Cheap for a Reason

Have you ever heard the old adage that the average human uses only 10% of his/her brain? Well, "Hunter, the Reckoning" uses only about 5% of the Xbox's awesome capabilities. In some respects, your average Gameboy game is more sophisticated than this stinker.

Example: the game subscribes to the familiar Xbox standard of left joystick to move, right joystick to turn the character in different directions. In "Hunter", you may face the character in any direction you choose, as long as it's Up, Down, Left, or Right. Yep. You can toggle through the four points of the compass. No "in-betweenies" for you.

Other disappointments: you can jump, but not over anything. Attacks combos are seemingly random. For example, some characters will always strike behind them as well as in front with a single pull of the right trigger. As is common for this type of game, you have a meter that denotes the number of spells you can cast. Oddly, this meter is called "conviction". As if killing multiple zombies. would cause the character's "conviction" to waver. Something was lost in the translation, I guess.

This would have made an awesome game for the original Nintendo system. For an Xbox game, however, it is decidely sub-average.

pretty good

First off the game is fun and long, just how i like them. It progressively gets harder though like any game should. I like how the zombies keep coming, slasher games are fun when you are bored. Although my only complaint is when you get to carpentar and how long it takes to kill him, he would look like a pin cushin if the effects took play after all those shots. And then you have to fight the wolf, but he isnt too bad. Oh and the rocket launcher, if you are to close when you shoot somebody you explode instead of them, thats all i have to say. Its a great game and well worth the money.

I bought this game being a fan of White Wolf RPG's, but was pretty disapointed with this. On the plus side, the graphics and sound were both impressive. The level scenery was great and the bosses were creative, though not particularly challenging.

Unfortunately, the greater part of the game is spent running around hacking apart endless hordes of nearly identical zombies. This goes on level after level with no real changes. I'd recomend renting it if your a White Wolf fan, you'll easily be able to beat the game before you have to take it back. I can't imagine wanting to play it again after you've beaten it once.

4P Gauntlet "Horror Movie Style"

There are so many reviews for this game already that i will keep mine short and sweet...... Take the arcade fun & feel, magic variations & player experience points, with constant slashing of enemies in Gauntlet and shove it through the gates of a horror zombie infested nation and you will get Hunter.

Its a senseless violent game with a story just strong enough to feel like its all being done for a good cause. buy this game for its 4 player fun, especially because at get-togethers you think FuzionFrenzy is just too "kiddy" for your buddies.

Just plain bad

Bad movement, bad story, bad voices, bad characters. Just a bad game all around. If you want to have a bad time, this is the game for you.

"hunter" aint all that

this game looks nice and is mildly entertaining, but, is much too short, much too easy and overall, a let down. if you enjoy games that last more than 4 hours: save your money and rent it, 5 days is plenty of time to complete this game.

A Stepped Up Gauntlet For The Xbox Owners

The first game that involved four players fighting against creatures of varied types with characters of varied strengths and weaknesses was Gauntlet for the NES back in 1987. Fast-forward to 2002 and the Xbox is screaming for a decent four-player game that uses the same basic principle that won Gauntlet so much acclaim. I'll start first with the control scheme as comfort while playing the game decides whether or not it's picked up again. The control scheme is close to where you won't realize your holding a controller and you'll feel comfortable enough to go through the game. Sound is decent enough with the ambience delivered by the game is enough to send a shiver or two down your spine at points throughout the game. The concept is close enough with a feeling of a four player resident evil in which you fight the undead through the streets of a no-name town. Playability is good enough with the ease of being able to pick the game up and just go is really good. Finally, the replay value on the game is really good as it is worth being able to pull the game out and play it while you have three friends over. Start the game at about 8 in the evening and the fun just goes on from there. However, with this genre it can be a situation of hit or miss depending on how you feel about games built on the platform of multiplayer. So, invite three friends over, rent the game and play Hunter for awhile. If you feel it's worth buying, then do just that. Happy Hunting...

Fun action game with an undead theme

To be honest, I was never really interested in this game until I played the demo on the latest OFFICIAL XBOX MAGAZINE disc. I found myself playing the 1st demo stage over and over, despite the simplistic gameplay. Hunter is a pure action game, reminiscent of those Gauntlet games of the mid-80's, but with FAR better graphics, spells, and an intriguing plot. You can even play with up to 4 people simulataneously which makes this a great game when you have friends over!

While simplistic (usually you just clear the enemies that are thrown or spawned at you to progress) and oftentimes repetitive, there's just something about the gameplay that seems to draw you in. You are given a melee and projectile weapon and I can't even tell you how fun it is to simply kick back, and pound your way through a mob of enemies. There are a few puzzle elements and an escort mission, but nothing too tough. Perhaps the reason why I enjoyed this game so much is that the pure-action approach is a welcome relief from all the strategy and FPS games I've been playing lately. Definitely an old-school concept on a modern console which is refreshing and reminds me of the fun 8-bit NES days.

The game is rather easy and you will complete it in less than a week, but Hunter has staying power. I've unlocked several new modes and I'm currently on my second game using a different character. It's rare that I replay games, but this is an exception. My recommendation is to buy Hunter as I feel it is the type of game you'll pull off the shelf after you're beaten it simply because of the fun, action-oriented gameplay it provides!

Great multiplayer action game

Hunter is a fun multiplayer game. With options to turn off friendly-fire damage to off or on, this game also requires people to watch who they shoot at and make sure they dont actually hit their own allies and just the monsters.

Fun Fun Fun, for more than one...

Hunter: The Reckoning is a very good game. If you've played any of the Gauntlet games, it's pretty much the same deal (one to four players, working for the common good), but this one is better. There are four characters (ironically all fitting each of my friends): The Martyr (a raver, like me!), the Defender, The Judge, and the Truck Driver (no, that not a mistake). Each character gets one long-range weapon (a gun or guns) an one close range weapon (a sword of knives). Infinite ammo is easy to earn right from the start (a BIG plus). The only downfall it that it would become tiresome with only one player, having to keep running back for health. A great party game, not a great single player game.

Overall: Buy only if using more than one player.
