REMEMBER: DRIVING SIMULATION MEANS DRIVING SIMULATION.

Those that receive this game as a gift are the only people who have any reason to think "this game is hard" or "I can't turn" or "this game is too picky, realistic, etc." This is a (Arcade mode excluded)Race Car Driving Simulation! That has been made abundantly clear on the internet, in every game ranking website and in the description on the back of the game! Somehow people who have played NFS games or Burnout seem to think they actually could drive a real car like they drive in these games. Gran Turismo 3 quickly shakes you out of the fantasy world and into the real world of racing. Practice, just like in the real world, is the only way to master this game. The way I explained it to the kids when they where trin to take 110 degree corners at 75 mph, was to ask them "Do you think we could take corners on Main Street at even half that speed and not expect to hit the Subway Restaurant,or the Bank, or turn into the Speedway Gas Station at that speed and not take out the pumps?" Or "if we where out in the country cruising at 55mph and try to turn off into your driveway without slowing down, do you think we would roll it over?" It really changed their attitude and concentration on the gameplay. Like me they love it and it was all they could talk about for weeks.
Lastly those of you that think it is boring apparently can't get very far in the game. You just have to understand this is so real that with a wheel and pedals it is as close as most of us will get to driving a $150,000.00 Viper GTS at 192 mph! Try and tell me that is not a scream!

Far above the rest

There is absolutely no other game on the market right now that can compare to GT3 A-Spec.And I mean none.I have bought and played them all,and this is the best there is.And the ultimate right now is using a 6 port IEEE firewire hub and hooking up all six PS2 consoles and playing against your friends on 6 separate T.V.'s.One small draw back is not being able to access your cars on your memory card with the I-Link

More of a real simulator, less of an arcade game

I know this series is all about being the total driving simulator, but I just didn't find it that much fun. The AI doesn't seem all that wonderful, and it's just too much realism. If you're looking for an arcade style game to play with friends, I would reccomend that you buy a different title. Way too complicated for me!

I own it

I own the japanese version, and it's the best and the most beautiful game ever. New tracks are fantastic, cars are absolutely gorgeous and Mazda RX-8 rocks. I just need the forcefeedback wheel, now.

Greatest Gran Turismo

I'm consistently dissapointed with video game reviews I read. Anyone who believes Gran Turismo 3 deserves anything above a 70% has just lowered their expectations for games. I guess maybe I keep mine too high but when I read reviews that give GT3 and NBA Street something like perfect scores, I am sickened. Is this it? If GT3 is the best game that the PS2 is ever going to have, i'm getting rid of this junk box. I've driven a handful of the cars in GT3 and let me assure you, realistic driving simulation, this is certainly not. Even the acclaimed graphics of GT3 are really dissapointing. For a second-generation PS2 game, it looks pretty sad. I can't see down the track more than 100 yards, the shadows and dark areas of the tracks make it a guessing game as to when that turn is coming up. But this is just another game following the disturbing trend of being TOO DARK. Apparently game developers have just decided that if we make the graphics too dark to see, we won't be able to tell how mediocre they really are. The replays are boring and just slow me down. You have to exit out of EVERY replay after EVERY race and there's no option to get rid of it. Let me repeat, GT3 DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO TURN OFF THEIR REPLAYS. This is a BASIC option people! The controls are simply horrible. If cars drifted and wondered around like this in real life, everyone would crash every day. The game is HORRIBLY inconsistent. Somehow about 50% of the time, a a little 200hp econobox can beat your 350 hp race car... it's sad. This game is poorly thought out, poorly put together and overall a major dissapointment.

this game is annoying

Everyone is raving about this thing - frankly, I don't see what the big deal is. Yes, the graphics are amazing, but guess what - there is just a handful of tracks in the game, like 8 or 10 I think, with variations (racing in the opposite direction, that is, how clever), and you are made to circle around them thousands of times literally - first on this level, then on that level, first this kind of car, then that kind of car, and it's all the same goshdarned tracks. The developers made up for the lack of variety by throwing in the multitude of different cars you can have. But all you ever need in this game is the F1 car (except races that require some special car).

The Endurance races is another touch of genius here - whoever thought it would be a great idea to sit there circling the same goshdarned track that makes you vomit anyway by the time you get your IA license, for 2 hours?!!! Also, why they insist on you watching preview and review of your every race - I don't know how many times I sat there cursing because I accidentally got into the review or preview mode and had to wait for it to load and only then I could exit. Who the heck wants to watch a review or the preview of the track you've done 1000 times already?

There's 3 levels in the game, but THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM IS THAT YOU HAVE TO CIRCLE FOR MORE LAPS EACH TRACK AND WITH FASTER CAR (AGAIN, F1 WILL SUFFICE IN MOST CASES). For me it got stale when I finished 50% of the game, and I erased the GT3 block on my memory card. I shoulda given this game 1 star, but granted, it kept me engaged until 50% of the game, ... so there.

This is in the top 3 of the most highly anticipated games for the PS2 system. Being in the top as follows: (Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec.) GT2 is the most realistic and graphical racing game in the world. Now with GT3 for PS2, It will smash GT2 and be way over the top of anything. GT3 promises to bring to a new level of graphic sophistication to the sim-like racing experience. The car models in GT3 are exact replicas of the real thing. A first in the series, rain and othe weather effects will be seen in GT3. If you're looking for a good reason to buy a PS2 and haven't been impressed with what you've seen so far, this is definitely a title that'll change your mind. Gran Turismo 3 A-spec is a system seller in every sense of the word. The only real limit is the number of systems that Sony has on the market at the time that the game comes out.

Good graphics...but its mostly rehash...

I can really be honest when i say that GT3 was my least favorite of the series. The graphics are great, but that is about as far as it goes. My biggest complaint about GT3 in a nutshell is that there was absolutely no innovation present. There are less cars, only 2 new tracks, and the liscenses are extremely difficult to obtain. If you think about it, Gran Turismo 1 was completely new to the scene and blew everyone away...GT2 was even better because it had so many cars to win and you felt rewarded for putting in effort...but with GT3 you know the drill. I'm not saying that GT3 was a terrible game, but it could have been a lot better. I would definately rent it first. You will probably have all you can stand in 3 or 4 days.

Far from perfect...

Ok, let's get some things straight. GT3, obviously, is the most talked about game so far on the PS2 platform. .... The only reason the game is selling is because of its previous success with its two predecesors. Graphics get a 10 out of 10. The sound is great too. Other than that, there are way too few tracks and cars, gameplay modes, especially multiplayer, are severely limited, and a ten year old would do better driving a real car than the controls on this game, which are nearly impossible to master. Now don't get me wrong, I own many racing games and am not saying the above just because I dont like the genre. True, it is a great game. However, Sony had the capabilities of making it an outstanding game. In other words, save your money for Metal Gear Solid 2.
