If you are looking for the right playstation game to give as a gift, or just for yourself, then you can't go wrong buying this game. The graphics are first rate, very life-like. To actually race in an event (in simulation mode) , you must get your license to drive by passing 8 driving tests for each license (there are 3 licenses). It's true, it can be frustrating at times when you fail a test by 1.5 seconds. But it makes it very satisfying when you do pass a hard test. Once you obtain your license, you can enter actual racing competitions, and that's where the fun is! You win some races, gather credits, buy or build your own fleet of cars....then race your neihbor in a memory card battle (in my case, i had to build up two memory cards and then race my brother!). Well, there is a whole lot more to this great game and I would give it 10 stars if possible!
Heaven on wheels!

This is, by far, undeniably the racing game to have.
A game with over 20 cars to choose from? UNHEARD OF at the time- this game's got over 150, folks.
A game with true-to-life car physics, sounds, and handling? GET REAL, right? Nope, all here.
A game with so much customization, import tuner companies piss their pants? It's ALL here.
Gran Turismo is the original racing simulator that started it all.
You start off with a measly 10,000 bucks. That all but gets you a clunker of a car, which, after beating a bunch of driver's ed tests, you can use to sneak your way through a few races....winning a bit of cash and some cars you can either sell or save to tune later....until you can finally buy your dream car (which for me was the Acura NSX Type S-Zero the first time I played through it)
Let me just stress how perfect this game is....
Sure, your first time through it, you'll take a hairpin turn at Grand Valley way too fast, spin out of control, scream, yell, and curse at the TV, maybe throw and break your controller as you finish in last place....but over time, you'll feel so much utter control of your car, that any shimmy or shake the car makes while cornering or countersteering or powersliding, you'll know exactly how to correct it. No two cars in the game handle the same. You have your FF, FR, MR, and 4WD drivetrains.
Simply, you have it all here.
The graphics in the game push the Playstation to the limit....this, GT2, and R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 are by far the best-looking racing games on the original Playstation.
There are hordes of races to race, and multiple cars to win, so the replay value is through the roof.
My absolute FAVORITE part about the game is fine-tuning the gear ratios of a fully-tuned, supercharged turbo monster of a car, and trying to get every last ounce of power out of it for a top speed at the Test Track. I've literally spent days at a time fiddling with the gear ratios on a car, knowing that someway, somehow, I'd be able to squeeze another 2 or 3 MPH out of it. Not only that....adjusting the car's ride height affects top speed and acceleration, too....
My personal best was achieving 274 MPH with the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo MR....It took me at least 8 hours to get it from its standard 252 MPH top speed it gets with all of the top performance parts, and no fiddling with gear ratios or anything....
The one, and ONLY downside to the game is that you only get $12,000 for any car you sell that you won from a tournament. Even a car that you KNOW should rake in WAY more than just 12K....like say for instance, the TVR Cerbera LM.
Other than that, this game is absolute perfection, 10 out of 10....
Gran Turismo is great!

This is my first Playstation game purchase and it was great! Yes, it has a steep learning curve if you play in simulation mode (the license test, etc.), but you can sharpen your skills on the track in arcade mode (time trials, single races). The graphics are sweet, the replays are fun to watch because you see how you and "others" drove.

This is supposedly the best playstation game ever. I could not stop playing this game. I would sit at the TV playing this game for our on end. In arcade mode mode you have a limited amount of cars to choose from and the same with the tracks. In Simulation mode you have over 150 actual real life cars to choose from that you can change just about anything on. You can buy either used, new or special edition cars. The manufacturers you can choose from are: Chevy,Dodge,Tvr,Aston Martin,Subaru,Mitsubishi, Mazda,Nissan,Toyota and Honda/Acura. You have also have several world class trcks to choose from. You start off with a small amount of 10,000cr(trust me its not alot). You must earn enough money to change a numerus number of parts on your car or even buy a new one. This is definatly the best game I have ever played.

Gran Turismo is one of the best racing games I've ever played, for any game console. This game requires a little getting used to if you are not looking for a realistic game. Gran Turismo is the most realistic game I've played outside of the Nascar game series for the PC. Expect lots of fun and a major challenge when trying to get the liscenses. I have the international A-class and let me tell you I had to work for it. All of my friends consider me to be an excellent racing gamer, realistic or not. I was kind of disappointed that there wasn't any damage. I soon got over that and now the game is just a blast.
The Best Racing Game out There

Okay I know what you're thinking, Gran Turismo is just another okay racing game. I rented it. When I returned it I was begging my mom to buy it for me. Well in the end I ended up buying... But it was worth it, I think it is the best racing game out there by far. I also think it is one of the best games for Playstation.I have completely beaten it. It took me about 50 hours. But it was worth it. At first Simulation is kind of hard. But if you work and work, it's like nothing else I have ever played. You can't just play it for a little and not want to play it more. As in my case I just had to go and buy it immediately. Now that the price has been lowered it is an even better buy. Several people think Ridge Racer 4 is better. While a great game it doesn't have the realism of Gran Turismo. Although the graphics of Ridge Racer 4 compete with Gran Turismo, I think Gran Turismo has a slight advantage. The JogCon that is specially made for Ridge Racer 4 in Japan is a nice addition but it still doesn't beat Gran Turismo. I have not yet found a game with such realistic reviews. Need for Speeds' "Pursuit" kind of resembles Gran Turismos' Simulation Mode. I can not wait for Gran Turismo 2. With over 400 cars and a new "Rally" it will be so much better it will be even better. But I think beating Gran Turismo will help you do alot in Gran Turismo 2.

This is one of the best games I have ever played. If there was a 6-star rating on this, I would choose it. This is an 6-Star game and it really is. Just about everything is rated 10 out of 10 for me. The only thing that wasn't a 10 was the car choices, which was 9.7, and the graphics, which was 9.3. Now the car choices to me are a perfect 10. Here are my ratings: Gameplay - 10, Challenge - 10, Car Choices - 10, Course Choices - 10, Graphics - 9.3, Overall: 9.86. I want to thank all the people that made this game for creating it, and myself for rating it an overall 9.86. There's another one out there. I know it. And when I beat this game, I will get Gran Turismo 2. But that's another story. Thanks again!
This is the BEST racing game of all time

Ok, Ok, you've probably heard it all before...Gran Turismo, a great game...very in-depth.....awe-inspring amount of cars and information about them....amazing graphics....realistic engine...etc. Well here's a fact for you: Gran Turismo is Sony's highest selling game for the Playstation, selling 4.3 million copies BEFORE it became part of the Greatest Hits promotion. So, if that right there isn't a clue for you right there, play the game and you'll definetly see EXACTLY what I mean. So for the measly $ bucks, just go ahead and buy it! You won't be dissapointed. Oh, and by the way, you won't be done with this one for a LOOOONG time...

I own GT for about a year now and I still play it. I got other racing games like Collin Mc Rae Rally, but GT is the best of them. In this game you can change gear ratios, turbo boost, camber, everything! It is also a little compendium of cars because it gives you all the information about them. I really love this game. Hope the GT2s better.
