For Kids AND adults!

Ok, so I myself am a LONGTIME gamer who is also a parent to a 3-year old boy and 1-year old girl. I enjoy complicated strategic types of games.

My wife and I purchased this game for my 3-year old son this past Christmas. I figured it would be a safe bet because it's age appropriate, has an easy control configuration, and good/cute graphics. Well I was absolutely right!

You can play two players simultaneously. While some aspects of the game play are frustrating. (The main one being that if one player is going one way on the screen while the other is trying to go another it's like playing a game of "tug of war") But none the less, the fun of the game far outweighs that slight issue.

My son has been playing the game for 4 days now and has mastered the control interface. Keep in mind, my son is only 3 years old and when I came home last night he had completed two levels on his own. (Though my son is sharp, he isn't a video game genius so I would expect a child of this age to be able to comprehend at the same level)

So now that you know this game is playable by a 3-year old, I must also tell you that I enjoy playing it myself and I am 30. Again, I tend to go for the more complicated / strategic games such as the Splinter Cell series, Ghost Recons, and such Lego Star Wars is very fun. Though my 3 year old can muddle through levels on his own, there are other tasks you have to accomplish to unlock other parts of the game. Some level areas are too difficult for my son to get through and I end up having to help him. But what's nice is that we can both play this game together and have a good time.

In summary, if you are looking for a good, age appropriate game that both yourself and your child can play, then Lego Star Wars is the ticket.

Two Games in One

LEGO Star Wars is really two games in one, Story Mode and Free Play.

Story Mode
In Story Mode it's a platformer that is fairly easy. Like most platformers you jump around and collect coins, in this case LEGO "studs" that you can use to upgrade your characters (buying items that range from mustaches to invinsibility) and buy additional characters. You also collect canisters. There are 10 in each level.

You also fight the bad guys. It is fairly easy because when you die you are brought back to life instantly in the same place where you died. There are a couple of exceptions, like the pod race or the assault on starships, where you are in a vehicle and when you die you start over at a pervious "save" point. There are a few combo moves you can use, but the controls and simple and easy.

Free Play
Free Play allows you to go back to a level you already won in Story Mode and play using other characters. You need to do this if you want to find all the hidden canisters. Finding the canisters makes Free Play more like an Adventure/Puzzle game. This is because, in addition to running around and blasting/exploring every nook and cranny of the level to find the canisters, you have to figure out which characters to use. Each character has its own special ability. So you have to figure out which set of characters to use to get each canister.

For example, some canisters are locked in rooms that only certain droids can access. Others are placed on high platforms that only charaters who can jump extra high can access. (Jar-Jar Binks can jump extra high so you'll want him along most of the time. I didn't care for Jar-Jar in the movies, but he's great in the game.)

I found Free Play harder than Story Mode because some of those canisters are pretty well hidden or you can see them but it takes some thinking and exploring to discover how to get to them.

The multiplayer is fun but requires a lot of cooperation. Because you can't control the camera you have to work togehter when you move around the different levels. And sometimes your partner has to "drop out" so you can get somewhere, then "drop in" again to resume. I don't think that is a flaw, just an added layer of gameplay.

The graphics are very good. It's fun to see all the characters from Star Wars done up like LEGOs. And you get to play all three of the prequel movies!

Overall it's a very fun game. If you like platformers, adventure/puzzle games or Star Wars I think you'll enjoy it. If you don't like platformers then you'll probably want to pass on this one.

I gave this game to my son for his 6th birthday. It has been the best game we have ever purchased! It satisfied his need for a "shooting" game and I felt good because there isn't any of the blood & guts usually associated with those type of games. When characters "die," they simply fall apart. Also, when your character dies, you automatically come back to life without having to go back to the beginning of the level. It is easy to jump in and out of the game on a 2 player level to help through the difficult parts and it has some more challenging tasks for adults. It took about a month to beat the game, but as with all children's games or movies, kids like to play/watch them over and over again. I HIGHLY recommend this game and hope they come out with a game featuring Episodes 4,5,&6 soon.

I haven't been compelled to write a review of anything that I have purchased from Amazon, but my 5 year old and I love this game. Lots of fun..easy to understand for the most part. Some of the puzzles are tough for my 5 year old, but then the adult can jump right in to help. Lots of characters. If any of you want some sneak peeks into the plot of the new movie it is all here too. Buy this game for you and your kid. You will love it.

Great fun for all ages, challenge as well

My son got this for Christmas and had previously played in-store demos to know he really liked this game. He's 6 yrs old and the limited time for gameplay that he gets each day goes VERY quickly when he plays this game. It's completely engrossing, moving the LEGO characters around the spaceships and various other movie sets, exploring ways to get more LEGO studs (which add to your points), etc.
My favorite features are the 2-player mode which is SO easy to enter and exit from, no need to restart the story or anything! I also love the Freeplay option which allows the players to choose who they want to be in any scene - so you can be Jango Fett and fight the real Jango Fett to even the odds a bit.
There are several gameplay moments that are challenging, the podrace scene, for example, required perfect timing to get thru in time. Luckily you're allowed what seems to be endless tries to finish it!

Overall LOTS of fun for any age.

This has got to be the best X-Box game for kids, ever! Our boys could not get enough! I would recommend this game to anyone with young kids. No language and no graphic violence since it's Star Wars and Legos.

For PS2 this game was awesome!!!! i dont have any other platforms so i dont know about any others but i thought it was really cool, the graphics were avg. compared to most PS2 games and the concept of LEGO and star wars put together was just the icing on the cake. It is a clean game with no gore or blood or anything, so if your parents are like mine and are very strict about what games u can play then even they will let u play THIS game 8-) -its a smiley
