoaster Tycoon and nearly every game has been an utter failure. Mall Tycoon is no exeption....The interface is horrendous, it involves a random assortment of multi-colored buttons for various tasks. There is no cohesions to the interface whatsoever. The graphics are very bad, and the game runs very poorly, often slowing down or crashing on fast systems.

In addition to a multitude of other flaws, and those listed above, the game just doesn't work. The concept is a novel one, unfortunately Take2 released a bomb here. Even the...price doesn't justify the horrible game, avoid this mall at all costs!

I dont own this game and im glad that i dont. I was playing it at a relatives house and it took me almost an hour to figure it out. its not that its hard its that there are too many controls and you get mixed up. Then, when you finally build your mall, its not fun! The people come in, by 1 thing and then leave. you can click on the person and over 80% of the time their little box says "leaving mall". Their is no point! Also, sometimes you get burgulers and the only way to stop them is to have cops around, but you cant control the cops so you have to buy a lot of them and spend more money! You have to research everything to get it. Workers, New events, new stores etc. Its frustrating! If you are going to buy it i wouldnt play for long periods of time. Some parts are fun if you get an atrium and have differnt events like kite shows and dog shows whatever.

Don't waste your money like I did

I saw Mall Tycoon in a store one day, and it looked intriguing. I have enjoyed SimCity and RollerCoaster Tycoon, so I thought this would be a good choice.

I was quite wrong. Mall Tycoon was one of the worst game purchases I have ever made. The game is fun for less than half an hour.

The gameplay is the same thing over and over again. Build stores, get people to come to the stores, build some more stores, get some more people. There is little variety in the different stores you can build, and the less-than-stellar graphics didn't improve my opinion of the game. Placing stores and different objects in the mall is an awkward and difficult process.

Every mall looked like the next, and there was nothing unique that made you want to continue playing. This game was a total loss.

I uninstalled it shortly after buying it, and it has sat in a far corner of my closet ever since. If you buy this game, you will regret it.

All the other Tycoon games I have tried out I loved, they all would be so much fun to play. So I bought this game thinking it would be the same, boy was a I wrong! This game stunk! The people aren't even drawings literally scribbles, and the mall that you build is a total bust! The features are poorly done and everything is so pathetic! If this was the first Tycoon game I bought I would never get another one! Luckily some of the other Tycoon games are better! :)
