Death by Bad Controls

I have always been a HUGE fan of TR games. In fact, I bought a playstation just to play her on my TV. Angle of Darkness is the worst game I have ever played. There is nothing worse to me than death by bad camera angles or by bad controls. She handles like a mac truck with volkswagon gears. When I find myself saving before every jump because you never know if you will actually get her to kick into gear fast enough to get to your destination, it's just plain frustrating. Thank god the traps and puzzles have been simplified because with the controls the way they are you would never be able to get through the "old" TR games.
I think the graphics are wonderful though they are all the same; warehouses, apartments, streets. Laura looks great. But the sacrifices to the quality of the game to have the better graphics are not worth it. I never thought on a PS2 that the game would actually slow down when walking into a room - it's like having a bad internet connection. If the game can't handle the graphics, then simplify them.
I also think the game lost some of it's "fantasy" quality. The storyline was nothing special and typical.
All in all, I was incredibly disappointed with this game and will definitely rent the next one first before buying it. This is not one game I would ever play a second time.
It was ok

Well. Ive beaten the game and ill tell you what I think.
I did like the game. People complain and whine about the controls. I had no problem with the controls. Acctualy, they were quite easy to use. Lara is not that slow. C'mon, why would you want to zip through the game? You're not sonic the hedgehog. About the glitches: the game does slow down quite a bit at times, but its nothing to scream over. The camera has never been a problem for me. All I did was simply move it when I needed to. Two or three times the game froze, but it happens rarely. Many games do this anyway.
The gameplay is nice. I liked it. I do wish there was a little more fantasy type action and I do wish there was a little more to shoot at. They let you have all these guns, but you only really need one. Variety is nice when comming across enemies. You almost wish you can come accross more. They're ok though. There was a lack of bosses. The ones I can recall was the one that Kurtis fought (big bug thing) which was a little difficult to beat. Ekhardt and his associate after that, they were easy to beat and I was dissapointed about that.
The puzzles were somewhat easy although I did have to resort to the trusty internet to help me defeat that red ghost thing. That's all the help I needed really. There were some levels that required you to jump from platform to platform and grab ledges...which is most of the game. I did fail plenty of times doing this and people whine and moan on about dieing on these kind of obstacles saying they're to hard. It was a bit tedious, but I would rather be happier completing a task doing a hard task many times. Why take the fun out and do it right on the first try?
There was one thing that really made me a little angry. All this talk about reviving a Nephilim demon, and you don't even get to fight it. Also, you would expecting a spectacular ending to all of this. You won't get one, trust me. Her name isn't cleard...the public doesn't receive the outcome of the Monstrum Killer...it was a let down for me. I wish she could have done more in the end rather that pick up Kurtis' lost weapon and walk throuh a big door without a word.
Wherin I did enjoy playing the game, I didn't enjoy the ending. The graphics in TRAOD are what everyone says they are. I do believe this game could have been a lot better, but I don't regret paying for it. I like Tomb Raider games because they're slow and steady with a good story. I will buy the next insallment and I hope that it will be a lot more action packed
with nice gunwork and even harder puzzles. TRAOD has an excellent story already, but with these added factors, I think a perfect game will be made
Possibly the WORST of the TR series

This is one of those games you wish to end fast, but not because its action packed, its like a dying animal, you want to end fast to stop the suffering.
The storyline is nothing original and follows the same pattern as previous TR (Lara retrieves items that are then stolen by her enemies...pfft). There are like 3 different enemies throughout the game...so it take little, if any, skill to take them out. The bosses are simply retarded, I beat them the 1st time I fought them. The puzzles are extremely easy or downright impossible to figure out. The game slows down (matrix effect) on some parts, this is extremely frustrating. The angles will sometimes not let you see, so you have to move around to figure out where you are. The stealth and experience new features are pretty lame. I used the stealth move ONE TIME throughout the game. The experience thing is just to make you take more time to finish the game. Oh yeah, no vehicles at all on this one. I could go on but th 1,000 word list would be reached...this game is simply terrible, a shame to the Tomb Raider name which I have been fan for many, many years.
Come back, Lara!

I am a die hard Tomb Raider fan. You know, got all the games and always have much fun playing them. My first TR was TR 2, The Dagger of Xian, you know, the Marco Bartoli game, that I got the year that came out, 1997. I was astounded by the graphics perfection, the camera views, the story, the magic, so I bough TR debut, and after, you know, came 3, The Last Revelation and Chronicles(the best TR game EVER!), and also all the extra levels of each other, I think I can call myself a TR fanatic. I always think Core and Eidos would never hurt us with a bad game. Geez, I was so wrong!
To start, why get out of something that was going fine? Why make Lara Croft analogue? And above all: why go to RPG style game? That's not the way the serie got it's popularity! Don't get me wrong, I love RPG games, Baldur's Gate, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Monkey Island, Vampire, I always have much fun with this kind of game. But the trying of the game to seems like a RPG game was awfully unwilling and unfun. Why not to keep the adventure style with just new improvements?
And most important: the story in this game doesn't have any logic! What the hell happened with Lara after the pyramid fall on The Last Revelation? Her instructor, Werner Von Croy found her backpack in the end of Chronicles, but haven't found her body... so what? Is she dead or alive?? The story on TLR really passes before TR 1? Witch period of her time line goes the Angel Of Darkness story? The serie doesn't make any sense anymore. I though the TR 6 would show the proud return of our heroin, back from Egypt, carried by Von Croy or her butler Jeeves, or at least show more of her adventure life with the sad confirmation that Lara passed out. Well, it seems that Lara really gone after all, and was replaced with her evil twin. They even didn't put the training level on her house, that I love to play. In the last two games, TLR and Chronicles it doesn't have, but it makes logic because Lara aren't with us the way we know her. But here, there's no excuse!
I am so disappointed with this game of the serie. I'll give another chance to Core to bring us a real TR game, one that continues the story started on TLR, or at least a good game. But if that doesn't happen, forget about me!
Will Lara ever be the same?

Now I love a good video game as much as the next person, and I love Tomb Raider, and I'm open to new ideas. But does this game deserve the title of "Tomb Raider", when no tombs are actually being raided? This sounds more like one of those crime-and-punishment bits where people run around with high-tech weapons killing the enemy in fatigues (complete with gory blood splatter), where there's a better chance of dying than of actually winning the game. Yes, it's like Metal Gear, but in my opinion it SHOULDN'T be like Metal Gear; it should be like Tomb Raider. What about archaeology and the Indiana-Jones thrill of getting out past the mummies and gods and ghosts to finish with a great prize - some secret magical artifact? Has all that been killed for the cheap trick of killing the police and getting back at the big guy at the top? Lara isn't the member of a police force fighting crime or a fugitive like the Harrison Ford flick or a netherworld blood goddess in an Alice-like Gothic fantasy world. She's a Tomb Raider. And in this Tomb Raider's opinion, she should stay a Tomb Raider and spend time actually raiding tombs instead of playing dark she-devil. Although most people haven't played the game yet I've toyed around with it and all I can say is that I hope Tomb Raiderdom isn't disappointed by the fact that our old Lara has been sacrificed for a gory crime drama.

I wasn't too thrilled about this game since the series has grown quite stale lately. I love Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider 2, but after that they got worse and worse. I decided to buy this game and it is awesome. The movements is so much better than previous games and the background is gorgeous. It was cool to go into a dance club and turn on the music and rome around in there. You also can interact with different people and what you say can change the overall outcome of the game. This game is a cross between Tomb Raider, Medal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil. You can go into stealth mode and sneak up to people and you don't need to hit action to climb things. You also can build your strength as the game moves on so areas you once couldn't reach, you can later in the game. This is a must for anyone who used to like the Tomb Raiders series or maybe you just like adventure games. I love this game. It has a fresh feel to it.
Not the same Lara, but I'll take what ever Lara I can get!

Is Lara Croft the Angle of Darkness in this new action game? We won't know untill it comes out. All I know is they got some sick ... graphics. I also know that this game will be a lot more like MGS,(Metal Gear Solid). Not that MGS is a bad game, but it won't be the same Lara. In this game, there will be sneaking around, breaking guard's necks, and endless danger with so many traps, and malicious pursuers that you'll be afraid to take your next step! After you play this game, you will be dreaming of Lara Croft all night long, if you know what I mean! This Tomb Raider is going to be a lot darker than the past games, and its storyline will definitly be far more complex!
Tombraider Gameplay: Well Done And Overcooked

I have been a fan of tombraider from the beggining and have enjoyed all of the previous titles. Having played on the PC previously, this was my first attempt with playstation. Although the graphics and art work is impressive; and they added a few bells and whistles to the moves, it is basically the same old tombraider repackaged. It was dissapointing after all the hype about a whole new game experience. Still, I admit the story is probably the best and most well thought out among the titles and I did like the added role playing feature. But what really frustrasted me the most were two things; one, the artificial intelligence of the enemies was absolutely atrocious.
New engine my as$! They behaved as predictably and mechanically as the original game, which was great back then, but it makes all her new stealth and hand to hand combat moves obsolete and combat downright boring most of the time.
Two: Do we really need any more block pushing in games? I wasn't sure if there were bugs in the program or what at first.
You hit the push control sometimes four or five times until she has "strength" to move the block. It is so unpredictable, you feel like your pulling a slot machine at Vegas just to make her pay off with the push. It amounts to frustration and annoyance over fun.
If it had not been for the enjoyment of the previous titles I would have put this one down a long time ago, as it is I am still
trudging through hoping that the pluses will eventually outweigh the minuses.

When you got the Tomb Raider Revelation, you were dissapointed. Same gameplay, same everything, except Lara's shinier butt, and humongous eyes. When you got Chronicles, you liked it a little better, but you wanted more.
That MORE is in this game. The wait is over, and since Edios has worked so hard, the game feels more like a story and feels great!
GRAPHICS- 4.5 OUT OF 5.0 STARS
Wonderful, picture like graphics that make the enviorment look realistic, and dark. Lara looks more like she should, like she did in the 2nd game, and playing with her glasses on is even more fun! Cutscenes look smooth, and realistic. Although some of the walls look sort of bland...
CONTROLS- 4.5 OUT OF 5.0 STARS
Tight controls makes the experience more realistic too. Finally you can control lara without her walking like a robot, in grid based form. You can now also pull one pistol out of your holster, than both of them at the same time. And now controling Lara, makes it feel even more realistic with the ablility to really say what you feel with selecting what Lara says to a character, fun! You can finally snap necks silently, and fight with your hands and feet! Lara is certainly kicking butt now!
Sound- 5.0 OUT OF 5.0 STARS
May'be the best of the game, like always you have wonderful voices, wonderful music, and finally this time, you have wonderful sound effects! Yeah!
Gameplay- 4.0 OUT OF 5.0 STARS
It certainly is the best Lara game yet, and it certainly does feel like a story with having Lara's personality really get out. A drawback is that you have a second playable character that weilds a blade thingy, and the levels having to play as him are a lot like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and other horror games having to fight creepy, crazy mental lunatics that try to slash you apart. This could scare younger gamers. Also, like the others games, some puzzles seem hard and are very frustrating. Get the strategy guide.
OVERALL/AVERAGE-8.5 STARS OUT OF 10 STARS
A great game that really is the best of the Tomb Raider series.
RATING- T FOR TEEN
The game contains violence, and a fair amount of blood. IN MY OPINION: It contains a little bit of scary action playing through as the 2nd character. Also some of monster like enemies are quite scary, and bizzare for the littler gamers.
STORY- Lara is framed for a murder she didn't commit. Now she is being chased by the cops, and everyone else. She must now try to survive, and must try to find the killer. She also must interact with the lowest of the lowest beings, so it makes Lara's personality and skills change as you progress, and talk to characters.
FINAL VERDICT- GREAT GAME, HOPE TO SEE MORE OF THIS TYPE OF TOMB RAIDER GAME!
Hard to get but worth it

Only place that had this game was EB Games, I called everywhere today June the 20th 2003. Decided to buy the PS2 version because of upgrade problems we had in the past with the PC versions of Tomb Raider and so we could watch the new graphics on our big screen TV.
Pros:
Love the way Lara automatically will start holding onto ledges etc. and climbing poles, etc. Also cool new Monkey swing and last chance grab even after you have fallen.
Cool hand-to-hand take downs, Lara looks awesome doing them. It's about time.
Very very cool way that you can go into stealth mode, press the action button and when you slide along the wall up to a corner Lara will look around while keeping her body hidden, way cool!
Cool new tuck when pulling yourself along hand over hand going from one roof top to another on a rope.
Love the cool way she draws and holsters her pistol front under her left front side of her jacket.
Supporting characters are much better looking then in the past and look just as good as Lara her self.
Last but not least of course the graphics right down to the little side to side hip movement Lara makes when standing still and the way her breasts bounce lightly when you jump.
Cons:
Having to gain strength as you play.
Holding on to a ledge you have a very limited time before Lara tires and soon loses her grip.
I HATE the way you control Lara when moving forward and backward. You have to switch from forward to backward pressure on the left analog stick depending on whether Lara is in front or behind you. Very confusing compared to the old, forward is forward, back is back.
Having to decide what to say in conversations and having the game play depend on it, I just want to play.
NO Pistols or ammo starting out, sure miss those pistols, and when you do find one, it's empty, then you only find a 12 round magazine for a long time, conversie your ammo. Make sure you don't miss the pistol the first areas.
We wanted to play Lara, not Kurtis, some people might like playing other characters but not us.
Conclusion:
The game is worth the purchase price just to use the cool new features and to look at Lara and the wonderful animations. Game play is ok.
