Sleeper hit of 2005

Now I want you to take a sec and settle down; breathe deep, and think of the best game you've ever played.

Did it involve Legos, or perhaps Star Wars? Maybe both?

That's right folks, Lego Star Wars goes down in my book as the best game I've played all year. True, I'm a Star Wars buff. True, I still love Legos (and why not). True, this game is perhaps the most addicting thing I've seen since first picking up the brick that was the NES controller so long ago (13 years if I'm not mistaken). A lot of people are probably going to pass this up because it seems too kiddy. It's actually pretty darn hard! And did I mention fun?

It is a 'kids' game, but I find it more engaging than GTA (personal opinion, don't flame me). There is just something about all my favorite Star Wars creations as Legos, moving about in the Lego Star Wars world doing that thing they do. The fact that there are (I believe) 60 playable characters, each with their own abilities, requiring you to switch back and forth through gameplay to get those hard to reach items. And 'Free Mode' is a blast. It allows you to choose a character (two if multiplayer) out of the roster, then you're 'team' is automatically chosen by the computer. Because 'Story Mode' doesn't allow you to pick up everything on the first try, this is a cool addition. There isn't any voice acting, but scenes from the film are played out humourously as the characters play charades to get their point across. And the simplicity of the controls means the only times you will die will be your own fault (that's a lie, the camera can be fussy).

Maybe it's the kid in me. Maybe it's the fact that I'm a Star Wars slave. But this is the best game I've played in awhile. So if you're looking to take a mild break from the blood and gore that is Doom 3, maybe you should settle on in to the good wholesome fun that is LEGO Star Wars! At least give it a try.

Oh, and you can play as Yoda...YODA!

Great game

This is a fabulous game, especially for children. My 6 year old and 4 year old have had a fabulous time and I have enjoyed jumping in as well. No, it is not a big bad RPG like Morrowind but it is a great lego game.

May the fun be with you

Lego Star Wars is the greatest Star Wars game on earth. When you destroy something or someone it shatters into a buch of lego pieces. Star Wars+Lego=Fun. And its not only for kids. Many adults enjoy playing Lego Star Wars. The game is extremly fun. You can use the force to throw yor enemies or you can take your light saber out and chop em into lego peices. Or you can blast them with your pistol if you are Padme.

Frustrating this game is

I really enjoyed Lego Star Wars it's low on blood and violence, it has impressive animations and graphics, the storyline is loyal to all of the prequels and has the original soundtrack composed by John Williams. Anyone can play this game, the controls are easy and very simple. There are two different modes of gameplay Story mode and Free play mode. In Story mode you must play through all three of the prequel movies and a little bit of Episode.4, the cut scenes contain no dialouge but stay true to the movies. In Free play mode you can play any level you want be any character you want so you can collect all of the mini-kit pieces and Lego Studs to unlock cheat codes and characters.

The multiplayer is good but the camera is rather annoying which can lead to many arguements about " who died " and " why did you do that? ". It is frustrating when looking for studs and mini-kits when your friend is going to a place where you don't want to go so the camera goes all over the place and then things can get a little nerve racking. The option of killing your friend if you want to can release some of the bottled-up frustration and anger, it usually helps if you take breaks after completeing each level. Overall this game is worth buying if you're like me and you're absolutley crazy about Star Wars, but others might find the game a tad-bit too easy to beat so I would rent it before you buy it to save some money.

Fresh, New Concept

This game is great. Bottom line. A combat game based on Star Wars, using Legos! No blood. No gory sounds (except for the crumbling of legos as they bounce across the floor). As a parent, this is a wonderful alternative for my 7 year old, who adores Star Wars.

Plus you get to play with Lightsabers!!!! If this were 1980, I'd be in heaven! Legos, Lightsabers, and Star Wars! Pass the chocolate milk and cookies!

There are some great features included as well, especially for those in my situation--the game is for my kid, but some of the puzzles are just a little too tough for him. The "drop in" play is fabulous. If my son gets stuck, I can pick up another controller, help him out for 5 minutes, and jump out. There's no requirement for me to play through to a tough spot with him. Jump in, get'er done, drop out.

Also, it can be played in "story line" mode or "free play" mode. Each has its benefits.

Dexter's Diner allows you to change between unlocked content very quickly.

Two things lacking--I don't see where it has any kind of "head to head" mode, which could be enjoyable. It doesn't take away from the package, though. You CAN battle head to head, but there's no real forum for it, which would be nice. As is, you can whack the other guy whenever/where ever you like. Something slightly more formal would be fun.

The other thing I wish it required is a little more strategy and planning. The puzzles are reasonable for the "Everyone" tag, but I wish they required a little more strategy or planning. As I see it currently, if you don't have the right character, you can just switch on the fly. It would be a nice touch to require the player to plan ahead for a segment, and have to bring the right "resources" along.

Five out of Five stars! 9.5 out of 10 on a 10 point scale!

Adorable, this game is! Hints I have, yeeess!

The story mode for the game was easy (two hours tops!!). But the real challenge was finding all the minikit and the superkit (blockade runner) as well as getting enough studs to unlock everything (including a playable level from the first movie [note: I don't refer to it as Episode 4]). It's fun for both kids and adult alike. Being a Star Wars fan and someone who loved LEGOs as a kid, I got a real kick out of this game. Nonfans may rate it a little lower, but not by much.
The graphics are great and just plain adorable. It stay true to the movies and has quite a few "tongue in cheek" moments in the story portions.
Also note, some of the minikit pieces are hard to find (especially in the droid foundry and count dooku levels of Ep 2). My advice is when you start those 2 levels is to look behind you! It's out of camera range when you start but trust me it's there. Also the beach head part of the Kashykk level, pull out all three carots (it may take some time but you'll find them) and a minikit will apere on the big boulder to your right. Hope you found the review and hints helpful. "Pass on what you have learned."

I bought this game for my 7 year old after reading the other reviews. I bought it as a birthday gift in April and he is still playing it as though he just received it. He loves this game. It is sometimes difficult to find games that are challenging, fun to play, and age appropriate, but this one definately fits all categories. I would highly recommend this game to any parent looking to buy an exciting child friendly game.

Unexpecting, but Great

I'm a fan of star wars and I love playing the games. This game was no exception. The game lets you play the first three episodes. I guess they did that because it would be way too short. The game is very addicting and you find yourself beating an episode in 15 minutes to a half an hour.
The graphics in this game are great. You will see it is along the kids line, but i liked it too. They did a great job on the lightsabers and they look great when you are swingin them around. When you are watching the cutscenes, the characters dont talk. I've never seen legos talk, but its kind of wierd seeing them just do stuff. The game gets funny and you see the lego characters do stupid things and funny things. They do skip a lot of the stuff in the movie, they just skim along the episodes. Like in the second one they just skip to obi-wan showing the long neck guys the dart instead of seeing it get shot into that girl. So if you havn't seen the movies then you wont really get it. I do like the environments, everything is legos and it looks cool in a star wars universe.
The gameplay is great. You get to be all the characters. Each jedi you be will have different moves wioth the lkightsaber and each different character has different things they can do, like little anakin can crawl into small places and padme has those shooting things so you can get to higher places. The game makes you use the force a lot and you get these little lego pieces which are like money so you can buy things in dexters diner like characters and funny stuff. The characters look great except for yoda and little anakin and general greivous. Those three look a little wierd. Yoda is as tall as obi-wan and the same goes for little anakin and general grievous doesnt really look like himself. There is a lot of good boss fights and you have to come back in the levels and be different people so you can unlock all the secrets in the game, like some places may be to high for your jump, but if you be jar jar in that level you can get to those hard to reach places, just so u got more stuff to do. The game is for two players also so you can do the episodes with a friend. During the episodes you can change to some of the characters that are with you, so you can instantly change from obi-wan to R2 D2. You also have unlimited lives and when you die u only lose some money, it makes it really easy. The life thing took me long to get. theres like 5 hearts and when you get shot u lose a heart. IT will get frustrating when there is a lot of droids shooting at you, cause five shots and your dead, but seconds later ur back, right where u died. This game is great and is really good for a kid who likes star wars and legos, its really easy for them. I like this game a lot and i recommend you getting it. [...]

Don't miss out!!!

Put it this way, I hate Legos but I love this game. I actually have been playing all the other star wars games trying to find a "regular" game that I like but I think I'm gonna have to go with the Legos (its the best star wars game)

Great Game

I know you see lego in the title and you think that this game is not for adults. I have seen previous reviews for this game and everyone gave this atleast 4 1/2 stars so I told me wife that we should get this for our son. Little did she know that I wanted to play this also. We just bought the game and I have been playing it for the last three hours while my son is in bed sleeping. It is a great game and I love how many unlockable characters there are. When my son is awake and ready to play he can understand the button secquence very easily. This is a great game and suggest it for people of all ages.
