What a great, immersive game. Challenging levels, lots of gadgets, batmobile and batplane levels - I love it.
Like Spiderman for the PS1, you are one with the large environments presented in this game. Each area has a distinctive look in tandem with the enemy you are chasing. Button mashing is effective when taking on the henchmen of each level, but some super-moves add to the mix.
In short, this game makes me late for work and forget to let the dog back inside the house. I love it.

I really looked forward for this title. I love batman always have and always will. The game has the same actors as in the show. That is a plus right there, but that's all. I'm really sorry about that everything else is so really bad. You will not be given the freedom to control batman like you thought you would. The environment to move around in and interact with is so controlled. It gave the feeling of really not being there. Just want to end the review with could of been a great game for me, but was really disappointed, maybe you see something I did not for right now I'm going to the Store to buy a new game. I bought batman yesterday

I've been a video game player for years. More years than I'd like to admit.
I've been a comic book reader for years. More years than I'd like to admit.
And, so, when I saw the preview pictures for this new Batman game I nearly wet my pants with joy. "My God," I said. "It looks just like the cartoon!" I had to have it. It was love at first sight, but I was leery because the last Batman game (Batman Beyond) stunk up the video gaming world. "Would it be as bad as that piece of trash," I asked myself while signing the check that put Batman: Vengeance into my paws.
Upon sliding it into my PS2 I found myself in awe! It was like watching the cartoon, but I got to control the action.
One night and a few levels in, my girlfriend was reading a book while I played. She looked up and asked, "Isn't that the same scene from Spider-Man?"
I paused the game, looked at her and asked, "Huh?"
"I thought in Spider-Man you had to fight some weird lizard-guys on a train. You're doing the same thing now."
Dumbfounded, my gaze fell back on the TV. When I continued to play, I said, "I can't believe this," as I KO'ed some of Poison Ivy's plant-man creatures on top of an express train.
She was right! This was an exact scene from Spider-Man. The UBI Soft guys just lifted it, and placed it right into Batman: Vengeance. But it couldn't happen again... could it?
Darn right it could! Later on, Batman is chased across the rooftops by police and helicopters: again, a scene right from Spider-Man.
It's a shame they had to copy another game to make Batman: Vengeance. It's a solid game with great visuals (and using the real voice actors is a sweet bonus), but overall it loses a star from me because of the Spider-Man rip-offs.
This one nails it.

Two things make this one of the best game experiences I've ever had.
One, the game so perfectly replicates the look and feel of the Batman Animated series that it felt for me as though my television had suddenly become interactive and I was simply moving around inside the show.
Two, this is an intelligently scripted story - a rare for gaming - and I found myself as involved in the narrative as I was in the action.
I don't know how hardcore gamers will feel about it, but hardcore comics fans have never gotten so close to being Batman. While DC comics has been floundered around with misguided interpretations of the Dark Knight, the folks behind the Batman and Batman Beyond animated series are spot on. This game is a faithful rendition of their interpretation.
I really hope there's a sequel!
Good game but has some serious flaws

This is a fairly decent remake of Batman and his adventures in Gotham. The plotline attempts at Metal Gear Solid, but the story is far too predictable. The controls are slightly awkward and sporadic. Batman moves similarly to Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and you have to constantly adjust the camera with the R1 button. But Batman is more hyper than Lara and runs exceptionally fast. You have to control his movements with finesse. The music in the game is also well-selected, and gets you into the whole Batman episode that you are attempting to defeat. The action of beating up thugs and bosses is actually fairly decent, but the whole jumping puzzles are plain annoying. And, please be prepared to do a lot of jumping puzzles in this game. Another major flaw is the control of the vehicles, the Batplane and Batmobile. The Batplane is like flying a simulator (e.g., Ace Combat, Star Wars: Rebel Assault, etc.). However, the Batmobile is just plain clumsy. The Batmobile can only drive within specific streets, and you don't have the ability to explore Gotham. The sound effects are also done pretty well, with the thugs sounding like the show. Furthermore, the save feature could be worked upon. There is really no in-game saving (like Metal Gear Solid). Lastly, you really don't have the freedom to explore the city as I expected. In this way, the freedom of the game resembles Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider or any of the other action/adventure titles out there.
Although this game isn't great, it's worth [money]. The cinematics are well worth it with the voices of Kevin Konroy and Mark Hamill. Even the lip-synching of the characters are well-done. Although this game is no Spider-Man, it does fulfill the Batman quota -- barely with very little room to spare.
Stick to watching the cartoon.

This game is little more than a glorified version of the cartoon with some frustrating game-play interspersed throughout. It is very true to the cartoon in style and with the same voice acting. The only problem is that while the cartoon is entertaining, this game is not. It is a frustrating mix of jumping, punching, and trying to find the right gadget in time to knock out a lackey who keeps coming back over and over again.
If you think you might want to buy this game do yourself a favor; rent it. After that you will be glad that you saved your money.
Trust me on this one. Otherwise you will be sorely dissapointed.
Gorgeous game killed my bad control

This game makes your PS2 shine graphically but the poor controls and limited scope of action will drive you nuts. Batman will fall from catwalks so easily and miss doorways so often that you almost think he is still in training. The gameplay is okay, but you are scripted in what you can do, so this is limiting. I would say rent, but do not buy.
A game you should consider

This game does an excellent job delivering a taste of the batman mythos, especially through the styllized lens of the cartoon series. It's definitely not the best action game out right now for the PS2 (but then it's up against the dual demigods Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid 2) but it's worth a look if you're an action fan or a batman fan.
Awesome Game, Well Worth Taking A Look At !
