Some good levels, some good cars. Mostly nothing special, though. If you want a good Twisted Metal game, look elsewhere in teh series. If you want a good vehicular destruction game, look to Vigilante 8 or, better still Interstate 76 or Interstate 82.
Can't Compare With Original Twisted Metals

This game is really awful compared to the first two games of the Twisted Metal franchise. When 989 took over making the TM series, it really went downhill. While this game is slightly better than TM3 (mainly because of more weapons and better courses), it still suffers from cruddy car choices and cruddy driving.
GARBAGE - I gave it a 1 as there is no ZERO

I have all four in the series
, and while from game 1 to 3 continued to get better and better with better cars and game play, this one sucks! The grafics are a step down from 3, looking rough like through dirty glasses. Also takes forever to load each scene. Where as the last flowed and you could replay the same scene with out reload, where as this one requires the same lengthy reload to replay the same board.
Controls are terible, and little to no edit possible on them. Also just pressing the gas uses turbo without a way to disable or edit to a different button like in 3.
They tried to do something right and allow you to creat new cars, but only 4 weapons to pick from and all four are basically useless. Also has different sizes available, and doesnt seem to do more than just looking different.
Sound is a joke. The songs are constantly either getting stuck or just basically very poor sounding and hard to understand.
There is also a very anoying habit of getting stuck in walls if you hit them the wrong way. You are then traped in them until blown up or the end of the board.
One thing they did do very right though is changing the passwords to able to save.
In my opinion, if you get this as a gift, take it back and get Twisted Metal 3. Way better, and much cheaper. And if you plan to buy it, DONT!
Well worth it.

To start, I think this game is great. It has many cars, over 12 levels, really great music, awesome cars, and best of all it is about 20 dollars. It is whithout a doubt well worth the money. I have heard that Twisted Metal 2 is really good as well (I haven't played it), but I have played Twisted Metal 1 and 3, and I would say this one is a lot better than those. The soundtrack features names like Rob Zombie, Cirrus, One Minute Silence, Cypress Hill, and others.
The Best Twisted Metal Game yet.

I thought that 989 had gone too far with the Twsited Metal 4 series. So I rented the game and boy was it Great! In create-a-car mode you can make many different cars. The graphics are good, the music was the best, the cars and secret cars are outrageous, and the tracks and Game Shark tracks are wicked awesome. The only thing I have against this game is the control settings, but everything else is good. Buy this game, I guarantee you'll treasure it.
Same old, but with horrible camera angles.

The Twisted Metal franchise was at it's best as far as innovation in the orignial Twisted Metal. TM2 added larger arena areas, but was considered to be not as good as the original. TM3 was horrid. TM4 is more of the same. I have played this game and found the camera angles to be irritating and the control unpredicable. The ability of your car to accidentally drive up a straight wall is laughable, unless you actually bought the game. For the best car combat game out there, pick up last season's Vigilante 8. There is a reason why most video game reviewers compare all car combat games to it. It was innovative and had good control and a unique system which allowed players to tell which weapons the other players had on board. Don't buy TM4 for your kid. And by all means, don't trust what the people here are saying. We sure aren't experts.
It was alright

I have to admit ever since 989 took over this series has gone downhill, especially with 3 but 4 is a improvement from the last one and has some cool characters. The maps are ok in this one, and 4 is a challage to beat.

I never play Twisted Metal 1 but I did play and own 2, 3, 4, Small Brawl, and Black. Let me tell you something, Twisted Metal 3, 4, and Small Brawl sucks. When Twisted Black came out it save Twisted Metal. Maybe that's why no more companies kept making Twisted Metal. There are controls are horrible in Twisted Metal 4. You might get stuck next to a wall and you can't get out after 5 to 10 seconds. The worse part is you can't even choose the opponents just like in Twisted Metal 3. If you work for a company that designs video games and wants to make a new Twisted Metal game you need to make some levels that base on REAL locations. I guess that's why everyone likes Twisted Metal 2:World Tour that much. I like Twisted Metal 2 and Black. But mostly #2 is the best of all. An annoying thing about Twisted Metal 4 is you have to push the stupid X button to move the car. the forward button does nothing in this game. Why would 989 Studios make some rotten controls like that?
What's all the griping about?

This is a great TM game. It's one of my favorites. Everybody has been griping about how bad TM3 and TM4 are. Sure, they do have some flaws, but they're still great games. The graphics are great. It's got a bunch of all new totally metal twisting weapons like MIRVS, Auto Lobs, Rain 2, and more. It has some neat characters and some wierd ones like Meter Maid, Trash Man, and The Jones. You can even be Rob Zombie!. One of the things I like most about this game is that you can create your own vehicle. You can even choose what they can say when they use their special like "Oooh! that's gotta hurt!", and "Crispy fried punk!". It has alot of phrases to choose from. It has cool levels like The Carnival, Sweet Tooth's Bedroom, and Minion's Maze. The only things I didn't like about this game is that some of the levels are large and like mazes and are hard to find opponents even with your radar especially when there's about 2 or 3. Also sometimes when you ram a wall hard your vehicle gets stuck sideways in the wall but you can drive off if there's a corner where the wall stops. That's all I can say. This is a great TM game. I wish everyone would shut up about how bad it is. At least it's Twisted Metal! It would be a great addition to your TM series or just your Playstation collection.

I think the game was lots of fun. I espically like the vechicle that shoot missles and ice beams. From Twisted Metal III to IIII the changes are awesome. The option of making vechicles is espically nice with the new attacks they are capable of.
Enjoy Twisted Metal IIII!
