TALK ABOUT THE RIGHT GAME!!

First of all, this is Armored Core 2: Another Age, not just Armored Core 2. Don't mix them up. Putting that aside, this game is also an expansion. Like games for the computer, you really need the game it is expanding, in this case Armored Core 2. While it is possible to play it on it's own, I don't really recomend it. You may use the game you created in the AC2, and if you do so, the game does not have the so-called steep learning curve, probably becuase you are already quite used to the controls, but really becuase you, hopefully, have a core that allows a little rough handling while learning the game. If not, then it will be so hard that you won't know how to continue on.
Gameplay wise, this game is only only minimally changed from the first Armored Core. It is still basically a giant robot you control to kill other robots with, and you still design every part of it. Yes, there are 100 missions, and believe me, it will take you more than just several hours to beat them. They get to being very hard in the middle, and I haven't even gotten past some of the middle levels yet, so those next levels I don't know much about. But the rest start out fairly easy, depending on how you play and how you disign you core, to being moderately hard, to being down right nasty. Some levels will take several tries to beat, especially when you fight two or three other AC's at the same time. Others will take a few minutes and then you forgot about them.
Controls are good. I personally do not like the current fad to use analog for everything, so the fact that I can use the digital controls is a big plus to me. If you want the analog, the left one does control movement, and it does it will, I just prefer d-pad, and always have. Looking up and down can be a problem, but only until you get the knack of it.
Replay is exellent. While there is no arena, which is a little upsetting, there is quite a large number of missions, and most take a very long time to complete. Then one must consider the actual parts themselves, in order to get them all, it takes a lot of effort and time, but is definately worth it.
Overall, I must recomend this game to everyone who likes their games to be enjoyable but does not need them to have as their only positives that they use every feature found on a system. Yes, the controls take a while to figure out, but then they are quite simple to use. So, if you like robot, or mech, or mecha, or whatever you call them, games, then get this game. If you like games that require no thought, very little challenge, and no reason to keep playing them, pass this one up.
It was ok

It passed as an armored core game, but I wouldn't reccomend it to hardcore armored core fans like myself. All of the missions are duplicates of the missions you did in armored core 1. It's like AC 1, but with weirder weapons, NO ARENA, and NO ranking system!! I liked AC 1, because there was a ranking system, and that gave gamers another goal, besides beating the game or getting the best robot. After you beat the game, create the best ac, and collect all of the parts, there is nothing else to do besides beat ...your newbie friends, and that can get boring quick. I pray that agetec and software produce a better Armored core game for the ps2, such as armored core 3. I hope that armored core 3 is more of a challenge.
LESSON: Get an armored core game, set it on Hard mode, forget medium. That way, you don't beat it in less than a weak (like I did Armored Core 2: Another Age) and its more of a challenge. There is no point in beating a game, then playing it again on a harder setting!
This game is NOT worth $50

If I could give this game less than one star, I would. Actually, it does deserve one star, it's not THAT bad. I mean, other than not being able to move the mechs or the point of view as effectively as you should, and the fact that the combat is ineffectually balanced, this game is fine. The controls are awkward. The way the mechs move is awkward. The PS2 is not a good platform for a mech game in the first place, because of the relative simplicity of the controller, but this implementation goes above and beyond the call of suck. Following what seems to be a trend lately of misplaced priorities, Tommo has made a very pretty game that plays extremely poorly.
AN AMAZINGLY AWSOM GAME!

Ok lets get right down to it, first and foremost, this game is awesome. I'll admit I don't technically own it (yet) but I have rented it and played it at friend's houses many times over. This game has fantastic graphics. Yeh, Ok maybe there are other games that show the full capabilities of the PS2 graphic wise (ie:MGS2, GT3, ect...) but this game encompasses a completely new style of gaming. I personally like games that you don't go around and just shoot the crap out of people (or giant robots, whatever), yes their fun and all but its pointless, its just mindless violence. This game on the other hand gives a sense of extreme strategy to it. The fact that you go around and shoot the other mecha (as I call them) is fun but you cant just run in and shoot everyone to pieces (or beam saber them). If you do that in the later levels, you will die almost instantaneously. You use strategy to kill the harder opponents and not by being headstrong. Also to beat some levels you'll have to add and subtract certain parts from your mecha. An example: I remember I was fighting one of these hard to beat bosses with my crappy gun (not much power in it) but them I went and bought a much stronger gun but one that had only 20 shots in it (as opposed to 220 in my other one) and I went in there brought him down to very low hit points and polished him of with the beam saber. There is just one example of this strategy. And you can mix and match parts so depending on the mission you equip different parts. After you beat the game (Good luck, if you do beat it I will bow down and praise you as god, its really hard to beat it) there are many multiplayer options. You can play against friends in head to head battles or you can command a group of about 4-12 more mecha's and you try and beat your opponent/friend who has the same forces. That adds a whole new dimension to it. And if you get board of that (what kind of freak are you?!?!?) when the PS2 Modem comes out, hopefully soon, you can go online and play against others all over the world with different skills.
I cannot explain in detail enough of this fantastic game in this review. To fully understand what I'm talking about just go out and rent it if you're still reluctant. Its only 5 bucks for 5 nights and you will fall addictively in love with this game. If you have anymore questions about this game give me an e-mail at heero_yuyg@hotmail.com . Thanks everyone :)

It may be called another age,but as far as i'm concerned,Armored Core hasbeen stuck in time eversince it appeared on the original PS1.They finally added analog stick support welcome to 1998.The controls still feel clunky and slow.It gets better once you soup up your robot but still,it's annoying. As always, building and customizing your mech down to the details is great, but when that's more fun than actually taking it out into battle,we've got a problem. With responsive controls like Z.O.E.,this series could really go somewhere. As is Another Age is for Core heads only, and even some of them will be disappointed with more of the same.
The best game ever

I was going to sleep over at a friend's. He and I were renting a game. We were searching PS2 because he has one (And I don't). I came arcoss this game and showed it to him. He said, "You just picked out the coolest game in town".
So we played it and played it until 11:30p.m. I tell you it was the best game ever. The graphics were excellent and it has new weapons. It is much better than the other Armored Core games.
It's hard to believe it is rated T. There is NO BLOOD, NO LANGUAGE and the violence isn't that intense (I take that back). The only thing I didn't like is that the robots get overweight toooo fast.
Well, that rap's it up. It's a GREAT game. Wether you rent it or buy it, you won't regret it!
