This game is fun but REALLY hard to win i only won one race and I've been playing for over a month. You should rent it first so you can see if you like it. Other than that the game is pretty fun and easy to work.
Pretty fun, tons of horses and races to choose from

I really love horse racing, so I found this game to be pretty fun. There are an enormous amount of horses to choose from to race with lots of statistics about each one. The game itself is a little bit tricky to figure out how to work, but only for a couple of races. I have found it to be a challenge though - not too easy!
Finally, a horse racing sim!

First off, to any horse racing fan, this is definately a "must have". The graphics are great and the races challenging. The only drawbacks are that it may be too deep. The instructions are sparse so expect to lose a bunch before you figure it out. The strategy is great but I still haven't mastered all the meters and gauges even though I consistently win. Hmm.... It would be nice to have more practical info in the directions or at least a website to goto for hints. This game is so deepI KNOW I must be missing stuff. The other drawback is that even with all the racing features, it still seems to lack something. Betting would be nice touch as would training your horses. However, criticisms aside, this is one good game. Invite over your buddy and challenge him to a 2-player version. This will guarantee fun and the yelling of "Go baby, Go! "

If you like simulation games you will love this title. It is very fun and challenging. You won't just pick this title up and start running in the top level races. It will require time and patience. The game takes seconds to learn and weeks to master. The replay apeal is high. I have an xbox but I bought this game for my PSX because it is just that good.

This game is great!I bought this game because I love horses and I love to ride them! The graphics are great and the practice mode you can have ANY horse you want! I must say though, the season mode is very hard to keep up with since you can't afford a top winning horse right away- and you might loose alot of races and lose even more money. Otherwise its great and if you don't want what I just said to happen, practice mode is where you want to be! I highly recommend this to horse lovers everywhere!

I love the strategy of this game-different horses have different talents-some sprint, some finish strong. The racing part of this plus the huge choice of horses are the best. But I have to say, the process of creating a composite horse has me confused. A few weeks after owning this, I still have not figured it out. Also, it would be great if you could bet on your horse, which you can't.

This is one of the best games I have played, ever. I was afraid at first that it might be more fanciful than I wanted, that maybe the horses were not even going to be horses at all, robots perhaps. But thankfully, they are truly horses. This is a most realistic game, with conditions such as sloppy tracks, getting bumped and dealing with getting boxed in. Most fun of all is winning the big races, because by the time you accomplish such a thing, you have truly put in your time with eating a lot of dust. You gradually build up a stable of better and better champs, and are invited to race in previously unknown races. Special trophies are awarded to the best horses, and when they retire, they are placed in a "hall-of-fame", where their stats are memorialized. A knowledge of horse-racing is almost a must before playing this game, such as knowing the difference between a dirt and turf track, a sprinter and a distance horse, and understanding how horses peak differently. Handicapping also comes into play. All in all, this is a most rich, educational game. Perhaps most of all, I have learned how much jockeying can make or break a race, no matter how good the horse.

It's simply the best. My Dad and I have seen the sun come up a many mornings playing Gallop Racer. All of my other games are just collecting dust since we've been running horses. I'm 12 years old, my dad's been taking me to the race track since I was a baby. We race a couple horses every year. The only diffences between the game and real racing is you don't win real money and you don't have to go out to feed and train. I would rate this game 100 stars. The horses look real they run like real horses, the jocks look and ride like the Hall of Famers. You start a career create your very own jockey (male or female) in your silks, buy a horse or two and start winning races. You can run in regular stakes or graded stakes, where the big boys run. It's just so real the better he is on the track, the better he is in the breeding barn. Breed that tripple crown winner and get your horse and jockey into the Hall of Fame and other great awards. If your husband enjoy horse racing or you want him and your son to spend some quality time together get them this game. Gotta go now, got one about to run in the Louisiana Derby.
