The Bouncer has been one of the most anticipated games for the PS2, and it being a Square title, you'd figure that it's well worth the wait...but dear sweet lord, it's not. It's actually the worst excuse for a game that I've played in years, and Square should be ashamed of even putting this thing up for sale.
Basically, The Bouncer is a fighting game with hardly any actual combat...just loads and loads of cinemas. It's mostly a non-interactive, interactive movie, with a terrible story (something about a girl getting kidnapped by some mega-corporation with evil schemes), uninteresting and under-developed characters, and an awful game engine. This thing seems to have been created as an show-off vehicle for Square's art department, and it seems to be little more than self-indulgent demo. If you skip the skads of cinematics, you can breeze through this game in under an hour (!!!!!!) and once you've beaten it, you're supposed to go back and play with other characters to unlock more hidden features, but once is waaaaaaay more than enough. Combat consists of hitting a few buttons over and over, with little strategy involving moves, because once you gain one decent attack, you'll pretty much stick with that one time after time. The combat sequences aren't even that long, and you'll be watching two or three cinemas longer than the actual battle once you've beaten a level, which is completely absurd. If you're looking to play one of the worst "games" released this year, then RENT but do not buy The Bouncer.
Did not live up to the hype

As many Squaresoft fans did, this past weekend I purchased The Bouncer. All the advertisements and previews made it sound like game of the year. However, it was just a mindless beat-em-up with an okay storyline. I beat the game in 2 hours, and in one day I unlocked all the secrets. No challenge here at all.It was visually stunning, the first game to really harness the PS2's power. But as an avid Final Fantasy fanatic, I thought the gameplay was a poor job by Squaresoft

when i first got the game i thought that it would be okay. once i started to play it, i found it to be a little [too easy]. granted if you beat the game with one of the three different characters you get a different ending, but other then that the game has very little to offer. on the plus side there is a hot female villan with some real big ... that saved me from trashing the game.
the bouncer- the truth!

Well.... when i bought this game i thought that this is going to be a long game and a hard one, in which i will be able to play for weeks..... but NO...... OK, so the graphic and the movies are fantastic!! they are breath-taking..... but the game it self is a very very short game and so easy.... it took me less than 2 days to finish it..... so guys, if i were u i would have really thought about buying a different fighting game... buy, if you are a true fan of fighting games this game is a MUST! though its short and very easy, its a must... Have fun....

This game is a really cool game. You get to go through the whole game as any one of the three characters. It gives you the chance to hear all of the character's thoughts and they all have their own unique style and attitude that they express when you choose them to go on a mission. The one and ONLY reason I give this a four star rating is because it can get kind of boring since all you can do is go through the same game over and over again. The multi player mode is great too. You can pick your three favorite characters (or the ones that have been powered up to the highest level through the one player game) to go against three other characters. It's really a great game.
This is Great!

I like fighting games, but this one is really bad. The many cut-scenes totally destroy the momentum of the game. The "acting" in those cut-scenes is soooooooooooooooo bad that it becomes funny (unintentionally, in a cult-movie sort of way)
Worse: The fighting is slow and boring. The way the characters walk around is terrible. The AI is very dumb. There is no challenge whatsoever in this game: you don't need skill, you don't need wits, you just need patience to sit through this ordeal.
one sweet game

Me ,a game critic ,was looking in a ps2 magazine when I saw the bouncer and I really wanted to play it. The next year I got ps2. The game can get boring at times but over all the game is good. It has good graphics, and a really good story plot.

The Bouncer was one of the first games I bought for the Playstation 2, and looking back to it after several years, that fact sums up the game in several ways. Many things about this game now seem anachronistic, but there are pluses and minuses for gamers even as we approach the release of the PSX 3.
Squaresoft produced this, so naturally you have several beautifully-rendered cut scenes. The movies here are better than what you see on Final Fantasy VII, but not quite up to Final Fantasy X. The story itself is somewhat intriguing, but in my opinion could use some polishing. You never really learn about these characters except through vague implication or hinting at past events that are never really developed. Therefore it's hard to care about these people. Sometimes the storyline grows a little choppy - your characters will be suddenly plunked down in a spaceship with little forewarning. I liked the three-eyed view of the storyline filtered through Sion, Volt and Kou however. Creative.
The engine that controls the POV during the gameplay can get a little disorienting when moving through winding corridors, and I could not figure out how to access special fighting moves. What is the 'ES' button? The manual never told me. All in all, this game is an earlier game for the PS2, and as a result there are kinks and oddities that later games improved on. It is an interesting thing to play for awhile, but not something that keeps you coming back for more. The Bouncer is alright, but only alright.
TOO SHORT!!!

I can beat this game in a half hour if I skip all of the movie parts and when you beat it you can play again but what fun is that cause your character stays strong and then you can beat it faster! Rent this but dont buy it its not worth it. Wait for Onimusha or Metal Gear 2 or Gran Turismo 3. Also when you die you cant get back intoo the action fast cause the menus sucks and makes you load your game too much instead of just put retry button.
