The first truly great XBox game

This is the best purchase you can make for the XBox yet. It's better than Halo, better than Max Payne, this thing is it. It came out yesterday and I couldn't wait so I ran out and bought it. It fulfilled every expectation I had for it. I have never seen so many enemies on a screen at one time with such good graphics. Finally, a really, really good reason to own an XBox.

Great Multi-Player Fun

The previous reviews pretty much describe how the game is played.
What I would like to add is this game is incredibly fun with a group a people. We rented Hunter for a week and played many long nights of fun and laughter.
If you are into playing single player games, Hunter is nothing special.
If you are having a few people over for the evening and like hack and slash action, this game is a must try.
Given the recent drop in price, I would say this game is worth purchasing.

This game is a little repetitive and the company that publishes the Game (Interplay) wont release the codes. There is an invincibility code in the game it says as one of the tips but the...company wont release it. The only ones released was Max damage, All weapons, and STUPID Sound Check. And you can only do the all weapons code once every level... The only reason I suggest buying this game instead of renting is that it takes a while to beat unless you play for at least 6 HOURS A DAY EVERYDAY until its due back. It is worth checking out though.

The controls are my main problem and the fact that you get overpowered in some parts making it difficult if not impossible to play this game. I love White Wolf. I Love RPG games...and this game has potential just not really the RIGHT stuff.

Impossible in single-player mode

Okay, while I like the premise of Hunter the Reckoning: Zombies and monsters and werewolves oh my! I began to quickly become jaded. I dislike games where all there is to do is hit the trigger button. Can we say repetitive stress injury? I like a little bit of a plot with my carnage.

I encountered a couple of glitches in the game, which bugged me as well. At one level I got stuck in a wall, and could not move, I just had to wait until the zombies mauled me to death, in another level, the camera got stuck in 'far away' mode, and even though I attempted to adjust the perspective, I couldn't. I was forced to watch from a distance, as my character got hit by monsters I couldn't see. This was the most frustrating glitch.

Also, I was disappointed in my inability to save, until nearly the end of each level, which meant I had to go back to the beginning and start over, everytime I was killed. This game is almost impossible to complete in single-player mode without cheating. It was so frustrating to try to go through levels with dozens of monsters spawning all around you only to watch your life bar dwindle to nothingness. I understand from other reviews that this game is really intended for multi-player audience. I whole-heartedly agree. It was fun playing with a friend, impossible in single player mode.

Overall, I give it 3 stars for an interesting concept and good graphics. But I'll have to pass, unless the next one has more plot and is a little less dark. I prefer my horror to be subtle. Not graveyards filled with hundreds of endlessly spawning monsters. That's just boring.

This game offers up pretty decent graphics and gore. You get to choose from several different characters with different "edges". The controls are relatively simple to master but it is obvious (as you progress through the game) that you are gonna need some help. You quickly get outnumbered as you reach the higher levels and will get mauled very quickly, which becomes tedious and frustrating. As a one-player game, I give it two stars. Now, if you shift gears into a multi-player game, it's a whole different story. The game is actually fun and you don't feel like you're being set up to fail. As a multi-player game it gets four stars and is worth the effort. If you plan on mostly playing this one solo, look elsewhere.

Its fun on single player but after beating it the game lost some intrest but it was still pretty fun.It was even better if you picked a difrent type of hunter the sceond time you play. If you have 3 friends who wanna play on a saterday night break out the soda becuase you are going to have so much freaking fun if you play the game from start to end. The only hard part is picking who should be who as far as picking a hunter to play as. :)

this game is flat out FUN!! i wouldnt go as far as to say its better then halo but its the best game on xbox since halo. yes its a hard game but the multiplayer is fun if your friends know how to play. the only problem with the game is the camera is in difficult angles sometimes but it doesnt ruin it. tons of weapons and firepower, and there are over 30 different types of enemies like mutant sewer rats and peices of meat to giant teddy bears and gargoyles. you will love this game, i garuntee it, its the Resident Evil of xbox in a different form. instead of peeing your pants scared its laugh out loud fun!

This game is great! Single player, i don't know i have never played it single player, but i would be the judge if i was going to... I played this game with 2 friends and wow we played hours and hours and hours. Maybe it was just not being alone part for video games. There is only one person i dont like being on this game and its the girl with daggers, i totally used her 2 guns and just popped off peices and made it easier for my friends to kill to much moving and shooting with her. But i was only her once and then i was like F it and made a rule where i wasnt her again. This game is great the story is good, a lil hard to figure out. You go through weapon ammo quickly with special weapons. But i love this game and forever will.

Definitely more fun with friends

I'm a pretty big fan of Role Playing Games, I tend to try and experience all the varieties that are offered, just to at least experience something new and different. Hunter: The Reckoning is a little different by RPG video game standards, but it's hardly a revolutionary game. I think this is the first time I've come across a table top RPG converted to video game that did not allow the users to upgrade the characters on their own. Now, I haven't played the table top game, so I'm not entirely sure how that system worked, but I'm willing to try it out.

On top of this the story line involved demons, and I tend to like things of that ilk, so I thought this might appeal to me. I must say the story line wasn't as well done as I thought. It certainly can't compete on the same level as something like Diablo, which is really the premeire game for killing demons in my book! The background story felt kind of random and thrown together, but the game play and challenge factor kind of saved the game.

The background story basically consists of this: There was apparently an incident at a prison many years ago and your characters were there watching a murderer be executed (no idea why) when all of a sudden people around them turned into monsters. They faught their way out and boarded up the prison, today they have returned because the ghosts/demons or whatever have returned to feast on the souls and bodies of people throwing a rave in the prison. Seriously... who throws a rave in a prison? A fairly loose premise of a video game, but in the end your characters have to lock the spirits back up and save the world!

As a single player game Hunter: The Reckoning sucks and has virtually no value to me, but play it with a few friends and it actually becomes pretty fun. The game is challenging in some areas and you have to sit down and strategize with your friends. I don't think this game has endless hours of fun, because after beating it, you're kind of done with it. The game took only two evenings for my friends and I to conquer, and the shortness is the only reason why a replay is viable. I would say, in terms of replay value, you can only go through it twice before it gets really boring at the most. The camera control really does kind of suck, I saw some reviewers touch upon that. I do realize that as a game designer camera control problems are tantamount in a multi-player overhead RPG. I really think the programmers could have handled it a lot better and really should've gone in a different direction.

Overall I thought this game was pretty fun, but only when I played it with a few friends. I gave it a three overall because of some design flaws, the weak storyline, and not being able to level up your character on your own. Maybe I'm just picky, but I've come to expect a lot more from RPG's thanks to very epic games like Diablo, Knights of the Old Republic, etc. Pick this up you're looking for a multiplayer game to get together with a few friends and delve into a different world.
