I bought Grand Turismo 3 A-spec about a year ago and i played it for a while .the graphics are the best i've ever seen on any game.yeah its a little slow at the beginning, but its speeds up later on.when i started i had a really crappy toyota for only like 15,ooo. i finally got a faster car.the only bad things are the handling is pretty tough, but i got used to it , and the licenses are really hard to get. i spent like 3 hrs total on them. i got the a,b,ia,ib,and rally licenses but i couldn't get the super.overall this game is excellent i would recommend it everyone and (...) i cant wait to get gran turismo 4.it s defenitely worth your money so go out and buy it!!!!

I'm a driving game fanatic, and Gran Turismo has always reproduced the true-to-life physics of driving cars better than anyone else. Hence, it's not a 'pickup and race' game. The learning curve is pretty hard. The first few times I played Gran Turismo on PS1 I didn't like it, it was too hard to get to know, so my friends were beating me all the time. After I got the hang of it, I found myself wasting hours with it. I still pop it in without the memory card and play from scratch for a couple hours every now and then. I would recommend it to anyone who's really interested in driving games, for sure, you won't be disappointed. If racing games don't do it for you necessarily, you want something sloppier, like the Need for Speed series or Burnout series, which are both fun that anyone can have. Gran Turismo was mostly intended to be cars that you might actually own, hence no Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. There's a couple of high end racing cars added for 3, like Lotus, Panoz, and RUF (a wellknown Porsche speedshop) The most annoying thing in GT3 is that you cannot control the volume of music to sound effects, both are either on or off. It's small, but it does get old after a while, and since the emphasis is on accurate car reproduction, you're stuck straining to hear who is on the radio most of the time. My biggest beef with the whole series is that they have never, ever, to my knowledge, managed to make a release date. GT3 was supposed to launch with the PS2, and it came out almost a year later. GT4 was supposed to be out by April, it's September now and nothing. These are awesomely realistic games though, but even the box says it "Real Driving Simulator", so don't expect to take a 120 degree corner in a Honda Civic at 150mph - just like you wouldn't be able to do it in real life, you're not going to be doing it here.

It is true that if this is your first GT game to play, that you will find it very hard to learn. You'll think that the physics are off and that the liscense tests are impossible. But remember that this game has truely realistic driving physics. Yes it really is easy to sping in a 400 hp car, and almost assuredly so in a 1000hp car. But thats why you can tune the car. Granted you really do have to play with it for a while and have a pretty good knowledge about the various things that you can tweak. For instance I am a car junkie, so I know about all the various parts you can tweak on the cars. I had to spend 3 hours on the RUF RGT fully modded with just over 1000hp, in order to make it drivable with out spinning. The game is very challenging. You can go through it playing the first few races over and over until you get a fast car, then it is easy until the iA class races and endurance races come available. Some of the are insanely hard even with awesome cars. But once again, as soon as you get a F1 car everything becomes easy once again, until you put too much mileage on the car and it loses power. I gave this game 4 starts overall because they took away the used car feature from GT2. This eliminated so many cars. Also there is only I BMW in the game and it is not even a //M model BMW.
This is not just a racing game...

Graphics: 10/10 This game has awesome graphics! If you're looking for a PS2 game with great graphics, this is it!
Music: 10/10 The music matches with the game, however if you don't like rock or rap you won't like the music.
Sound/Visual Effects: 9/10 The sound effects and visual effects are well done, but I wish that when you crashed on a wall you could see the damage.
Gameplay: 10/10 This is not just a racing game, it's a driving sim game! From getting a driver's license to even washing your car, this game will offer hours of enjoyment.
Overall: I'm giving this game 5/5 stars. This game is a must-have for your PS2 game collection.

Gran Turismo 3 simply the most complete, longest lasting racing game that is on the market. There many different tracks and a nearly endless amount of different races that are eventually available to the player. There are not as many cars as GT2, but the cars that were eliminated were the cars that no body cared about anyways. There is something in this game for any person interested at all in any type of racing game. From rally racing, to endurance events, along with the constant upgrading of your cars, it is a game that you will be playing for a very long time.
The only mild disappointment is that GT3 still has not gotten the permission to use names like Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborgini. There is such an array of cars to select from that once you start modifying your cars, that you forget all about them anyways.
Gran Turismo 3 is very challenging, much more so than its predecessors and it offers hours of addicting game play for even the most modest of race fans. This is the only racing game I have given the time of day, and I suggest you do the same if you are looking for the champion in a genre full of losers.

The fact that you don't see any truely exotic cars in GT3, with the exception of RUF tuned Porsche, is EA Sports bought exclusive rights to all of them. I'm sure many of you racing fans played EA's Need For Speed series of games. Well, there's your answer. There's where all the pretty cars went. So, when you nag and cry next time, tell it to EA. 'Nuff said, power to the GT3 team for making the most awesome driving game to date.

With every Gran Turismo version, they just get better. I could spend my 1000 words raving about the graphics alone. Every track is revamped. Cote d'Azure is gorgeous. Watching the Monoco Grand Prix, the streets and corners are easily recognizable as Cote D'Azure. And speaking of Grand Prix cars, in the upper levels they actually have a number of open-wheeled cars you can win. They have added Le Mans Prototypes. The liscense tests, although easier, are also more effective. They improve your driving more dramatically than previous versions of GT did. The rally section is a great improvement over GT2, there is much more to do, and many more cars to play with. I also found that technical adjustments to the cars seemed to have more effect than in previous versions, and it is very easy to crank the gear ratios up and down track to track with the auto settings. I love the fact that tire wear becomes a major issue in the higher levels. The professional league is quite a challenge, because each of the championship series have 10-20 lap races. One of the little features I appreciate most, is the ability to select the soundtrack playlist. I have the power to ditch the rap and Glam Rock, and still have a wide variety of music, so I don't get sick of the same dang songs over and over.
As for things to criticize, there isn't much. I do find it highly annoying to get punted off the track because some pushy Nissan behind me doesn't have enough artifical intelligence to change its racing line. It makes clean driving and professional passes difficult to pull off. It would also be nice if it were possible to take damage. But then, not taking damage really does have its advantages, and it could be argued that the game is better for the lack of it. *shrug* Frankly, there is not really anything I would change about this game. It is about as close to perfect as it gets, in my most humble opinion.

Not only have I played Gran Turismo 3 (which you can do at Sony's Metreon and other places that rock), I have a press-copy of the game. I'm impressed, but it's not as earth-shaking as I hoped it would be. I'm still optimistic that Sony will get it right before releasing it--I'd much rather spend another couple of months anticipating a great game than get a rush-to-production copy that isn't as good as it could have been.
UNBELIEVABLE!! YOU HAVE TO GET THIS GAME!!

I played this game last week (5/30/01) at the Sony building in Tokyo, Japan. It is unbelievable. I have never owned a gaming console before, but I'm going to get a PS2 now if for no other reason than this game. Had I known GT3 was not available here in the US, I would have bought the Japanese version while there. The graphics were incredible! I thought the selection of cars, tracks, and types of racing was quite complete (although I have never seen any of the previous versions). I especially liked the World Rallye Championship racing. I still can't believe it won't be available here till July.

If you're looking for a game with an "arcade" approach; blazing fast cars, amazing effects, etc., this game is NOT for you...If you're looking for a game with a "simulation" approach; life-like physics, amazing and realistic audio, etc., this game is YOU!
This may be somewhat late of a review for a game that has been out for several years. However, it is never too late to praise a game that has yet to find an equal. The Gran Turismo racing series offered by SCEA is the greatest and most innovative racing simulator ever offered. The cars behave as they do in the real world. FF layout vs. FR layout vs. MR layout vs. RR layout. The programmers/engineers of this game have painstakenly added virtually every element to make it as realistic as possible.
Examples include:
Changing engine oil to improve power.
Tire compound.
Motor modifications.
Transmission ratios.
Aerodynamic effects.
Suspension adjustment.
The list of tunability for each car is endless. Again, I stress that if you're looking for an "arcade" racer, this game will most likely bore you and confuse you. If you are a bonafide car enthusiast, this game is for you.
The release of Gran Turismo 4 is on the horizon. It will be interesting to see what improvements are possible over the current game. Until then, GT3 will continue to run on the PS2.
