This is one of the best games I have played, ever. I was afraid at first that it might be more fanciful than I wanted, that maybe the horses were not even going to be horses at all, robots perhaps. But thankfully, they are truly horses. This is a most realistic game, with conditions such as sloppy tracks, getting bumped and dealing with getting boxed in. Most fun of all is winning the big races, because by the time you accomplish such a thing, you have truly put in your time with eating a lot of dust. You gradually build up a stable of better and better champs, and are invited to race in previously unknown races. Special trophies are awarded to the best horses, and when they retire, they are placed in a "hall-of-fame", where their stats are memorialized. A knowledge of horse-racing is almost a must before playing this game, such as knowing the difference between a dirt and turf track, a sprinter and a distance horse, and understanding how horses peak differently. Handicapping also comes into play. All in all, this is a most rich, educational game. Perhaps most of all, I have learned how much jockeying can make or break a race, no matter how good the horse.

It's simply the best. My Dad and I have seen the sun come up a many mornings playing Gallop Racer. All of my other games are just collecting dust since we've been running horses. I'm 12 years old, my dad's been taking me to the race track since I was a baby. We race a couple horses every year. The only diffences between the game and real racing is you don't win real money and you don't have to go out to feed and train. I would rate this game 100 stars. The horses look real they run like real horses, the jocks look and ride like the Hall of Famers. You start a career create your very own jockey (male or female) in your silks, buy a horse or two and start winning races. You can run in regular stakes or graded stakes, where the big boys run. It's just so real the better he is on the track, the better he is in the breeding barn. Breed that tripple crown winner and get your horse and jockey into the Hall of Fame and other great awards. If your husband enjoy horse racing or you want him and your son to spend some quality time together get them this game. Gotta go now, got one about to run in the Louisiana Derby.
Pretty fun, tons of horses and races to choose from

I really love horse racing, so I found this game to be pretty fun. There are an enormous amount of horses to choose from to race with lots of statistics about each one. The game itself is a little bit tricky to figure out how to work, but only for a couple of races. I have found it to be a challenge though - not too easy!

This game is the all time best game. It has many different types of games. You can play season mode where you perchese horses and race them yourselves. You put them in the race you want. You get money for 1st-5th. It sounds easy but its hard. You get better horses as you go along. It has a 2 player game that is fun for the whole family. You can have any horse from about 300 its great. I recomend it to all raceing fans and top noch gamers.
Great horse racing fun

This is one game you can't miss. If you like horses and/or racing, then this is the one. Challenge a friend, race the field in practice while you learn the ropes, or try your hand at raising a winning barn. It's got it all! Loads of fun that I still haven't tired of or already beaten. So, if you want a great game, then "Gallop Racer" is for you!

Gallop Racer is the best PS1 game I have. In fact, it is practically the only PL1 game I have that is how it is soo great. This game is ok for people who don't like horses for example my 18 year old brother and his friend played it and they really liked it. Probably because the like racing almost anything. Anyway, You get to choose from loads of differant horses between A to Z. My favorite turf horse is Fast Navy and and Clear soul is also pretty good. In dirt my favorite harse is Hell Billy and Sedate Devil. You can race short or long races depending on your horse. Practice mood is when you etheir need to practice or your playing by yourself. You can even choose the horses you want to play against. When you go to Season Mode you can save a baby you have bred and you saved it you can upload it to practice mode. In season mode you play simular to a real Jockey. You have points to buy a horse and enter a race and if you lose you have to pay a certain amount. You can retire and breed your horses and they can have a baby. Or you can sell them and you usually dont get any points. You can verse against you friends and the PL1. You can do Random Mode where the PL1 will choose your horses and the Track.
I would give this game 100 stars if I could.
Finally, a horse racing sim!

First off, to any horse racing fan, this is definately a "must have". The graphics are great and the races challenging. The only drawbacks are that it may be too deep. The instructions are sparse so expect to lose a bunch before you figure it out. The strategy is great but I still haven't mastered all the meters and gauges even though I consistently win. Hmm.... It would be nice to have more practical info in the directions or at least a website to goto for hints. This game is so deepI KNOW I must be missing stuff. The other drawback is that even with all the racing features, it still seems to lack something. Betting would be nice touch as would training your horses. However, criticisms aside, this is one good game. Invite over your buddy and challenge him to a 2-player version. This will guarantee fun and the yelling of "Go baby, Go! "
I love this game!

This game was sooooo awesome! Before getting a Playstation, I owned a Sega Saturn. Winning Post for that platform was pretty much the only Horse Racing Sim out there. When my Saturn packed up i thought "Oh No!" but then I saw Gallop Racer and got a Playstation and fell in love with the game. I'm addicted to it now! It was a bit tricky to pick up the controls at first and I lost a lot, but after I figured it out, I was home free. I beat the game in four weeks I played it so much. I'm planning on starting a web page about the game. Play this game. You'll love it!

Gallop Racer is a great game. The horses all have different personalities and running styles. They also come in a wide range of colors and markings. In Season Mode, you buy your own stable of horses with the money that you are given and the money that you earn from races. The graphics are really cool too. Races can even be run in the rain and snow! But, it takes awhile to become a good jockey. In order to become good, you have got to practice all the time! But in the end it pays off. When you start to win more races, better horses, bigger races, and new racetracks are unlocked. My favorite beginner race horses are Lively Beat, Sexy Sunrise,Welsh Chapel, and Single Night. My favorite advanced horses are All You Can, Frugal Lark, Courtly Lark, Gothic Value, Gray Sky, Solar Blond, Utmost Mover, Honest Bird, Hell Billy, White Stage, and Warm Star.
This game makes me feel like I am really riding and racing my own horses. Gallop Racer is my all-time favorite PS1 game.
