I remember having a demo of this game as a kid and I loved to play the demo. Now, I saw it for 15$ and decided to get it. It's better than I remembered.
GAMEPLAY: A fine mix of action, Zelda, and RPG. You play as Musashi, the summoned hero. Slaying enimies and solving tricky puzzles in the dungeons. Kinda like Zelda. Musashi has two swords, Fusion, which can swipe fast and turn enimies into powers, [like Kirby] and Lumina, which is slow, powerful, and when you find the Scrolls, can use element power. There is much more things to do, but I'll let you find that on your own.
GRAPHICS: They kind of look like FFVII's graphics: Very pologonal characters, but a bit more detailed this time.
MUSIC/SOUND: As usual, very good.
VOICE: This is the first Square game to have voice acting. The voices can be kind of cheesy, but are very good for a first attempt.
Overall, a great game. If you like Zelda, you will like BFM.
Doesn't compare to Zelda!

I bought this game because Square is my favorite developer of video games. Too say the least I was very disapointed. A very short game, took me less than 12 hours to beat it. Mediocre story line at best. Voice acting decent but not inspiring in the least. In my opinion there is little to no replay value. Where are the days of Secret Of Mana? I asked myself many times when playing this so so game.

RPGs are my favorite genre. Especially action ones, which are few and far between. I was hoping this would be another "Zelda" or "Alundra" with better graphics. But it was simply annoying. I cringed the first time I heard Musashi's HORRID voice, and every other time I heard it. Big disappointment. The game was promoted as an RPG, but it doesn't remind me of an RPG. It's an annoying adventure game with annoying voice acting. The "hero" looks and sounds like a bratty ten year old. Definitely not for everyone, especially someone expecting a typical RPG. Don't disappoint yourself like I did. This is the first time I ever returned a game, in the same night to boot! Rent it first!

Hey If you're going to buy a game like this which has so many inverse reviews, I recomend renting it to try it out. That is what I wish I had done, some like this I didn't, It was to slow, and nothing like FFVII or VII. You may like this sort of thing, but rent it first to be safe.

When I first played this game I thought it was really cool. THe basic story line is great. The names are kind of corney like Princess Fillet and Allucaneet (All-You-Can-Eat) Palace but does that really matter? The only real let down is the graphics. They are kind of blocky.
If you want a cool game get this one.
PROS: Great Story line
Fun gameplay
Cool funny names
CONS: Kind of disipointing graphics
Coo fencer musashi.

This game was really annoying at first. I thought the first boss as impossible. but once i finnaly beat him, I was addicted to this game. dont let the morons who rated this game less than 5 fool you. I'm a big rpg fan,and this game not only do you level up, but you get to slice stuff in half two. It also is kinda funny if you arn't ignorant. like spoting names like "thirstquencher empire" was pretty cool.

Okay, long ago I played this game, for a very short time at that. Once for five minutes when a neighbor brought it over (and sadly I never saw him again) and another time on a demo for about the same amount of time. Then I bought this and it was AWESOMELY AWESOME! Then also when the sequal/remake of the game Samurai Legend: Musashi, it was JUST AS AWESOME IF NOT EVEN MORE!!!!!!!!! YOU MUST BUY THE GAME NOW! ALSO THE SECOND ONE!!!

This game focuses on what people who dont like ATP/turn based like to do hack and slash for the fun of it! The main character "Musashi" is quite nice looking weilding (sorta) two swords. Also the ability to absorb enemys makes it so that you can endless hours of fun checking what each enemy does using it etc. Dont mention its real time (to a point) you can fall asleep and watch people go about their business on their own. The other characters can be somewhat annoying (princess), but it does not *kill* the game. Good job all around Square. Think of it as Zelda with the ability to "level."

What may have turned many fans away (even me at first) about this game is that it is on the outside targeted towards children. While Final Fantasy always had a deep plot with strong characters, this one does not. Instead we get a game that is more in tune with that of a Saturday Morning Cartoon.
The story here is that an evil force is attacking the kingdom in order to take it over. The Princess and her council cast a spell to retrieve the Legendary Brave Fencer Musashi. They expect this tall muscular Adult Warrior and instead they get a child. Distraut at first they send him on a quest to retrieve his sword and release the five scrolls so that the evil can be stopped.
The gameplay is that of an Action RPG. You gain experience points in fighting but also on how you do things to a certain degree. You use your swords to fight but also your short sword can be charged and then thrown at your opponents to absorb their abilities. You may find that the weakest of creatures could have the most usuful of abilities, and vice versa.
This game is deceptivly deep and challenging. The Bosses are for the most part Hard, yet incredible to fight. Also just to tease RPG fanatics there is a Toy Collecting Mini game of sorts. You can remove the toys from the packaging but then their value goes down if you choose to resell the toys (take that Fanatics). Overall this is a great game to play and I am looking forward to the PS2 followup for sometime next year. If your not into Final Fantasy than give this one a shot, you may be surprised at how much you enjoy it.
Pretty boring, really...

A dud from Square, who could have imagined... ;)
This game wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't been for the awful voice overs and boring puzzles. There is one you have to go back and do again and it was awful the first time!
The people wrapped in crystals that you have to wake up is fairly interesting as are the collecting skills from monsters. Also, the day to night aspect is very nice. These do not make up for an overall lack of excitement throughout the game...
