Great addition to the XBOX library!

This game is truly an enhancement from its PS2 version. Deeper game play and new elements (enemies, green soul, and new areas) certainly brings more excitement. Great sound score! Only wish the graphics can be further improved to show off on the XBOX! Oh, this is a hard game to play. Well deserve 4 stars!

Hard but a great game

Intense action, awesome graphics, great gameplay. The more I play it the better it gets. This one is the second best game for the xbox, next to Halo.

Unmistakably great

Do not be misled by the difficult controls of the D pad. You will get used to it in no time. This is a great, dynamic game that takes you through an interesting world. It is full of action, contains great graphics and a perfect gameplay. Too bad they don't have Onimusha sequels for the Xbox.

Thank God I didn't purchase this!

I rented a copy from [a video store]. The commercials looked cool, most of the reviews I read were favorable, and I liked the theme etc... Then I loaded it into my console and attempted to play. The controls are difficult to get used to and not at all intuitive and you cannot customize them at all. The story is very broken up and I was disappointed to have some of the screens where the player is "in contol" be so simplistic (goal: walk across room). The graphics were still pretty good, but as far as I'm concerned, that's all it has going for it and it simply isn't enough to keep me interested.

I got this game on 1/30/02. This game is differnt than the PS2 version . It has new enemies and area's. This game is very fun . In this game you can get green soul's or you can play tug of war over them with the enemies , that's very hard. This game is very hard and harder than the PS2 version. I recomend picking this game up if your a Action/Adventure/Horror fan. This game is action packed with Sword Slashing Fun.

This is overall a solid game. I have not gamed really on consoles since the 8 bit nintendo days, but this was a great leap into the modern age with my 1st game and a new xbox. Graphics, interactions are solid. Once downside is I have to keep relaying levels until I beat it over and over sometime. Eventually if you keep getting killed you will activate a easy setup that is quite embarassing! Good luck

This is a great game and it is highly (make that very highly) recomended. It took me hours to find a complaint and it is one simple one that could make you change from loving it to hating it or (if your like me) it dosen't matter at all. The game is hard. My friend tried playing it and he struggled. That didn't mean he didn't have any fun though. He also (like me) loved it, and I think you'll love it. I think it is fun just walking around talking to people and then beating them up. Again I would highly recomend this! (Unless you are the worste gamer in the world and hate hard games, but you don't, right?)

Genma Onimusha is a port of a PS2 game, that was originally designed for the PSX. If my memory serves me correctly, its original destination wasn't even the PSX, but one of the other last-generation console systems. I'm not sure. The point being, the game was originally designed around limited hardware, and in many ways, it shows.

Rather than the dynamic, 3-D backgrounds of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, or Silent Hill 2, GO has largely prerendered backgrounds, interspersed with some 3-D objects. As a result, the camera is completely static, and you're stuck with the camera angles that the designers chose for you. While most of the time, that isn't a problem, the fact that the only control scheme is character-relative can sometimes get you stuck in a corner, being attacked by an enemy, not knowing which way you're facing. That invariably leads to a quick death.

Though this sort of "trap" can be supremely annoying, GO manages to overcome its technical limitations by creating a world that's interesting, and fun to explore. My favorite moments in GO were the moments between battles, where you are free to wander the areas you've opened, and simply revel in the artistry of the world you're in.

While it's not a game for everyone, with its limited digital-only control, static camera angles, and ludicrous difficulty, the beauty of the game, the compelling world that Capcom has created, and the authenticity of the Samurai Epic air that pervades the game make this a sure bet for any Kurosawa freak. Others should perhaps rent before buying.

Defeat the demons. Rescuing a princess.Getting swords. FUN.

Genma Onimusha rocks. Its harder than its Ps2 counter part but, its lots of fun, the only cons are that you have to use the direction pad, it wasn't originally in English and that it only has 5 hours of playing time on it. Aside from that you go through a world of continuous monsters with awesome moves and kick ... swords. A must play if your into melee battles.
