I own the Onimusha for the PS2, and for the Xbox, and I definetly noticed some good differences, and changes.
First off the game Onimusha in general is simply one of the greatest games ever created. From Onimusha 1-4 is a pleasure to play for each minute, and I believe Genma Onimusha definetly is even better than the original. For example, I saw a noticable change in the graphics, which were MUCH more clear and simply better than the original for PS2.
Not only a difference in this, but the gameplay has actually changed noticably. Simply just a great game and incredibly fun to play. Here would be my ratings if I were to rate the game:
Graphics: 10/10
Better, improved, and one of the nicer looking games for the Xbox.
Gameplay: 9/10
The only reason why I didn't give it a 10 is because it DOES NOT SUPPORT ANOLOG! Thats why the gameplay is slightly linear, and hard to play at first since it is not and anolog game when most games I play DO support anolog, including Onimusha 3, and 4.
Sound: 8/10
If you notice, the sound is a little fuzzy, and not as clear as it should be.
Music: 10/10
The music in Onimusha is always awsome.
Story: 10/10
Incredible story and charcters.
Overall: 10/10
Simple just a GREAT game, just like its sequals.
If you are reading this review and you currently do not have the game, do yourself a favor AND GET IT NOW!!!!! A highly recommended game.

This game has been said to be just a port or copy of the PS2 game Onimusha. This isnt a port. This is Genma Onimusha.
Having played and beaten the PS2 Onimusha on hard level. I must say that this Genma Onimusha for XBOX can be crazy hard! The easy level on Genma Onimusha is a tad bit tougher than the normal level on PS2!! And it only get tougher.
There is a new tug of war system now for the green souls. Instead of just taking them in to enhance your swords, the monsters now want the green souls and will try very hard to suck them in. This adds alot to gameplay. 1st, while your trying to suck up the green soul against a monster trying to do the same, you are VERY vunerable to attacks from other monsters. So most of the time you have to let the green soul go just to defend yourself.
2nd, if the monsters get the green soul they will become what Resident Evil players call "crimson heads" Look out!
And if a Boss gets a green soul.... oh boy.. your gone!!
There are monsters here that were not even in the PS2 version!
But even with the toughness of the bosses and even with the numbers of monsters you'll encounter, this game is fun! The graphics are very nice and the soundtrack is perfect. For the few pennys you'll pay for this game you just have to have this game. If you pay a hundred dollars or one dollar for any game you have, this game must be played by survival horror fans.
Plus.......the trick box puzzles are fun too!
Hope this helps and i hope you play it.
Can only recommend this for the hardcore gamer

I like survival horror games and I like samurai games so I thought this would be a pretty good game. After playing it for a couple of weekends, I can' t fully recommend it to the casual gamer.
First off, the control scheme never really gelled with me. It wasn't difficult to manuever around but it never completely felt natural to me...paticularly when you are engaged in battle.
Because of that, the game seem unnaturally difficult --especially the boss fights. The worst character to deal with was this seemlying unstoppable demonic doll which flys around in the air.
I've played a lot of games before but I never felt so frustrated like this one. There were times I wanted to smash my controller on to the ground.
I give this game points on the great graphics and sound but you may want to rent this one before buying.
THIS IS THE REVIEW TO READ!!

Yes, the controls are awful for the first 30 minutes! After you have adjusted to that you will be playing one of the best xbox games ever! I warn you the controls will seem terrible at first, but after a while you will have enormous fun with this game! My favorite games for the x-box are "Buffy the vampire slayer", "Genma Onimusha" and Halo. My favorite PC games are Deus EX, System Shock, and Half-life. If you just use a little patience with this game you will have a lot of fun.
p.s. the doll will give you nightmares!!
YOU WILL HATE THE CONTROLS AT FIRST!! THIS IS COMING FROM A DEDICATED FPS FAN!! GET OVER IT AND KEEP PLAYING, THIS GAME ROCKS!!
Onimusha at its best!

This is a great game. From playing the playstation 2 versions you are expecting it to be good. This game harnesses the graphic capabilitys of the xbox. This is like onimusha 1 1/2. This game is like onimusha 2, If you get 5 green orbs you turn into onimusha and become invincible for a short period of time. Another great thing is it has the challenging puzzles that make you think in order to get valuable items. This game will take a long while to beat, their are always places you can easily pass by. The graphics are alot better than in the playstation 2 version which is also a plus. So dont be hesitant to get this game if you can find it it is well worth the money.
Unmistakably great

Do not be misled by the difficult controls of the D pad. You will get used to it in no time. This is a great, dynamic game that takes you through an interesting world. It is full of action, contains great graphics and a perfect gameplay. Too bad they don't have Onimusha sequels for the Xbox.
Excellent graphics!

This game is by far the best video game I have ever played. Took me a while to beat and I am still working on getting the S rank. If anyone is looking for an action game that has blood and gore, this is it.
Fun game, but bad controls and poor game engine.

The controls are terrible. The enemies are slow, stupid, and predictable. You can either run to pass the enemies or slaughter them over and over and over again by reentering the same area (hints: this is a great way to collect red souls to enhance all your swords to level 3: this makes killing the tougher enemies a walk in the park). The only areas in the game that may challenge you are the Dark Realms and the Ogre's Tower. I suggest that you get all your power jewels and magic jewels first, prior to entering these areas. The end boss is a total joke--his moves are so predictable. The only enemy in the game that may cause some uneasiness is the little girly doll with knives--one strategy is to avoid fighting her altogether if you can. Notwithstanding all these negative comments, the game is fun in an undignified way--you get to destroy a horde of brain death foes: watch them fragged by your lightning; watch them fried to a golden crispiness by your fire; watch them shredded into mere atoms by your wind (and I don't mean gas).
C'mon. It's not that hard!

The controls are a little weird at first but once you get used to them they aren't so bad. Everyone complains that the enemies are to tough, but thats not true. If you can figure out the enemies attack patterns, and know when to run away (thats right, I said "run away!" There's no point in sticking around a room full of monsters when you don't get anything for it!) then this game isn't so hard.
The graphics are really good. The only problem I had was the fact that you can't change camera angles, and this can be awkward in a few places. The sound is great (though I don't have a stero setup, so it might not be so good for those who do). And it's got a fairly cool story line.
The only problem I had with the game is it's length. It's very, very short. It only took me four and a half hours the first time I played it, and left me wanting more...
Onimusha= Champion- CHAMPION OF ALL XBOX GAMES

This is by far the best Xbox game that I own. I have played the PS2 version at a friend's, but Genma Onimusha is a little different. The green souls are an added on feature which makes you invincible for a few seconds (great for beating bosses) and three element orbs, which you can enhance and attach to your sword to use magic attacks. There are new enemies in different places and tweaking of items in different locations and an additional sidequest towards the end of the game. If you have an Xbox and looking for a great Action/Adventure game, pick up Genma Onimusha.
PS- The controls are difficult at first but you will get used to them! I've played Genma Onimusha so much, that it feels strange to play a game with the joystick!
